This Spring we would like to ask all our residents to get just a little more involved with your civic club. Not “the” civic club, but “your” civic club, because that’s what it is. Sure, we’ve asked people to try to attend the meetings and to join up and send in your dues, and we still hope you will do both, but we also want to get more of your feedback as well. If you have ideas on how we can better address issues affecting our community, then you have several avenues to reach us. You can call any of the board members listed on the front of this newsletter, you can e-mail us at civicclub@glembrookvalley.org, or you can send a letter to P.O. Box 262164, 77207-2164. We not only need ideas and feedback, but also PEOPLE to help carry them out. If you have an idea for a community project you would like to help work on, but maybe don’t have time to attend regular meetings, let us know and let’s see if we can’t work together to make it happen.

One of our goals this year is to try to improve the “curb appeal” of the neighborhood. This is very important because there are typically 30 to 40 homes that sell in Glenbrook Valley every year. This means there are always people driving into the neighborhood and deciding if it looks like a community they would want to live in and invest in. How our yards and homes are maintained has a huge impact on how many people answer that decision with a YES when it comes to Glenbrook Valley. One way we plan on trying to meet this important goal is by sending community standards letters to homes that need a little more attention on their appearance. We realize that some people may be upset if they get a letApril, 2012

cause that is certainly not the intent.

We just want to insure all our investments are protected along with the quality of the neighborhood. If anyone has any other ideas on ways to help encourage the community to come together and improve our neighborhood’s “curb appeal,” we are certainly open to your suggestions.

As always, if there are issues in your area, please let someone in the civic club know, and if you have not joined yet, it isn’t too late! Please send in your membership dues and let’s make 2012 a great year for Glenbrook Valley.

2) Call Thomas McWhorter, 713837-7963, Historic Officer, Planning and Development Department, City of Houston, Office of Historic Preservation for help applying for your Certificate of Appropriateness. All exterior alterations must have a C of A. These steps are a "must do" for any exterior work. Following these easy steps will save you valuable time and money!

Neatly trimmed and mowed yards; flower beds free of weeds; contrasting color; uniqueness; balance and symmetry; and overall appearance. NO ARTIFICIAL PLANTS OR FLOWERS, please!

There are 5 award areas: Northeast, Northwest, Southwest I, Southwest II, and Southeast. Each of theses areas will have one yard designated as "Yard of the Month" with a sign placed in the yard.

"Yard of the Month" judges are your neighbors who volunteer their time to make the selections. If you would like to join the team, please call your section director.

Citizens On Patrol C.O.P needs you on board the team! Many of you are the eyes and ears of our neighborhood and make regular reports to us and/or H.P.D. We need more of you to become involved and certified so that the time you spend helping each month may be counted in our total monthly patrol hours. You do not have to attend meetings, although they are helpful in sharing information.

There will be a certification class on Monday, April 23rd; 7 p.m. at Glenbrook Methodist Church, 8635 Glen Valley @ Wilmerdean.
