The present home closely resembles the original 1956 structure and was impeccably maintained by the Muscanere family. The crushed white marble roof has been replaced with a high quality composition shingle roof and the aluminum frame windows were replaced with fixed double pane glass. An addition, built in 1984 is located to the rear of the property and adjoins the eastern wing. The library fireplace in the 1984 addition is built from granite recovered from the demolished Gulgate Mall. Valuable Hurricane Information The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale measures the strength of Hurricanes. It lists the categories, sustained winds, storm surge, and type of damage to expect.

REMINDER: • Trim trees and shrubs around your property NOW! If you wait until just before the storm you only create possible projectiles for the wind to carry. • Tape does NOT prevent windows from breaking. Install permanent storm shutters or use 5/8" marine plywood, cut to fit, over your windows. • Place patio furniture, plants, yard decorations and all other outdoor objects indoors, or tie them to something stationary that should be storm proof.

Beware of Scams Always double check the authenticity of special offers! Recently an "official" looking county document was mailed advising people to protect themselves and purchase "water line insurance." In the first place the City of Houston is the supplier of water in GBV. As you enter and exit the neighborhood have you seen front yards dug up repairing water lines to homes??? NOT happening. That type of mail goes in the big green can for recycling. A senior reported receiving a call from the "government" announcing a town hall meeting regarding health care and immunizations. Then you are asked to hold for a representative. Hang up! If you are unsure about contacts like this, call the Texas Attorney General's office, your city council member, or a civic club director. Better to be safe than sorry.

NO pasa.

Report Suspicious Activity Recently a blue Toyota pick up truck was seen “touring the neighborhood.” There were two men in the truck. They were driving slowly looking at the homes. Every so often they’d stop, one would get out, go to the door of a home, when the door was answered they asked about purchasing a parked vehicle or mowing the yard. The activity was reported to HPD. The truck has been spotted in several sections of the neighborhood. Report ALL suspicious activity to the non-emergency HPD number, 713-884-3131. When the recording begins, press 1 to by-pass the recording. Whether the police make the call and find anything or not, it’s on the record that a call for service was made. Have you taken the time to sign up for the Civic Clubs e-mail list? Word of the blue truck was spread through email. The responses is how we know where the truck has been seen.
