An important Glenbrook Valley tradition is providing "Holiday Sweets" for the law enforcement officers and firemen that serve and protect our neighborhood.

Bring your "goodies," homemade or store bought on Saturday, December 10 at 10 a.m., to the "Cookie Room" at Glenbrook Methodist Church, 8635 Glen Valley @ Wilmerdean. Follow the signs. Please step up and show your appreciation! It takes a lot of "sweets" to fill 18 large trays!!

We will assemble trays and deliver them to Houston Police Department's Southeast Command on Mykawa, the Storefronts, and Helicopter station. Houston Fire Department's stations 36, 26, and 29, and the Precinct 2 Constable's office.

It takes lots of cookies to fill all the trays.

Holiday Decoration Judging will be

Our "Hall of Fame" winners are neighbors who have won a "holiday" award for 5 consecutive years. The sixth year the "Hall of Fame" sign is placed in their yard, and every year after that their homes are decorated. After these homes have been decorated for the season and before the judging is done, a sign showing that they are "Hall of Fame" winners will be placed in each yard. Honoring these homeowners for the joy they bring to the neighborhood each year will also allow other homeowners an opportunity to win.

Judges will start their drive through the Neighborhood Again this year, there will be three around 7 P.M. Be sure to have your lights categories in which you may be a on! winner. The categories are Most Happily, each year more and more neighbors take on the laborious, but joyous task of decorating their homes for the holidays, much to the delight of everyone around.

We all want to share with our friends and family the warm feelings that abound this time of the year. We remind you of the Glen-

Jueves, 17 de diciembre, 2016 Los jueces comenzaran su camino por la vecindad a eso de 7 P.M. ¡Asegúrese de tener las luces puestas!

Felizmente, cada año más y más vecinos se encarguen de la tarea laboriosa pero alegre de decorar sus casas por los días festivos, dando mucho gozo a la gente alrededor. Todos queremos compartir con nuestros amigos y familias los cálidos sentimientos que abundan esta estación del año. Les recuerdo de la tradición del Club Cívico Glenbrook Valley de premiar a la gente por todo su trabajo duro.

Nuestros ganadores “Pasillo de fama” son los vecinos que han ganado un premio de los días festivos por 5 años consecutivos. El sexto año se pone el letrero “Pasillo de fama” en su jardín, y cada año después que se decoren sus casas. Después de que estas casas han sido decoradas por la estación y antes del juzgado, un letrero mostrando que son ganadores del “Pasillo de fama” se colocará en cada jardín. Honrando a estos dueños de casa por la alegría que traen a la vecindad cada año también permitirá que otros dueños de casa tengan una oportunidad para ganar.

Broadway FYI by the Editor

Broadway was not rebuilt for the Super Bowl!! The rebuild of Broadway has been on the City of Houston's Capital Improvement Plan list since 2004. Funding was lacking. Then all kinds of impact studies had to be conducted because it was a government contract (I'll stop there.) Finally plans were drawn and refined. Toward the end of that period Houston was awarded the Super Bowl. The actual construction was pretty much on the City's pre-arranged schedule.

The landscaping is on the fast track for pre-Super Bowl completion. The Hobby Area Management District is partnered with Scenic Houston on the maintenance of the plantings and will assume full responsibility at the end of 18 months.

The HAMD is also partnered with Glenbrook Valley on the construction of our new neighborhood identity marker. Demolition of the old marker will start any day now.

Then our new marker will be installed. Lucky for us that things have worked out great for our installation.

In Memoriam On Friday, November 19, 2016 Glenbrook Valley lost a true friend to many, and a great supporter of the neighborhood. Vicky Schoppe suffered an unexpected heart attack and passed away quietly.

Vicky lived in Glenbrook Valley over 40 years. She worked tirelessly in our neighborhood to help with the many projects that the Civic Club has undertaken over the years. Vicky was a past president of the Club and also served in many other offices on our Board of Directors. She's been our faithful treasurer for the last 11 years, and had agreed to continue her service in 2017. She had an unforgettable laugh and shared it freely!
