Remember that it is illegal to discharge fireworks or to have fireworks in your possession in the City of Houston. Harris County residents should also be aware that HFD will be enforcing the fireworks ban in the Limited Purpose Annexation areas. Firework stands open June 23 and the Fire Marshals will be patrolling the areas where stands have set up near the city limits beginning the day they open. The fines are anywhere from $500 - $2000 for each individual firework! The best way to view fireworks is always at one of the public displays anyway because they always have the best fireworks and it is much safer than shooting them off around your house. Neighborhood Protection motto: “Be a neighbor, not a nuisance” Neighborhood Protection enforces City ordinances. 311 is the number to call to report violations of the ordinances.
Most Common 311 Violations found in Glenbrook Valley are: House numbers – numbers must be displayed within 18 inches of the door and be at least 3 inches tall. Heavy trash – our pick-up is the 2nd Thursday of every month. Fines are assessed daily for trash put out too early. Grass clippings – place at the curb no earlier than Wednesday evening before Thursday pick up. If you have someone mow your lawn, they are to take the clippings with them, or place them out of sight from the street. Fences – must be in good repair. No broken boards, missing boards, or fallen pieces from the fence. (Deed restrictions limit the height to 6 feet.) Cars, trucks – no storage of inoperable or junk vehicles on property. Visible storage – refuse, building materials, appliances, etc. should not be visible from the street.

Vandalism There have been many windows and windshields broken out of vehicles in Glenbrook Valley, Meadowbrook Freeway, and Gulf Freeway Oaks. There have been increased HPD patrols in the area in an effort catch the person or persons doing this. Several residents have installed surveillance cameras in an effort to protect their property. Report any incident to HPD by either calling 713-884-3131 or go to the Storefront at 8715 Broadway, 713-847-4155. DO file a report! Please report problems to Glenbrook Valley C.O.P at 713641-5351 as well. Not reporting what you consider "minor" problems doesn't help your neighbors. Any damage to property needs to be reported in order to prevent a greater damage at a later date.

It's a Privilege! Having the green recycle can is a privilege not many neighborhoods in our area have! It's great to see the majority of Glenbrook Valley residents recycling. BUT there are some residents misusing the green cans. Only recyclable items may be placed in the green cans. Any other items or use of the can will result in the City's removal of the can and the loss of the recycle opportunity for that resident. We have been advised that the Solid Waste Management Inspectors will be making random inspections of our green cans. Non recyclable materials in the cans on inspection will result in fines and removal of the can. Unfortunately, some of our residents have lost the recycle privileges and their green recycle cans have been removed. What can you do to protect our privilege of recycling? Report violations to 311 or an Officer or Director of the Civic Club.
