Our Neighborhood in the Spotlight Glenbrook Valley’s star continues to rise as even more media coverage of Houston’s largest Historic District hit the stands in April.

Houstonia Magazine, a trendy periodical that covers all sorts of interesting topics in the city, came out in their April issue with their list of 25 hottest neighborhoods for 2014. Glenbrook Valley was included in this short list.

This accolade comes on the heels of a flurry of recognition our once seemingly forgotten neighborhood has received since being designated the State’s first post WWII Historic District. This past Fall, the Houston Chronicle spotlighted Glenbrook Valley in an article “Overlooked Glenbrook Valley now attracting Attention.” Last year’s accolade from no less an authority than "This Old House" magazine was mentioned in both of the above articles, as well as yet another feature in the Chronicle, and one in on-line magazine "Culturemap.com," their third time to feature Glenbrook Valley since we started the designation process!

In addition to the more recent articles mentioned above, the Chronicle also featured Glenbrook Valley last March, in an article called “Embraceable Houston, in February of 2012, in an article “How Houston is Getting its Groovy Back,” & in September of 2011 in an article titled “Hobby Area Seeks Takeoff.”

Both local and national Historic & architecture groups have featured articles on Glenbrook Valley in their newsletters since our designation. We have also been included in two different architecture books, the AIA Architectural Guide to Houston, 3rd edition, by Stephen Fox, and Building Modern Houston by Anna Mod. Our media coverage has not been limited to just print. Stories on Glenbrook Valley have been featured on NPR radio & the TV show "Good Morning Houston" with Debra Duncan. A film crew for a TV series, "The Astronaut’s Wives Club," is even scouting locations in Glenbrook Valley for possible filming!

Glenbrook Valley is a special place, and it is increasingly being recognized as such.

"Mr. Friendly" Earlier this year a middle aged Hispanic man was knocking on doors pretending to be a neighbor in need of money to be able to keep his van or home depending on how he judged the resident that opened the door. HE'S BACK! The story is the same, but the times of the reported visits is a wider span, anytime from 11 a.m. to midnight to 2 a.m.

The guy is a con artist! Be ware of his con story. He will ask your name when you answer the door, or call you by name because one of your neighbors has unknow-

Report his "visits" to the non-emergency HPD number, 713-884-3131 (when the automessage begins press "1" to go straight to dispatch.) An officer will come to your home if you request it, otherwise they will probably do a drive by. Multiple reports will increase the number of patrols in our neighborhood.
