The Civic Club Board voted to make our meetings "community information" gatherings. Neighborhood safety and protection is the area our May meeting will focus on. The Glenbrook Valley Citizens On Patrol and the Civic Club will hold a joint meeting. These are two separate organizational groups, but have the same goal - the welfare of Glenbrook Valley.

Our guests this month will be representatives from the Houston Police Department. They will discuss gangs, the meaning or non-meaning of the graffiti that is increasing in and around the neighborhood; essential information when reporting suspicious activity; and the importance of neighbors watching out for neighbors.

Property Rights What is "property rights?" Is it the self centered right to do whatever one wants with ones property regardless of the adverse effect on the value and visual impact of the community? Is it good government to support that mentality? If so, why do City Ordinances exist governing the height of grass or prohibiting the right to park a car in the yard? It is to mitigate the adverse effect such actions will have on the value and appearance of the community.

In case we ever get rain, the following tips will reduce the mosquitoes near your home and will reduce the possibility of your family contacting diseases carried and spread by mosquitoes.

• Reduce mosquito breeding areas by eliminating standing waste water outdoors.

1.Remove containers which hold water. Flower pots, tires, broad magnolia leaves, etc. should be drained frequently.

2.Clean bird baths often.

3. Keep gutters free from debris and standing water.

4. Move drain hoses from air-conditioning units frequently to reduce standing water.
