Houston Botanic Garden A positive for our part of town! The Houston Botanic Garden will be built on the Glenbrook Golf Course site. On January 15 the Houston City Council unanimously granted the Garden a lease on the property. The approval of the lease opened the way for the Garden to begin fund raising and a search for a master planner. The widely acclaimed international urban design and landscape architecture firm, West 8, was chosen as the master planners for the Houston Garden from a nationwide search. They are based in Rotterdam, Netherlands and New You City.

Neighborhoods USA Tour The City of Houston is hosting the Neighborhoods USA (NUSA) convention, May 20 - 23. Neighborhoods, USA is a national non-profit organization committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations. NUSA encourages networking and information-sharing to facilitate the development of partnerships among neighborhood organizations, government and the private sector for the ultimate goal of strengthening every neighborhood. The Friday, May 22, afternoon and evening activity is a tour of various neighborhoods in the City. Sixteen neighborhoods were selected out of many applications submitted to be toured. Glenbrook Valley's "Mid-Century Rules" application was accepted. So don't be surprised to see the bus touring between about 4:30 and 6 p.m.! The Hobby District is cosponsoring the tour that will conclude at the 1940's Air Terminal Museum for dinner.

Minimum Lot Size Some of our neighbors have recently successfully protected their sections from incompatible residential development that would increase density. In simple terms, developers can't come in to the neighborhood and divide the lots to build multiple or multi-family homes. Only sections 1, 2, and 5 didn't have minimum lot size covered in their deed restrictions. All of the other 10 sections are protected. The City required 55% of the property owners support the designation. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Section 5 Director, Larry Rucker, the Glenbrook Valley designation was supported by 64% of the property owners.
