SKIN SAVIOUR In September Aesop launched the new Seeking Silence Facial Hydrator lotion (60ml, €47), designed to help ease types of irritation and discomfort typically linked to skin reactivity, such as redness, flaking, itching or burning. Selected for their soothing and anti-redness properties, green microalgae and an extract from dormant daffodil bulbs form the basis of this formula. This is the first of the brand’s products to feature the two ingredients, and they are paired with calming ginger root extract and bisabolol, as well as the moisturising humectants saccharide isomerate and squalane. The lightweight lotion has a non-greasy finish and can be used on a daily basis. grc

SENSE OF STYLE For autumn/winter 2019/20 Aigner presents its Enlightenment collection, which it states is inspired by a ‘liberation from outdated ideas and a turn towards progress.’ One of the brand’s most popular bags, the Cybill returns in a range of new designs, including the Cybill Tartan, in Dark Mauve or Deep Blue check, and the Cybill Perla, embellished with screws and pearls. Other highlights this season include the introduction of the minimalist Dea bag (pictured), available in two sizes, and the new Epona series, featuring pieces finished with a golden horse head closure. The brand worked with 98-year-old style icon Iris Apfel to present the beautiful designs for its campaign. grc Aigner, Alter Markt 7, 5020 Salzburg, +43 (0)662 849010, aignermunich.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 39

CLEAR COMPLEXION Dr Hauschka recently introduced two new products for skin prone to blemishes. As well as the new Coverstick, designed to conceal and clear spots, the brand has introduced the pictured Clarifying Day Oil in a new size (18ml, €18.50) and updated the packaging to recyclable glass. The formulation helps to reduce the skin’s oil production, appease inflammation and diminish blemishes. Like all of Dr Hauschka’s skincare products, this oil is created using plants with medicinal properties. The German brand launched its skincare range in 1967, when founder Rudolf Hauschka teamed up with Austrian-born Elisabeth Sigmund, a pioneering cosmetologist who focused on natural ingredients and treatment methods. Over 50 years later, the brand continues to lead the way in natural beauty. grc Martin Reformstark, Museumstrasse 22, 6020 Innsbruck, +43 (0)512 5801 0029, drhauschka.com

has earned cult status among city-dwellers as well as avid skiers. ‘Classic Moncler styles sell incredibly well as our customers look to the brand for excellent quality, fit, warmth and style,’ says Chelsea Power, senior buyer at luxury ecommerce site Matchesfashion.com. ‘It’s an iconic, heritage label and its technical credentials are as revered as its sleek design aesthetic. Bogner, too, has always created stylish pieces. Labels like these allow people to really express their fashion identity on the slopes.’ Offering a luxury urban aesthetic, German fashion brand Bogner features sub-brands and diffusion lines across outerwear, activewear and skiwear. ustria has some of the world’s finest ski resorts and is famous for its picturesque alpine runs and glühweinfuelled après-ski. As with many international ski destinations, the slopes often double as winter catwalks. Mountain sports create the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your style – whether you’re a sophisticated skier or prefer snowboarding, with its streetwearinspired edge – and for brands to demonstrate their performance wear expertise. Activewear has expanded from the realm of exercise to become part of our everyday wardrobes, and is one of the biggest evolutions in 21st-century fashion. Functionality and performance are increasingly significant for consumers, and aesthetics have become a key priority when shopping for performancewear or ski gear. It’s no surprise, therefore, that designers are focusing on technical fabrics, clever details and fuss-free silhouettes in ski apparel to combine practicality and style. Colmar was one of the first brands to gain a solid reputation for functional fashion when it launched in Italy in 1923, and its pioneering approach to performance meant it was chosen to dress the 1952 Italian Olympic ski team. It remains one of a handful of brands that focuses collections primarily on the sport. ‘Our roots are firmly cemented in functionality and have been since we established the early styles of ski and performance wear, many of which are still favoured today,’ says CEO Giulio Colombo. ‘New fabric technology is developed every season and we embrace these changes to enhance our garments.’ And Colombo appreciates the need for style, too. ‘When it comes to activewear, looking good is essential,’ he says. ‘Fashion is so inspired by sport and that makes activewear an ubiquitous part of our wardrobes today. Its versatility means it’s no longer reserved for working out but can be worn for so many other situations as well. That, plus the durability of the fabrics, means people can get a lot of use out of these pieces.’ Balancing form and function is something that Moncler also does exceptionally well. Founded in the French mountain village of Monestier-de-Clermont in the early 1950s, it

beautifully combines fashion and function, and is so popular that Bogners is used as a generic term for ski trousers in Germany and other European resorts. Launched in 1953, heritage label Sportalm draws inspiration from its Austrian roots to create authentic, trusted skiwear with functionality at its core. It started to expand into ready-to-wear in the early 2000s with the addition of a sportswear-inspired fashion line, sourcing all technical fabrics locally and remaining true to its Made in Austria standard. Fans of the brand can now create an entire seasonal wardrobe from Sportalm’s collections, with options spanning everything from dresses and denim to yoga attire. For those looking to bolster their equipment and accessories collections, heritage brands such as Atomic and Fischer remain enduring favourites. Atomic’s collections are designed with safety in mind and feature protective wear such as goggles and helmets, while Fischer draws on its Above (from left): Bogner; Moncler, both autumn/winter 2019/20

extensive expertise in technology to enhance its products, designing pieces for different styles of ski activity, including off-piste and racing. Whatever your preference, there are Fischer boots, bags and pairs of skis to suit. Over the past few decades skiwear has become increasingly popular with fashionfocused labels, making the crossover from the slopes to the street. From Fendi and Gucci to more affordable high-street retailers, brands are harnessing the appeal of clothing that will look and act the part for winter. Moncler, Colmar and Bogner are among the brands at the forefront of the trend, and these trusted labels have expertly mastered the art of pairing style with function to create truly unique, practical looks. There’s every chance that activewear will move further into our everyday edits with each passing season, so canny customers would be wise to invest now and make these pieces the foundation of an enduringly stylish, multipurpose wardrobe – this is fashion designed to withstand the toughest elements, after all

SUSANNE KAUFMANN Susanne Kaufmann is a standardbearer for the clean beauty movement, and the brand’s kits would make an ideal gift for a loved one or the perfect pampering souvenir of your trip to Austria. We recommend investing in the recently launched Detox and Holistic Beauty kits, which offer a selection of travel-sized items to revitalise the body, mind and complexion. The Detox kit contains miniatures of the Moisturizing Mask and Detox Oil Scrub, while the Holistic Beauty kit features the brand’s famed Cleansing Gel and Rose Water Mist. Designed to restore inner balance, these kits will provide a luxury self care ritual like no other. sm Stattgarten, Kettenbrückengasse 14, 1040 Vienna, +43 (0)1 236 3593, stattgarten.wien

BURBERRY Introduced in Burberry’s spring/summer 2019 collection, the TB bag, with its boxy silhouette, is making waves. This season chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci has enhanced the style with more timeless, practical and chic versions. Options include the medium-sized buttery-soft caramel leather offering, ideal for pairing with a well-tailored trouser suit for the day; the black quilted monogrammed envelope clutch, perfect for a night of cocktails and dancing; or the small belted version for those who like to go hands-free. Whatever your preferred style, these stunning pieces are adorned with the iconic TB hardware and showcase an understated aesthetic that’s perfect for the modern woman. ra Burberry, Kohlmarkt 2, 1010 Vienna, +43 (0)1 532 2820, burberry.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 34

FREY WILLE With the increasing popularity of limited-edition products and personalisation, customisable capsule collections are now staples in the fashion industry. Founded in 1951, Frey Wille is embracing the trend with its latest pearl drop earrings, designed to be added to styles in its Cabochon range. Paying homage to famous artists and their work, the Cabochon collection is handmade in Vienna, and the creation of these miniature works of art involves up to 100 different steps. Worn on their own, these bright pops of colour are perfect for daytime and the office, while, when the sun goes down, you can add an elegant touch to any outfit by transforming these artistic pieces into pearl drop pendant earrings. fm Frey Wille, Universitätsplatz 10, 5020 Salzburg, +43 (0)662 847869, frey-wille.com FOR MAP GO TO PAGE 40

KUNSTHAUSCAFÉ Located in the city’s Kunsthaus Graz modern art museum, Kunsthauscafé is a brilliant option for those who love a side order of delicious food with their art. Offering Instagrammable brunch, lunch and dinner options, accompanied by a coffee or gin and tonic, this is one of the best spots in the city to watch the world go by from its location on the banks of the river Mur. The interior has an industrial vibe that complements the electro beats played in the latter part of the day. Come for a burger and stay for a boogie. ra Kunsthauscafé, Südtirolerplatz 2, 8020 Graz, +43 (0)316 714957, kunsthaucafe.co.at

LUDWIG REITER If you’ve come to Austria and not packed winter-ready footwear, Ludwig Reiter offers arguably the most stylish and functional winter boots on the market. The pictured Maronibraterin boots are cosy, comfortable, robust and – most importantly – waterrepellent, ideal for unexpected rain or snow. The sumptuous brown leather with oatmeal felt exterior embodies practical luxury, and the shearling lining is an added layer of warmth for those who feel the cold. rre Ludwig Reiter, Sackstrasse 12, 8010 Graz, +43 (0)316 825416, ludwig-reiter.com

РУССКИЙ ПЕРЕВОД 26: STYLE ON THE SLOPES СТИЛЬНЫЕ КАНИКУЛЫ
