RHAPSODY Award-winning creative media production agency Rhapsody created this season’s cover illustration for SHOP Austria. The image depicts a man at his dressing table, which holds a collection of books – designed to represent a row of colourful houses in the city of Innsbruck – as well as cufflinks, a clock and aftershave emblazoned with the Austrian flag. The wallpaper is a subtle nod to the tiled roof of St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Discover SHOP Austria and our other editions at issuu.com/globalblue.

SOUND BITE In March 2020, Montblanc introduced the new wireless, over-ear MB 01 headphones (€590). Designed with travel in mind, the brand’s first smart headphones not only place a strong focus on quality sound but also on ease and functionality. They are foldable, feature active noise-cancelling technology and have Google Assistant integration for voice-activated device control and commands. An ergonomic design is paired with a sophisticated look thanks to a combination of leather and metal details: choose from black leather and chrome metal, brown leather and gold-coloured metal or light grey leather with polished metal. Having started out as a manufacturer of luxury writing instruments, Montblanc’s offering has grown to encompass watches, leather goods, tech products and accessories – this latest addition is the perfect complement to its portfolio. LIFESTYLE CHOICES Porsche Design is a leading innovator and its offering spans fashion, timepieces, eyewear, electronics and more. Highlights include an ongoing sportswear collaboration with Puma (pictured) and the brand’s partnership with Elan Skis. The brand has close ties with Austria, as the late Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the legendary founder of Porsche Design, spent part of his childhood in the country and later returned to set up the Porsche Design Studio in the town of Zell am See. TIMELESS TIMEPIECE This year Chopard presents two new iterations of its Happy Sport watch. Featuring its signature dancing diamonds, the model has become a watchmaking classic since it was introduced in 1993. In these latest versions, diamonds are held in place using a prong setting, allowing more light to penetrate the stones and resulting in a brighter, more radiant effect. This setting is also used on the bezel and hour-markers, while the case features a pavé of brilliant-cut diamonds. The mother-of-pearl dial is paired with a case made from ethical gold – choose from white (pictured, price on request) or rose gold options – for an elegant timepiece that perfectly captures the technical prowess and playful spirit of Chopard’s Happy Sport. rom organic cosmetic shops to historic boutique pharmacies and beauty spas offering lifestyle-focused treatments, the simple, practical approach of Austria’s foremost beauty brands is more relevant than ever to the discerning modern consumer. The country’s beauty industry highlights a refreshing shift towards an ethos of less is more – and away from the aggressive marketing of some mainstream labels, which promote hype-fuelled products and promise miracles in a jar. Austrian products are made using quality ingredients that treat and nourish the skin from within – and the results speak for themselves. The new Hotel Post Bezau by Susanne Kaufmann in the west of Austria is the perfect place to recharge body and soul. Kaufmann, the fifth generation of her family to own and
operate the business, relaunched it in 2019 to offer tailored holistic retreats, and it is certainly not your average health spa. Kaufmann describes it as a ‘retreat where everything is included: the best individual sports therapy with our trainer, high-protein food with local and seasonal products, and individual treatments where lymphatic and facial massages are included.’ The hotel aims to ensure visitors leave feeling exhilarated and ready to incorporate these new lifestyle experiences into their daily routine, whether it’s small steps to fitness at home or a more sustainable approach to food as a whole. ‘In Austria, we see beauty wholeheartedly,’ says Kaufmann. ‘This means if you stay healthy, you feel better and look better. We have very deep roots in a sustainable
and holistic lifestyle, and fitness has a big influence within this.’ Kaufmann’s acclaimed eponymous skincare and bodycare line, founded in 2003, demonstrates the same holistic approach as the hotel. It includes products themed around exercise, such as Muscle Release Oil and Leg and Vein Cooling Spray to revive tired feet and limbs post-workout. ‘People understand the importance of sport more and more, not only for being fit both mentally and physically, but also for the balance of your hormones and your productivity,’ Kaufmann says. Natural hairdresser Arthur Frank, in Vienna’s historic old town area, is a must-visit destination for avid beauty fans. Focusing on the idea of beauty as a personal and holistic concept that goes beyond outward appearances, it uses only vegetable and food-based dyes to colour hair. Its range of chemical-free hair care products offers the perfect gentle and natural alternative to some harsher options, particularly for those with sensitive skin. As well as appointments for haircuts, styling and beauty treatments, the store showcases cosmetics and essential oils from organic Austrian brand
Styx, natural aromatherapy highlights from Primavera, organic toothpaste label Sante and Olivia Garden’s collection of sustainably produced hair brushes. With plant-based hair colour from Logona also on offer, Arthur Frank has all your natural beauty needs covered. Founded in 1988, the store is located on the beautiful cobbled street of Salvatorgasse. In Landstrasse, the city’s third district, handmade soap manufacturer Wiener Seife is the ideal location for beauty connoisseurs who appreciate traditional craftsmanship. Following an old Viennese recipe, each soap is made using a cold-stirring process and based on coconut oil with no added nasties – just a delightful combination of plant extracts, natural oils and fragrance essences. With over 70 different varieties on offer, including chocolate, honey and alpine rose, there’s a scent to suit everyone, and each bar is individually packaged in recyclable paper. Whether you are looking for a new set of soaps for your sink, some bath treats for a loved one, or gifts to bring home from your travels, this is the ideal place to stock up on souvenirs before your flight.

the certified natural, organic skincare brand embodies the pioneering spirit of the country’s contemporary skincare industry. Its famous Rose Day Cream was developed in 1967 and is still made to the same formula today. The range now also includes Rose Day Cream Light, which offers the same protective and fortifying properties of the original in a lightweight formulation. Capturing the pure essence of the rose to nourish and soothe skin, it’s no wonder these products have attracted a cult following and feature in bathroom cabinets of beauty fans around the world. From a skincare and bodycare range that helps you recover from your workout to natural hair care products and a handmade soap manufacturer with historic roots, Austria is rapidly becoming simply the best place to find effective, practical natural beauty products that are a genuine pleasure to use

Vienna-based skincare brand Lederhaas is a key name to know and certainly worth investing in. The clean beauty label is renowned for sourcing the finest fair-trade ingredients and uses only natural oils. From hand and body washes to body scrubs, soaps and the most exquisite perfumes, the brand offers a premium range of organic products and fragrances that evoke pure, fresh Austrian mountain air. The brand’s Rock Salt Edition Peeling Soap exfoliator is infused with red clay and rock salt from Altaussee, which gently buffs the skin, removes impurities, improves circulation and combats dullness after application – a true hero product. No round-up of Austrian beauty brands would be complete without mentioning Dr Hauschka. Although the award-winning label is based in Germany, its eponymous founder, Rudolf Hauschka, was Austrian and

LUDWIG REITER For spring/summer 2020, heritage Austrian leather brand Ludwig Reiter looks to the tropics for inspiration, specifically the plants and architecture at one of Vienna’s most famous buildings, the beautiful Palmenhaus. Located in the city’s Schönbrunner Schlosspark gardens, the art nouveau greenhouse is home to a range of colourful and exotic flora, and serves as the perfect backdrop for the brand’s new-season campaign for its luxury leather goods. Featuring classic loafers and brogues in timeless shades of brown, the collection is accented with pops of bright orange and aquamarine, and is an excellent way to add a vibrant touch to any summer ensemble. TUMI Continuing Tumi’s commitment to sustainability, the Merge line for spring/summer 2020 is the brand’s first travel range made using recycled materials. Pieces are available in classic black or deep blue, while the silver colourway with neon yellow accents is a striking alternative if you’re looking to stand out in the first class lounge. The exterior of the cases is made from post-industrial recycled nylon and the interiors are created using post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. This season, Tumi also offers the Turin collection, encompassing backpacks and a briefcase in striking black croc-effect leather. The Alpha 3 line offers everything from carry-ons and four-wheeled cases to toiletry bags and even a pouch for your tech cables. Whether your next trip is a city break or long-haul adventure, Tumi offers something for everyone. FM

PAUL & SHARK Paul & Shark’s truly unique flagship store is located inside Vienna’s famous Palais Bartolotti-Partenfeld, built in the 18th century. There are nods to boating life throughout this very Instagrammable store, which stocks Paul & Shark’s stylish womenswear, menswear and yachting apparel. The brand’s latest collection features a fluorescent colour palette – the perfect way to add a pop of colour to your sailing attire. The store also offers customers the option to personalise any purchases, and you can create a one-of-a-kind piece at the store’s embroidery corner.
