TIME FOR T The T motif has featured in Tiffany’s jewellery designs since the 1980s. In April this year, Tiffany unveiled its latest iteration of the T collection, the new Tiffany T1, designed by chief artistic officer Reed Krakoff. The collection will be launched in a series of drops throughout the year and includes nine 18-carat rose gold designs as well as 18carat yellow and white gold pieces. Diamonds bring an added element of refinement to the Tiffany T1 collection, which is defined by a clean, modern look and is a worthy celebration of the brand’s renowned emblem. Cutting-edge fragrance brand Juliette Has a Gun recently introduced its Not a Collection cosmetics line, which builds on the brand’s Not a Perfume – first introduced 10 years ago, the molecular fragrance is made solely from the synthetic ambergris scent cetalox. DARIAL’S DEBUT In autumn 2019, Barcelona welcomed new multidisciplinary store Darial. Located in a 19th-century building, the store consists of a series of spacious and elegant rooms. As well as exploring menswear, womenswear and accessories from almost 100 brands, visitors can also enjoy a gallery, which hosts temporary exhibitions and collaborations, a book store and restaurant. For spring/summer 2020, Manolo Blahnik has updated its classic Lurum style (pictured, €1,175). Taking inspiration from Paris, the prestigious brand reinvents the backless heel in sorbet-yellow silk brocade – the perfect background for the blue floral motifs – while the model’s signature crystal embellishments add a sparkling finishing touch. chieving the panache synonymous with Spanish style has never been easier, thanks to the rise of the country’s super-chic brands, which occupy a unique position between high-street and high-end fashion. Key Spanish names offer an affordable premium aesthetic, from Barcelona-based cool-girl label Paloma Wool, renowned for art-inspired knitwear, unique silhouettes and fearless colour-blocking (dark turquoise and purple have never looked so good) to Cortefiel, whose modern women’s workwear pieces are almost too good to be true. Now is the time to update your new-season wardrobe with a luxury edge, on a fast-fashion budget. Inditex-owned Uterqüe showcases an accessible way to emulate this season’s key catwalk trends of clashing colours and 1970s prints – seen across zigzag knitted vests and crochet floral dresses at

Altuzarra and Louis Vuitton during Paris Fashion Week. The label’s own take on the looks include vibrant printed knitwear and shimmering Lurex two-pieces. Stablemate Massimo Dutti speaks to high-end design through its choice of fabrics. Textiles such as sheepskin leather, 100% cashmere and suede exude a chic, pared-back style that would look at home on the front row of any fashion show. Bimba y Lola, founded in 2005 by siblings María and Uxía Dominguez, is renowned for its low-key luxury aesthetic. For spring/summer 2020, the youthful brand’s This Is Hot collection includes multicoloured striped trousers, sequinned accessories and pleated ombré skirts in green and aquamarine shades that are reminiscent of the sea. Aquamarine is a key theme this season and featured in many Spanish brands’ collections. Pedro 38

del Hierro’s opulent collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid showcased pieces inspired by florals and the Spanish springtime. Glistening turquoise jumpsuits complemented billowing suits that were belted at the waist, and silk dresses, knotted on one shoulder, which cascaded to the floor in waves. Tailoring, an enduring trend, is another area in which this brand excels. ‘Spring/summer 2020 saw an appreciation for suiting,’ says Jessie Gilder, wholesale account manager at brand agency RainbowWave, which works with cutting-edge emerging designers and established global brands such as Bella Freud and Ancient Greek Sandals. ‘Suiting is typically associated with luxury tailoring, and a tailored suit comes with a luxury Above (from left): Pedro del Hierro; Bimba y Lola; Cortefiel, all spring/summer 2020
price tag.’ Pedro del Hierro delivers the ultimate gift for fans of this sophisticated style of dressing: individual items that look high-end but cost significantly less, with prices around the €100 mark. ‘High-street brands are becoming more and more advanced with their cuts and fabrics, and can sometimes be completely unrecognisable as high street,’ says Gilder, noting that the right cut, in particular, can help to elevate the appearance of any piece. ‘The cut of a blazer is often more desirable than the quality of the fabric or the trims,’ she explains. This attention to detail is apparent throughout Cortefiel’s spring/summer 2020 collection. A floral double-breasted, two-toned coat suggests a price point far beyond its actual price tag, while a belted brown and white polka-dot maxi shirtdress emulates the sleek silhouettes of labels such as Celine and Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton. Expertise in pairing a tasteful and fresh colour palette with strong, well-cut silhouettes also

enhances the overall sense of luxury. Cortefiel’s heritage and craftsmanship can be seen in every aspect of its clothing. The brand, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, originally created men’s suits and has maintained its founding principles of elegance, quality, comfort and functionality across its contemporary menswear and womenswear collections. With fans including model Helene Svedin and her husband, the former Real Madrid footballer Luís Figo, Cortefiel has earned a place in the wardrobes of stylish women and men around the world. Launched in 2014, Paloma Wool quickly established itself as a key label for the Instagram set. Worn by influencer Camille Charrière, make-up artist Stella von Senger and TV personality Laura Jackson, Paloma Wool describes itself as a project ‘about the space or ideas that are created around the act of getting dressed.’ The brand’s collections have a timeless, artistic and minimalist aesthetic. Pieces are created in collaboration with
different artists using a variety of fabrics, from denim to linen and silk. Price points vary, from €69 for a wrap top to €279 for a pair of platform leather boots, placing it firmly at the more wallet-friendly end of the fashion spectrum. From exquisite suits to suede coats and silk dresses, these affordable luxury brands are offering the obtainable chic aesthetic that today’s contemporary audience demands. With many people looking to emulate the style of their favourite social media fashion account, the leading Spanish proponents of affordable luxury are real gamechangers – now everyone can channel their favourite Instagram trend without breaking the bank.
