The Our Towne Spotlight Shines on... KJ’s Gymnastics
Karen Leggett, owner of KJ’s Gymnastics, is proud to be celebrating her 16th year of success as another family owned & operated business here in Our Towne. Karen, her husband, and two sons run the 8,000 square foot facility that houses the newest progressive skill equipment available. Located at 3143 Route 9 in Valatie, the facility also has another 4,000 square feet for private parties. This year marks Karen's 37th year of teaching gymnastics! How did this journey begin? It is yet another story about a person creating a business and career doing something they always enjoyed... Karen was a competitive gymnast at Chatham High School, taught at Yury’s School of Gymnastics for 21 years and then started KJ’s Gymnastics. She has taught gymnastics to preschoolers and adults for the past 36 years, coaching Regional and State Champions. Karen has attended many National and Regional training seminars on all aspects in this field. KJ's does not have a competitive team; rather they focus on personal, individual goals and challenging each student without the pressure that competition brings. Karen stresses that "gymnastics is not just about learning a cartwheel. We build confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination and are dedicated to improving our students athletic and mental abilities." Students use the trampolines, beams, bars, vault, rings and huge foam pit to develop skills. Warrior Fitness obstacle courses are the newest and most popular addition to our program and Birthday Parties this year. All of the programs at KJ's Gymnastics are developed to challenge all students at every skill level. Having fun while developing coordination, strength, flexibility, courage, determination and focus are what KJ's is offering your child.
In addition to the physical and athletic development, gymnastics helps with brain development, social skills, math & writing skills. For the toddler and preschool child, the crawling, rolling & jumping done in gymnastics improves and helps develop the skills your child needs to be successful in life. A gymnastics base can improve any sport whether it is your back hand in tennis, your jump shot in basketball or throwing and catching the ball in baseball/softball, to name a few. Dancers also find that gymnastics help them with flexibility, coordination and balance. KJ’s offers gymnastics classes for children 18 months old through adults. They offer open enrollment, so your child can take classes at any point in the year. In addition, they host fun children’s birthday parties, field trips, classes for Home Schooled students, private lessons and many camps during the summer and school breaks. You don't have to be a current student to participate in the "open workouts" over school breaks or in the summer. If you register for Summer Camp 2016 by April 30th, you will receive a free KJ's Gymnastics Tie-Dyed T -Shirt. For parents who need a break, each month KJ's holds a "Parents Night Out." Why not go to dinner or see a movie while they supervise and feed the kids? Also, for 7th grade students & up is Pole Vaulting instruction and drills taught by Karen’s son, Brian Leggett. The 2009 MAAC Indoor Pole Vault Champion, will help any track athlete wanting to improve their technique or learn to pole vault. Follow KJ's Gymnastics on Facebook for program updates and information. For more information please e-mail us at kjsgymnastics@gmail.com or call 518-758-2554. http://www.kjsgymnastics.com

Nassau Pharmacy Serving Our Towne for over 100 Years Nassau Pharmacy is a small family owned & operated business that has been serving the community for over 100 years. Cathy Grossman has been practicing pharmacy for over 30 years in both hospital and retail settings. It was one year ago that Cathy moved her successful pharmacy to a much larger and modern location at 3541 Route 20, just before the Village of Nassau. With a new computer system and all of the technology that the large, retail pharmacies have, you can be confident that you will receive the same products with personalized service. What sets Nassau Pharmacy apart from the large chain pharmacies is the staff and service. You are not a number. "Our customers are like family. We want to know you and your family. Your overall health and wellness are our top priority." Doctors can electronically prescribe your medications, fax or even call. During regular business hours, they even answer the phones and assist you in getting your prescriptions as quickly as possible. You won't be put into an automated system and have to leave a message when the pharmacy is open for business. In speaking with Cathy about the success and growth of the pharmacy, I learned drug prices are dictated by Insurance Companies. Their pricing is like any other large, retail store. So why not support a family owned and operated business if you are paying the same price? In addition to the modern pharmacy, the retail store is stocked with your health & wellness items. A large selection of orthopedic items, walkers, braces, compression stockings and bandages are in stock for your convenience. You can pick up a 99 cent greeting card, snack, vitamins and even a gift for someone special. It is the small town pharmacy you might remember from long ago. Cathy also offers Vet Compounding for your pet medicines. They can formulate your pet's medicines into a form that they will take. Check out the coupon in their Our Towne ad and save some money! Nassau Pharmacy is open 6 days a week. Monday-Friday from 9-6 & Saturday from 9-4. Emergency service is available 24/7. Call 518-766-2707 with any questions or to transfer your prescriptions today. Please shop local where your business is greatly appreciated.

Hindsight is 20/20 By Daryl Bart You know that feeling you get when the flashing lights suddenly appear in the rear view mirror. Even when I’ve nothing wrong, I instantly get sweaty palms & racing heart. I hold my breath, slow the car down....and PHEW, they pass on by. Well, usually, but not always. The very first time I got pulled over, I was on the Taconic. It was a beautiful summer day and I was singing along to the Crosby Stills & Nash cassette tape. I passed the cop car parked in the median as I came over the hill and with no fanfare, he literally pointed at me to pull over. So I did. I guess the trembling hands and teary eyes must have tugged at his heart strings. He sent me off with a warning to drive home waaaay slower. Yay Me! A few years later, I once again I found myself face to face with a man in blue. My last experience was pretty positive, this one, not so much. He wasn’t friendly, wasn’t moved by my nervousness and he was definitely writing me a ticket. He insisted I went thru a red light. I was 100 % certain that I didn’t. So like any self righteous 20-something, I took that ticket and marched right down to traffic court on the appointed date. I waited and waited and waited for my turn for justice. When my number was called, the officer that wrote the ticket wasn’t there. I jumped up and insisted “Your Honor, I move to dismiss this case on grounds that you’ve failed to prosecute me”. (Yes, I said that, Yes, I watched a lot of “Ally Mc Beal” in those days and Yes, I had practiced for this exact scenario). The judge laughed at my soliloquy and promptly sent me on my way. Coppers 0 Daryl 2. Another decade passed by before I encountered the rearview lights again. I was single mindedly heading back from NYC with the family via the Thruway. Joe either had food poisoning or a stomach bug. Either way, it wasn’t pleasant. The hubby was green and groaning, the kids were overtired and screaming, so the lights behind me came as a BIG surprise. Being pulled over turned out to be a blessing for Joe, allowing him to make visit the guard rail, which was way better than a bag in the car. With 100 miles to go. I thanked the trooper for my ticket and he sent me on my way. Score Blue 1 Daryl 2 A few year later, and closer to home, teary eyes worked some magic, although they weren’t my waterworks. As the officer approached, I kinda let it slip to a 5 year old Nathan ”Don’t Cry, but there's a good chance they’re taking Mommy to Jail” and just accidentally opened Nathan’s window. He didn’t disappoint. He promptly started yelling, “Don’t take my mommy to jail!!!”. I know, shameless, but truthfully I didn’t care at the moment. We were on our way to the airport and really needed to keep going. Score: Cops still1 Daryl 3 It’s been awhile since I’ve exchanged my license and registration information with the police, but life these days is pretty tame and I’ll take that anyday over the alternative. Plus the odds have been in my favor for decades. So, it came as a huge surprise to see a local police officer hanging out on the road I’ve taken to work for the last 15 years. I hesitated on the brakes, but you know when it’s just too late. Light Camera Action. The jury is out on the ultimate outcome of this one, but I can assure you my sweaty palms and racing heartbeat response is still in good working order. The score is not even yet I’m hoping to stay in the lead. Joe says just run on time and slow down. That’s easy for him to say. Better Netflix some LA Law & Ally McBeal to bone up on traffic court etiquette. Wish me luck. dcbart1@gmail.com

The East Greenbush YMCA, a branch of the Capital District YMCA, is a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization. The Y’s mission is to provide programs that promote Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility to the community. The YMCA Annual Campaign, going on now, raises money that stays in OUR Greenbush YMCA. How does our community benefit from the money raised? Individual YMCA memberships, water safety classes, health care programs, camp, and childcare services all strengthen our community. These fundraising efforts are critical for the YMCA’s mission, and without donations they cannot support the families who need their services. The annual campaign provides opportunity to individuals and families who may not have the means to find quality childcare or healthy living services and programs. Last year over $165,000 was given back to the East Greenbush branch. These services provide people with the positive, emotional, and environmental support to lead a healthy life. This year the local Greenbush branch has a goal to raise $85,000. From October to November, dedicated YMCA staff and volunteers pledged their donations for the annual campaign, and now the YMCA is asking the community to join in. The YMCA has raised $40,000 towards the $85,000 goal, and you can help by donating too. “We know there is a need much greater than $85,000. Our goal is to get to that level and beyond so we can serve more people. The challenge is getting there,” said Shannon Romanowski, Executive Director at the East Greenbush YMCA. If every YMCA member made a donation the YMCA would exceed its goal. Last year the Greenbush Y provided over $165,000 in support to individuals and families in the Greenbush YMCA service area. Your neighbors, friends, or family members may be eligible to receive financial support. The money raised also supports individuals battling chronic or life threatening illnesses through the Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery and Circle of Champs programs. Cancer survivors gain strength and support in the LIVEStrong program, while dollars raised make sure no one is turned away for their inability to pay. The annual campaign’s overall mission is to have the donations support those in need in our community. We can all be involved and make a difference by supporting the YMCA. To support the community members who need the YMCA services to lead a happy and healthy life, annual campaign donations are accepted until March 30th. Donations may be submitted at www.SupportTheY.org. Donations are also accepted at the East Greenbush YMCA located at 20 Community Way East Greenbush, NY 12061. The money donated will make a positive impact in your community.

Understanding Home Inspections By Cathy Graziano There’s no denying that purchasing a home is one of the biggest thrills of your life, but it can also quickly become overwhelming. While the home you choose may appear to be the perfect house, hiding underneath the dream could be serious unknown defects that can make your investment a costly one. Enter the home inspector. A home inspector performs a physical inspection of the structure and systems of your prospective home. The home inspection is an objective visual examination of the physical structure and systems of a home, from roof to foundation. The inspection will determine not only the condition of the home, but also help foresee any immediate unnecessary additional cost that may go unnoticed bythe untrained eye. Home inspections start at around $300 depending on the size of the home, its age and overall condition. Additional items such as Radon or well & septic tests will be an additional charge.

It’s money well spent if you’re serious about that particular property. According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, the standard home inspector’s report will cover the condition of the home’s heating system; central air conditioning system (temperature permitting); interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement and structural components. Compare a home inspection to getting a physical from your doctor. When problems or symptoms of problems are found, the inspector may recommend further evaluation or remedies. A home inspection summarizesthe condition of a property, points out the need for major repairs and identifies areas that may need attention in the near future.”The inspection will show the positive and negative aspects of a home, as well as the maintenance that will be necessary to keep it in good shape. After an inspection, both parties have a much clearer understanding of the value and needs of the property. A home in good working order may have been worth $350,000, but if $20,000 of work needs to be done to replace rotted wood, the heating system or bad plumbing, the price should drop. Before any sale is complete, you will need an inspection to look over the good, the bad and the ugly of what your new home really offers. Remember, even if a house needs repairs or has hidden problems, it should not always be the catalyst for getting out of a sale. No house is perfect and as long as you know ahead of time what needs to be done and can possibly, change the purchase price based on the information. The home inspection will give you a great starter list of what needs to be done to really make moving in that much easier. Fred's Discount Tire & Auto:
Carrying on the Legacy of 320 Columbia Turnpike What Fred Sliney wants you to know about his new family owned and operated business in Rensselaer is that he brings over 30 years of experience, 8 years of education and an old school work ethic. He wants to help people in the community and develop long term relationships. I would guess that he is probably the most formally educated mechanic in Our Towne. Carrying on a local legacy at 320 Columbia Turnpike, we welcome Fred's Discount Tire & Auto to Our Towne. Fred had many choices where to set up the shop that bears his name. Fred's Discount Tire & Auto chose a very particular location to set up shop. A historical building, now painted red, white & blue as a tribute to the American work ethic that built this country; small, local family businesses helping their neighbors and community. Fred chose the old Colfil Getty Station on the corner of Rensselaer Ave & Route 9 Columbia Turnpike as a home for his new business. This location was not chosen because it was a garage for 60 years. It was not chosen because it is a high traffic location and passed by thousands each day. Fred chose this building after meeting Frank Filippini, the owner of the building, and hearing his story. His Journey. His business philosophy. His Life. Fred immediately developed an admiration for Frank and his career. The Legacy (Frank Filippini) Retired now for 10 years, Frank is thrilled that he finally found another business owner who shares his passion for auto mechanics, a tireless work ethic and dedication to provide honest & reasonable service to the community. During his 55 years as owner of Colfil Getty, Tydol & Flying A, he served our community well. It was 61 years ago that the building at the corner of Route 9/ Columbia Turnpike and Rensselaer Avenue was just a one-bay service station. Back in 1955, with a $1,500 investment, Frank and his partner opened Colfil Getty in Rensselaer. After a few months, his partner wanted to move on to other endeavors, so Frank paid his friend $50 and the business was all his. It was a dirty and gloomy building when they started, but Frank poured his heart & soul into building the business. Business soared and he was highlighted in the national Getty Business Magazine praising his hard work, business ethics and excellence. He tirelessly ran the auto mechanics shop and was recognized as high volume Getty Gas Station and Getty Ambassador for many years. The work ethic & dedication to his business was apparent to anyone who knew him. In the beginning, sleeping in the back room was common. He serviced all of the 24 Capital City Taxis, for his friend and former business partner. Fred Sliney connected with Frank's work ethic and knew that he wanted to carry on the buildings legacy. When you stop into Fred's Discount Auto & Tires, the first thing you would notice is Fred's sincere interest in your needs. Oh yeah, and his Boston accent. Raised in South Boston by a strict Father, who "Didn't ask. He demanded." Dad was a 30 year Veteran, he was not raising any kid without the highest work ethic and drive for success. Dad didn't have the funds to send Fred to college, but Cape Cod Tech was a local 4 year trade school where Fred learned how to be a mechanic. From Left to Right: FrankFilippini, Fred Sliney, Anthony Sliney proudly stand in front of the shop that connects them on many levels.

He was a star pupil and even after he left to work at Sullivan Tires, a large local chain of auto & tire centers, he was often called back to the school to help problem solve mechanical issues. Sullivan Tire sent him to the local community college where he took Sociology classes. The owner of this family business wanted Fred to be successful working with people. And he was. At 22 years old, Fred was the youngest store manager at any Goodyear Independent Service Center. Ready for a change, he decided to go back to school for a new trade. Eighteen years ago, Fred settled in Castleton and enrolled in the Local 201, as he had his sights set on becoming a Glazer. He wanted a new career as a builder, and enrolled in 4 years of school. As a Journeyman glazing buildings in the area he proved himself again as one of the most hard working professionals in new field. He was sought after and promoted to jobs in Manhattan because he was not afraid of heights (and could pass the drug test). Working on some of the tallest buildings in Manhattan, he would travel back and forth each day by bus. For two years, he took a Greyhound bus to Manhattan from Albany to work as a Glazer. It was a brutal schedule and he missed working on cars and working with people. He took a job working for Mavis and quickly became a Regional Manager for a few years. He was responsible for 20 million in profit. He was back in the tire and automotive industry, but it didn't feel right. He was not comfortable with the values of Corporate America. When he was asked to cut salaries of his hard working staff, he decided that the culture of "corporate practice" was not something he was going to participate in. So this brings us to the next chapter in Fred's career...he's ready to work for himself and put his name on the sign. Now focused on passing his work ethic and pride of workmanship onto his 21 year old son Anthony. This family owned & operated full service auto repair and tire center wants to know you, and for you to know them. You can be confident in the ASE Certified Technicians, quality parts and most current diagnostic technology. With 35 years experience, years of mechanical training and college, they are here to serve your vehicle needs. They sell new and pre-owned brand name tires for everyone's budget. Guaranteed service on foreign & domestic cars, trucks, SUV and fleet vehicles. Fred is the only approved shop in Rensselaer to install Driver Impaired Smart Start Interlock System in cars for those with a DWI offense. Stop in and meet Fred & Anthony, located next to the Skyline Diner at 320 Columbia Turnpike in Rensselaer. Open Mon-Fri 8-6 & Sat 8-3:00. Please call 433-7205 to make an appointment today. www.fredsdiscounttireandautorepair.com

LOBSTER BISQUE Ingredients: 2 Clove Garlic, Finely Minced 2 Shallots, Finely Minced (substitute mild onion, if needed) 2 (14.5 Oz.) Cans Petite Diced Tomatoes, With Juice 1 (32 Oz.) Carton Low-Sodium Chicken Broth 1 Tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning 1 Teaspoon Dried Dill 1/4 Cup Fresh Parsley, Chopped 1 Teaspoon Freshly Cracked Black Pepper 1/2 Teaspoon Paprika 4 Lobster Tails 1 Pint Heavy Cream
Read Our Towne Magazine online at:
www.ourtownerensco.com Current & Past Issues
Instructions 1.Cook minced shallots and garlic in a small skillet and cook until the shallots are wilted and starting to turn translucent. 2.Put shallots & garlic mixture your crock-pot. 3.Continue adding tomatoes, chicken broth, old bay seasoning, dill, parsley, pepper & paprika. 4.With a sharp knife cut off the fan part of the very end of the lobsters and add those to the crock-pot. 5.Stir, cover and cook on low for 6 hours or 3 hours on high. 6.Remove the lobster tail ends and discard. 7.Using a blender or immersion blender puree the soup mixture to your desired chunkiness. (I pureed half until smooth and the other half just a light puree.) 8.Add the soup back into the crock-pot if you used a regular blender. 9.Add your lobster tails to the soup, cover and cook 45 minutes on low or until the shells turn red and the lobster meat is cooked. 10.Remove lobster tails from the soup and let cool slightly. 11.While the lobster is cooling add the cream and stir. 12.With a sharp knife cut each lobster tail in half long-ways and remove the lobster flesh from the shells. 13.Discard shells and roughly chop lobster meat and add back into the soup. 14.Serve and enjoy!

Dear Our Towne Readers, March is here and I am ready to celebrate! Spring officially begins on March 20th and Easter is on the 27th. It is a very special time of year when we can all celebrate renewal, rebirth and the gift of life. Even if you don’t celebrate Easter, you can find joy in watching the daffodils and tulips break through the soil. As the buds appear on trees, there is a feeling of hope and excitement that fills my heart. Taking a walk and smelling the fresh air is a treat, after enjoying the comforts of home all winter. It was a great winter, but I am still very excited to see the green grass. On page 11, you will find the first of many articles written about local Community Organizations. The articles have been written by students in Ms. Flood’s Journalism Class at Maple Hill High School. They were asked to pick a service organization in the community that they wanted to promote. It has been a pleasure working with these students and I am thrilled to publish the articles. This partnership with the school allows me to support and encourage student writers and "Connect the Community." Two values that are important to me. The first article has been written by my own daughter, Allison.

Our Cats, the Wildcats
The average housecat and its pedigreed cousins have more than its untamed origins in common. A 2007 DNA analysis found that purebred cats as well as those with uncertain lineage may have descended from wildcats found in the Near East. The analysis supports genetic and archaeological studies. The study sampled DNA from almost 1,000 domestic and wild cats found throughout Europe and Asia. Researchers were able to separate the felines into five related groups: Europeanwildcat, Southern African wildcat, Central Asian wildcat, Chinese desert cat and the Near Eastern wildcat. The results found that all of the sampled domestic cats, regardless of breed or background, fell into the last group; it also found that the domesticated cats in study descended from five mitochondrial DNA lineages. Although no one knows exactly when the wildcat became a purring companion, there are 42 recognized Cat Fancier Association breeds and these breeds have pedigree history. Perhaps one of the best known is the Persian cat with its plush, opulent coat. Fanciers call Iran and Persian home of origin for this feline. The British Shorthair, with its dense, blue-colored coat, can come in other colors and patterns. While its name suggests it is an English cat, it has ancestral roots in Rome. Many a cat lover may recognize the finely shaped head and almond eyes of a Siamese cat. Renowned for its vocal nature, this breed was imported from Thailand in the late 1800s.
Pampered Paws Grooming Stress Free Grooming for Cats & Dogs A distinctly American cat is the Maine Coon. A large, sturdy cat with a heavy coat, revealing its Northeastern origin, was popular in the early 1900s. However, by the 1950s, its popularity had faded and some mistakenly believed it was extinct. One of the oldest of CFA’s breeds is the Chartreux. This copper-eyed feline sports a unique blue coat that is “wooly” in texture, like that of sheep. With its ancestry linked in ancient Persia, the cats are believed to have ended up in French monasteries courtesy of knights returning from the Crusades. There are three breeds known for their tails or rather lack of one. The American Bobtail has a short, bobbed tail and is often mistaken for a bobcat. American breeders used feral domestic cats with this naturally occurring tail to produce today’s breed. The Japanese Bobtail is another short-tailed cat. Native to Japan, it is believed to have come from China or Korea one thousand years ago. The third breed is the Manx, originating from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. The Manx is known for being tailless; however, all Manx have a fulltail gene, meaning they could be born with a tail. Although there are many other eye-catching cat breeds, regardless of pedigree or history, cats all share a mystery comparable to no other. Science has found, regardless of their breed or characteristics, even the most common barn cat can claim a wildcat place in history. —Dr. Thomas Phillips

SPECIAL NEEDS SWIM TEAM COMPETEs in FIRST CAPITAL DISTRICT INCLUSIONARY MEET YMCA Partners with STRIDE Adaptive Sports Sets Record The STRIDE Adaptive Sports Swim Team has been competing at Special Olympics events for years, but never against peers without special needs. In a remarkable debut of ‘leveling the playing field’ the Capital District Y's Greenbush team and Glens Falls YMCA team invited the STRIDE Sting Rays to participate in a YMCA dual meet. The event was on January 24th at the Greenbush YMCA. STRIDE Stingray team was very excited about the new challenge and learning opportunity along their non-disabled peers to proudly showcase their skills. STRIDE has been competing with Special Olympics for over 5 years, and this dual meet will allow the STRIDE swimmers to take their competition to the next level.
“This season, on Sunday mornings, the Sea Lions held practice simultaneously with STRIDE Stingray swimmers in the far lanes. The passion and commitment demonstrated by the STRIDE swimmers each week peeked my interest to invite them to the next dual meet.” commented Sea Lions Coach Ellen Schuler. “The dual meet will be a learning experience for all youth when STRIDE swimmers are integrated into the competition and we can celebrate their skills and determination” Celebrating 30 years of service to the community, STRIDE Adaptive Sports is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides over 8,000 adaptive sport and recreation lessons each year to individuals with disabilities, focusing on youth and Wounded Warriors. With office headquarters in New York’s Capital Region, STRIDE offers programs in over 16 different sports to more than 1,500 families at 25+ regional locations each year. With an emphasis on individual life-time sports, STRIDE programs use specialized equipment or teaching aids for successful participation to “level the playing field” for all. STRIDE is a partner member of Disabled Sports USA and Professional Ski Instructors of America; a US Paralympic Sport Club; a training club for New York Special Olympics; and an official Red Cross Provider. STRIDE is recognized as one of the leading adaptive sport programs in the Northeastern United States.
The CDYMCA Greenbush Sea Lions and Glens Falls Gators swim teams, are part of the North Country League, an organization made up of 5 Capital District YMCAs (Greenbush, Southern Saratoga, Guilderland, Bethlehem, and Glenville) and four other area YMCAs (Glens Falls, Kingston, Fulton, and Saratoga). The North Country League (NCL) season begins each September culminating with League Championships in late February. Qualifying swimmers from the NCL advance to the NYS YMCA Championships being held this year in Buffalo in mid-March. Several National qualified YMCA swimmers competing at the More information about STRIDE Adaptive Sports can be found at meet with STRIDE. Question:
Local & Fresh
Dr. Patrick Bergmann
I have dexterity concerns, what options are available for me?
Answer:
A: Many of my patients have dexterity issues. There are a couple of ways to get around this issue. The first and easiest solution is for the patient to use an "extended wear hearing aid." This form of amplification allows the patient to wear the hearing aid for up to 8 weeks while resuming normal activities such as bathing and sleeping, without having to remove or handle it.

The extended wear aid is placed in the patient's ear by an audiologist at a 30 minute appointment and requires no additional handling by the patient. These hearing aids are easy and convenient and great for people with dexterity issues. It should however be noted that not all patients are candidates for these aids, and this tends to be a more expensive option. An evaluation by your audiologist will determine candidacy. Another option for people with dexterity issues is the use of more traditional hearing aids with the use of a remote or rechargeable batteries. These options require minimal manipulation. These hearing aids require the patient to insert the aid into their own ear daily. The use of a remote kept in the pocket allows for adjustments to the hearing aid's volume or settings, while a rechargeable hearing aid eliminates the necessity of changing batteries weekly and turning aids on/off. To determine which option would best work for you I would recommend seeing an audiologist for an evaluation and consultation so together you can determine what will work best for you.
