The Our Towne Spotlight Shines On... Becker’s Farm Garden Center, located in East Greenbush, is a fifth generation family owned and operated business. In 1870, Reinhardt Becker purchased his first 5 acres. Little did he know that his business venture and love for farming would continue for 150 years! He began small fruit and vegetable business selling his produce at the farmer’s market in Albany, Troy and Menands. As the demand for fresh produce started to grow, Reinhardt realized he could not produce enough with the land he had, so he purchased adjoining properties in 1894.
a
In 1931, when the founding father of Becker’s Farm passed away, his son Frank Becker continued to grow fresh fruits and vegetables. By 1963 Frank’s son Frank Jr took over the farm expanding even more... Most of the produce was sold locally along routes 9 & 20. By the late 1970’s, retail grocery chains were providing large amounts of lower cost produce to the consumer. Frank Jr. recognized the farm needed to change its focus; and built a small greenhouse in 1980 to grow bedding plants. With its immediate success, he quickly built two more greenhouses and began to concentrate efforts on plants. In 1989 Frank Jr’s son, David, returned to the farm and has expanded the greenhouses and nursery. With David’s son Mark now involved, David can concentrate on production while Mark oversees Retail Sales & Management. Becker’s Farm Garden Center currently operates 11 greenhouses that total over 75,000 sq. ft. of growing area. David notes “It is an exciting time of year around the farm and we are eager to greet our loyal and new customers next month when we open for our 150th year!” Together they are devoted to growing the highest quality plants and with their experience and knowledge, can direct you to the plants that suit your needs and tastes! By growing their own plants, then can ensure quality products and maintain quality control. Spring has sprung and Becker’s Farm is ready for all of your planting needs! Well known for the “largest baskets around,” they fill the greenhouses and nursery with large quantities and varieties to suit any taste. They offer plants for every part of your exterior landscape. A huge variety of robust annual flowers, herbs and vegetables are transplanted daily. By mid-April, large selections of trees and shrubs will arrive and later in April, they offer a huge selection of perennials. By early May, a large assortment of Star roses will find their way to Becker’s Farm. As a certified retailer of Proven Winner plants, they sell a series of plants that are specifically chosen to thrive in our region & climate. Varieties like Bacopa, Calibrachoa, Osteospermum, Scaevola and Supertunia are all popular favorites among beginner and master gardeners. The Supertunia is famous for its large size and low maintenance. To complete your landscaping needs, Becker’s Farm also sells bulk lawn and garden products such as various colors of mulch, topsoil, garden compost and sand for pick up or delivery. Mulch not only improves the look of the landscape, but adds length to the life of your plants. The staff at Becker's Farm prides themselves on excellent customer service and knowledge of the plants & nursery stock. Many of the associates come from gardening and horticultural backgrounds; providing customers with accurate information and insight. David and Mark Becker are proud to continue the business that has sustained climate and economic changes throughout the years. Becker’s Farm provides florist quality products with excellent customer service, and reasonable prices. Becker’s Farm thanks the Our Towne communities for their patronage and support. Becker’s Farm Garden Center, located directly across from Columbia Plaza in East Greenbush, has the best selection of high-quality plants in the area where price and quality come together. We are open 7 days a week from spring through the holiday season. For directions or more information, call 477-4163 or email info@beckersfarm.com.
Happy Spring from “Your Hometown Garden Center.”

Using eBay To Research Your Items - eBay can be valuable in your research, but you need to know how to use it. Once you get the hang of the search feature, you will LOVE it! Using Specialty Search Engines - There are specialized search engines that can help you for sure. Researching Art - Have an oil painting, watercolor, etching or sculpture? Check these websites out for yourself. AskArt - The best place to find out about an American artist. Search by artist name. ArtPrice - This is a great place to go if you have any type of art to research, whether it be a painting, print or sculpture. Just type the artist name into the search field. They give you any auction records, current pricing estimates and sometimes much more information including signatures, images or a biography. You get more information the more well known the artist is. Some features and information are available for free, but you need to pay a fee to get auction prices and more detailed information. If you have a piece of art you think may be worth something, the small fee ($8.25) is certainly worth it. Absolute Arts - Database of contemporary artists. The Best Antiques & Collectibles Books - We will be adding our recommended books and guides here. More Antiques Resources - Many other online resources. Antique Tutorials - Tutorials and introductions to a wide variety of antiques areas including porcelain, art, autos, coins, watches, currency, clocks, glass, rugs, textiles and other antiques. Antique Week - Currently you can register for free and get 4 weeks of their publication free. Antiques Roadshow Online: The official website of the PBS show. About Antiques - The About.com antiques channel, some good information can be found here despite being loaded with ads. Antiques Information - General information on the best ways to store your antiques at home instead of in pods storage. Antiques Storage - Information on storing antique textiles in your home. BBC Antiques - The BBC TV channel in the UK has this extensive site loaded with information. Check out the price guide with over 5000 items they have appraised on the British version of Antiques Roadshow. Brimfield's - The site of the largest antiques show in the US. Online Appraisals - If all else fails, try having someone else do the research for you. We can help you so please let us know if you have any questions. Just call Stephanie Daly at 518-9440256 if you would like a consultation! THANK YOU!

Dear Our Towne Readers, As I write this editorial, my thoughts are like a pin ball machine. It has been only 5 days that I have self quarantined at home with my husband and two daughters. This week has been a whirlwind of information; changing by the hour. After rushing down to NYC to move Allie out of her dorm, we have now settled into a new way of life that may last for months. My husband is the designated person to leave the house (only twice) for fresh produce and prescriptions. We are most definitely the family taking the threat of the Coronavirus extremely serious. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and after being on medications for 14 years, have a compromised immune system. I am more susceptible to catching things, and when I do I suffer from an RA flare up that keeps me in bed for days. It is a cycle I can’t afford to start, so I have been working diligently at home pulling this issue together; enjoying the home that hopefully will protect us from the evil virus that is lurking everywhere. I am still in the honeymoon stage of PAUSE. Having our family under one roof with no place to go is awesome! Not sure how I will feel in a few weeks, but honestly I am excited (and relieved). After I send this April issue to print in 24 hours, I have lots on the to-do list. Cleaning, organizing, gardening, painting, board games, forcing kids to watch epic movies & tv shows from the 70’s -90’s and of course catching up with friends over the phone that I hardly ever have time to text. Our world is on the verge of being turned up side down and anxiety and unknowns are taking over. We have to do our part by staying home as much as possible and sacrifice for the greater good. My heart breaks for MANY of my customers who regularly advertise in Our Towne. Thankfully, some are “essential businesses” and still open. Of course, not knowing what the next few months will bring is very stressful for all of us. Almost all of small family owned & operated businesses are going to take a serious hit, and I pray they will somehow be able to survive. In this April magazine, we lost 8 advertisements and I wonder what May will bring. I hope to be able to continue to publish, but of course may need to adjust distribution to keep expenses at least equal with income. If you genuinely enjoy receiving Our Towne Magazine, please send me an e-mail so I can make sure you continue to receive it in the mail. Hopefully any changes to distribution will be very temporary. The best way to stay on top of what is going on, LIKE Our Towne Magazine Rensco on Facebook. The magazine is always posted by the 1st of the month on Facebook and on our website. https://ourtownerensco.com/. You can read the current and past issue are there for your reference and enjoyment. I have dedicated many pages to resources and information regarding COVID-19. You will find information from The Town of Schodack, Rensselaer County a list of food pantries and information about #211. For those of you who are working from home with the same income, I beg you to make donations to your local food pantries so they can purchase food and essential items. In addition, the Capital District YMCA will provide childcare for emergency personnel who do not have the option to work from home, as defined by The New York State Education Department. Emergency health care professionals include licensed health professionals such as physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, LPNs, nurse assistants or laboratory personnel and direct support professionals. Additionally, they are covering first responders, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, and firefighters. From their website, “The YMCA has changed lives for the better over the course of our 163-year history in the Capital District. We expect to continue to do so, regardless of the challenges we are currently facing. Throughout the Y’s history, we have been called upon in times of crisis, conflict and strife to provide critical services. We ask for your ongoing support of our efforts during this trying time.” They quickly pulled together the emergency child care program in less than a week. This is what I absolutely love about the YMCA; they are mission driven and will do what they can to support our community members in their time of need. Donations can be made on their website https://cdymca.org/support-the-y/. Please do what you can to avoid contact with the public and in the community. Stay home if you can and encourage those you love to do the same. If we do that, we CAN save lives! Thank you for reading Our Towne and supporting our local businesses that are still open!

Reflections & Revelations By Suzanne St. Germain As I Drive Away I realize there are many emotions when someone drives away. I have been blessed to have had many opportunities to experience these. As a young woman, barely out of school, I drove away from the only home I had ever known, leaving behind my childhood collections, carrying just my memories and a car full of household goodies to start life on my own. I eventually met my future husband. We drove away from our family and friends after our wedding. The excitement and well wishes for our future were palpable. Eventually we drove away from the hospital with our first child. We were amazed that we were allowed to leave “unattended” with this amazing little person and little idea how to care for him. Not long after, we drove away again with our second bundle of joy; this time more prepared to make the trip. They start little and time flies. You are now in your doorway watching your newly licensed teenager drive away. It makes your heart beat a little faster until they arrive home safely. They will, eventually, take the same trip you did so many years ago, to venture out on their own. Your heart doesn’t just beat faster this time but seems to break a little.

I have visited my parents frequently during my travels through life. I have, gratefully, had many opportunities to watch them in their doorway each time I drove away – on my own for many years and then with my children. As I advance in years, of course so do they. I have grown to temper my enthusiasm for my children as they grow with the understanding and respect that, as I reach milestones in life (children graduating, moving out, etc.), so do my parents. Their milestones included an empty nest, retirement that lead to travel and, eventually, their inability to drive away on their own. I know there will come a day when I will have expended the last opportunity to drive away from my parents. While this is a heartbreaking thought, I am grateful for the many opportunities I've had to drive away.

www.cornerstonesurveyingny.com For so many, the Greenbush YMCA is a place to seek refuge from day-to-day stress. It’s a place for people to gather, make connections and to engage in classes and programs that support a healthy lifestyle. Beyond our walls, beyond the gymnasium and the swimming pool, the Greenbush Y is so much more. We are committed to helping youth, teens and adults of all ages whenever they need us most. It is for this reason that we ask you, the community, to stay with us in these unprecedented times.
State Parks Are Open & Offer You A Break From The House! Nature is still open despite coronavirus crisis! State parks remain open during the states of emergency and closures throughout New York. The state is also waiving all fees in state, local and county parks. Spring is here so get outside and embrace the fresh air! Parks are open but public programs and events have been suspended indefinitely and indoor facilities, such as nature centers, visitor centers and historic houses will be closed to encourage social distancing. Take a walk around the parks and look for signs of spring! The Centers for Disease Control and the state Department of Health recommend the following steps to stop the spread of the Coronavirus: Keep a distance of at least six feet from others & avoid close contact! Avoid shaking hands, hugging and kissing; wash hands often or use a hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. Avoid surfaces that are touched often, such as doorknobs, handrails and refrain from using any playground equipment. “Taking care of yourself, your friends, and your family can help you cope with stress,” according to the CDC’s Coronavirus Manage Anxiety and Stress website. “Helping others cope with their stress can also make your community stronger.” The CDC recommends taking breaks from exposure to information related to COVID-19, doing enjoyable activities, andconnecting with others, as well as taking care of one’s body. This includes regular exercise, eating healthy and getting plenty of sleep. Reach out to friends & family over the phone or the computer Maybe download a game app on your phone and enjoy playing Scrabble in the comfort of your own, safe, home. People feeling overwhelmed with emotions like sadness, depression or anxiety, or are thinking about personal harm due to COVID-19, can call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746.
When the fight against this terrible virus ends, people will still need our help. Together, we will ensure that families in need can continue to receive full Thanksgiving meals through our Community Basket Brigade, and that children can resume their back to school shopping trips in the Running Start program. We can give more children the magic of summer camp, when they would otherwise be unable to attend. We can keep our Circle of Champs program strong, to give children with life-threatening illnesses and their families the chance to get away from the stresses of doctor visits and painful procedures. And right now, we’re offering emergency childcare for medical personnel and first responders – those among us who leave for work each morning to keep others alive. We need your help to keep it going. Visit CDYMCA.org/Support-the-Y/ to learn more, and to offer your support. After all, we are Better Together. With positivity and strength, Shannon, District Executive Director, Greenbush YMCA

Have I been preparing for this my whole life? Days on end of scrolling social media, waking up late, working out in my basement and eating random food in the pantry. These past weeks have presented me with some serious decisions like: Which slippers should I wear today? Or, if the expiration date on yogurt has passed, is it really bad? Or tested my math skills in order to count how many days it’s been since I last washed my hair? OK. In all seriousness. I’m counting on the fact that folks can see that I’m trying to approach this with humor, with seeing the glass as full. Life has changed, it definitely isn’t easy and will ripple into the future for sure in unimaginable ways. We’ve all heard of the victims, seen businesses get shuttered, futures be tenuous and well beings be risked by people, literally everywhere. With all of that, things that have made me smile so far. First thing is the fact that my kids are here with me. I didn’t realize how much our family unit was disrupted when Nate went away to school. I mean, I was ready for it. Our life was moving on in a predictable way, but since we’ve had to take a step back as a family, I’m happy that I get to wake up every day with two sleeping kids under my roof, and send positive thoughts out to the many folks are separated by unintentional scenarios and unfathomable circumstances. I’m smiling because I married MacGuyver. I’ve told you before how “kinda” handy my husband is, and how he can really make a whole lot of things out of duct tape and some twine. But now, he’s in his zombie-apocalyptic glory, throwing axes and fixing things. You can rest assured that all of our lightbulbs are changed, cars are gassed up and flashlights have batteries. More importantly, he’s calm. He’s working his hardest to be strong for us, be the voice of reason for family and friends (something he excels at), and trying to do right for his patients and employees. I'm thankful for social media. Yes. The very thing that has sucked away so many hours from my adult life, burned so many brain cells, exposed me to constant EMF and allowed me to become an expert on the most inane information, has in turn become a source of comfort, humor and connection. PS...I love all funny animal videos, misbehaving babies and a good recipe. Message me!
Spring Word Search
I laugh at myself over the almost pathologic amount of things that I’ve “almost purchased” in various shopping carts. Considering the fact that I’ve only worn outfits that pair with pajama bottoms or hoodies, the fact that I have a whole travel wardrobe in my Nordstrom cart, a complete furniture replacement on Overstock, and seriously the most random s%^$ in my Amazon cart. It’s really quite ridiculous. I’m hopeful for my kids' futures because they’ve had to learn to declutter, do laundry bake cookies and go to school online. They’ve had to endure immense disappointment over the loss of a winning basketball season cut short, the reminder of a prom not happening with a very expensive, un altered fancy prom dress hanging in the closet, and the “college experience” occurring from the comfort of the kitchen counter. The good news is that most teens were already experts on social distancing and have taught us a few things. The hopeful part comes with watching the grace with which they are processing their challenges and knowing with certainty that they will go on to use this to fuel their future successes. Let’s only hope we take it as resiliently, as I know they will. At the writing of this, I am amazingly impressed and confident in the outcomes in New York. I’m excited knowing that a generation of brilliant students will choose infectious disease and epidemiology as a college major thanks to the NIH’s Dr. Fauchi, medical fields because of the brave and tireless healthcare workers that are the backbone of our crisis, education because of the impressive and confident way our teachers have become beacons of support and motivation and of course cosmetologist, because let’s be real….my hair is in some serious trouble and could really use a color and cut.

Marketing Your Home One of the fastest changing areas of the real estate business is how Realtors market homes. It wasn’t long ago that print media was the “go to” source for most home buyers and sellers to get their current real estate information. I’ve had many a seller ask, “how many times per month will my home be advertised in the local paper?” Of course, those days are long gone and now replaced by various online real estate centric portals including the Howard Hanna website, Zillow & Trulia, Realtor.com and hundreds of lesser known sites. Each of these sites eagerly grabs the real estate information for new listings off the multiple listing service and publishes it on their own proprietary sites. All new listings get exposure from these sites regardless of the Realtor. What a Realtor does to give your home further exposure is what separates the best Realtors from the rest of the pack. Social media exposure is now a must and the Brewer Morris Team has recently retained the services of a Digital Content Marketing Consultant to make sure our social media presence is top quality and targeted to the most motivated purchasers. Having the right digital presence for our team is essential in fostering new leads, expanding our reach through our customer’s social circles, and establishing our position as a leader in local real estate. This new tool is a valuable addition to our overall marketing plan and we feel, is a great benefit to anyone who lists their home with our top Team. We still use the tried and true techniques that have served me so well for over 40 years in the business including installing a solid post and bracket sign, regular open houses, doing a neighborhood mailing to announce new listings and many, many more steps to insure maximum exposure to our listings. The Brewer Morris Team is committed to offering the most comprehensive listing package that is available in the local market. Hello East Greenbush! Our names are Mike Martin and Taylor Tibbetts and we are your new Community and Recreation Department! We were both unanimously appointed by the Town Board on February 19, 2020. A little bit about ourselves... Mike graduated from St. Bonaventure University In 2019 with a B.A in Political Science and Pre-Law. He is the chairman and founder of Tree City USA for Castleton-On-Hudson, a nonprofit organization that focuses on environmental conservation and community engagement on different projects. Taylor is the former Store Manager at Peebles in East Greenbush with her Associates Degree from HVCC. Both of us are beyond excited about new ideas and activities we can bring to East Greenbush’s families and seniors. We look forward to continuing the tradition of great events such as the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Party, Christmas Tree Lighting and of course our outstanding Summer Camp. We are also looking into expanding our senior program here in town, and providing more opportunities for them such as taking trips to local theatres (Mac-Haydn). Our current focus is Summer Camp, and we encourage everyone to apply on our town website through RecDesk, our new recreation software. All field trips and weekly themes can be found on our website, EastGreenbush.org. See our advertisement to the left for details! Also, follow The Town of East Greenbush Community and Recreation Department for updates. Our office is located at the East Greenbush Town Hall at 225 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, NY 12144. We can be reached at 518-477-4194 EXT:234. We look forward to meeting so many of you and taking this department to new heights together! Yours Truly, Mike Martin- Recreation Director Taylor Tibbetts- Recreation Assistant

Stephanie Daly Honey Baked Ham
Ingredients 8-10 pound (4-5 kg) bone-in or boneless fully cooked ham 1/3 cup pineapple juice 1 cup honey 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup unsalted butter 1/4 cup whole cloves Instructions Preheat the oven to 300°F and arrange a rack in the lower third. Trim away the rind and discard. Set the ham aside to rest at room temperature for 1-2 hours. Line a baking tray or dish with several sheets of aluminium foil or parchment paper if you prefer (it will make cleanup a lot easier).

Castleton Public Library April Update
Remove the rind or skin of the ham (refer to steps in post), ensuring you leave the fat on. Using a sharp knife score a 1-inch-wide diamond pattern (don’t cut more than 1/4 inch deep) over the entire ham. Insert cloves into the centre of each diamond. Place the ham in the baking tray; pour the pineapple juice into the base of the pan and cover the ham with two pieces of foil or parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the butter in a small pot or saucepan over medium heat until golden browned. Add in the honey and brown sugar, stirring to combine until the brown sugar has completely dissolved, (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to low and let simmer to thicken slightly, then set aside and let cool to lukewarm (the glaze should be the consistency of room-temperature honey). After 15 minutes baking time, carefully remove the ham from the oven and increase the oven temperature to 425°F | 220°C. Discard the foil or parchment paper and pour 1/3 of the glaze all over the ham, brushing in between the cuts to evenly cover. Return to the oven and bake uncovered for 15 minutes.
AARP Tax-Aide Service Appointments As of 3/16/2020, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Sites Service has been suspended until further notice. This includes appointments made at the East Greenbush Community Library location which is currently closed until further notice. For updates about Tax-Aide sites, check https://www.aarp.org/ money/taxes/aarp_taxaide/ or call 1-888-227-7669.
Remove from the oven, brush with another third of the glaze and some of the pan juices, and repeat again after 15 minutes more minutes of baking until a dark golden-brown crust has formed, (about 30 minutes total). For added depth of flavour, mix some of the ham pan juices together with the glaze in the pot which will help keep it runny enough for brushing.

If your crust is still pink after the suggested baking time, turn on your broiler (or oven grill), and allow it to broil for 2-5 minutes, while keeping an eye on it so it doesn't burn from the sugar.

Special Report from Supervisor David Harris regarding the Town of Schodack’s COVID-19 response I want to thank Our Towne for providing me this opportunity to give an update on the current COVID-19 outbreak. Please know that I am writing this on Friday, March 20th and the situation is very fluid at this time and many of the things I'm about to say may change by the time you read this. Please follow our social media pages on Facebook or Twitter or check on the Town's website at www.schodack.org for updates and current information. On Monday, March 16th, we took the step of shutting down public access to our Town Hall and following directives issued by the Governor reduced our staffing throughout the week. We apologize for any inconvenience these measures may have caused but our foremost concern at this point is the health and safety of our residents and employees. We all need to do our part to limit exposure and slow the spread. If you are in need of something please call the Town Hall and contact that respective department and we'll work to address your needs. Our Transfer Station remains open however we are only accepting household waste and recyclables at this time. Additionally, the new pricing plan set to take effect April 1st have been postponed until June 1st. We have also taken the step of pulling our highway crew off the road but they remain available to respond to any needs should they arise. Our Water and Sewer department remains on the job ensuring these essential services are delivered to those relying on them. We ask you do not flush any wipes or paper products down your toilets with the exception of toilet paper. These products often cause troubles for our sewer systems and we want to keep any problems to a minimum at this time. I also want to thank our Schodack P.D. for their continued service to our community in the face of these challenges. Finally, I want to thank my fellow Town Board members and the numerous elected officials and employees from all levels of government for their rapid response and guidance throughout the week. Again, please follow our social media pages or the Town's website for more updates and information as this situation develops. Supervisor David Harris Every day thousands of people across North America turn to 2-1-1 for information and support—whether financial, domestic, health or disaster-related. 211 is a free, confidential referral and information help line and website that connects people of all ages and from all communities to the essential health and human services they need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 211 can be accessed by phone or computer. A toll-free call to 211 connects you to a community resource specialist in your area who can put you in touch with local organizations that provide critical services that can improve—and save—lives. You’ll find information about: •Supplemental food and nutrition programs •Shelter/housing options and utilities assistance •Emergency information and disaster relief •Employment and education opportunities •Services for veterans •Health care, vaccination and health epidemic information •Addiction prevention and rehabilitation programs Reentry help for ex-offenders •Support groups for individuals with mental illnesses or special needs •A safe, confidential path out of physical and/or emotional domestic abuse The local Northeast Region of 2-1-1 serves those in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington counties. Mega thanks to the community and Schodack Central School for their wonderful donation of non perishable foods and money donated from their “Hoops 4 Hunger” basketball challenge. The Anchor appreciates all the donations as it helps us with our food budget tremendously. A special thank you to SCS teacher Pat Austin and volunteers who coordinates this event.

Any dog having a seizure should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible, however, if your dog experiences cluster seizures or has one lasting two minutes or longer, it is a medical emergency. Immediately take your dog to a veterinarian. The body’s activity during a seizure will raise the dog’s body temperature, and it can quickly overheat. Without immediate medical attention, the dog may die or suffer permanent brain damage.

By Madison Hearing Center
Q: Why do hearing aids come in so many prices? A: Hearing aids are classified in multiple
technology levels, ranging from basic to more sophisticated levels. Each technology level has different features available, mainly relating to background noise management and support. However, from practice to practice, you will see different prices for the same model of hearing aid. Typically, the overhead costs will be similar from location to location, such as the invoice cost of the hearing aid and costs relating to office overhead. Some offices will choose to bundle their charges, others will choose to keep them unbundled, and sometimes you have a combination of the two. With bundled costs, this means when you purchase a hearing aid, any service fees like programming or repairs are included in the initial cost of the hearing aid. You wouldn’t pay for hearing aid cleanings, repairs as needed by the manufacturer, or sometimes supplies like batteries or wax filters. Bundled systems generally are more expensive up front, but then you wouldn’t be responsible for any service fees later on.

Offices that utilize an unbundled system will just charge you for the hearing aid at first, and sometimes an initial visit or two, but otherwise you’ll be charged for the services as you need them—this is called “fee per service.” Under this model, you’ll pay less initially, and pay for services as you need them through time, like hearing aid cleaning fees or in-office repairs. Audiologists cannot bill insurance for our hearing aid services at this time, which is why you don’t just pay your specialist co-pay for each visit. Audiologists can bill insurance for diagnostics, but not “treatment,” which hearing aids and hearing aid services are considered. There are exceptions to this of course, but hopefully in time hearing aids and hearing aid services will be covered by insurance! - Eileen Nagy, AuD
