www.LoverAntiques.com Corner Many people don’t know where to start when trying to sell their antiques and collectibles. Some will say that there is too much competition, or that the market is flooded for certain items, but these are simply just excuses. I have helped many clients with my appraisals in writing which include correct identifications of their items and a list of the place(s) where similar items have sold. If you are selling an antique, I can help you. Here are only three of many selling tips that you can use. Look for more tips in future blog posts. 1. Keep Collections TogetherSell collections intact. Buyers like to buy full, complete sets like a complete set of Russian Nesting Dolls. Do you want a set of 1979 baseball cards without the Pete Rose card? A set of Beatles dolls without Ringo? Of course not. There is more value in having the entire set available for sale. If your brother has the missing Ringo doll, ask him for it back. 2. Look at the CalendarSell according to the calendar or time of year. Are collectible holiday ornaments selling for top dollar in July? No. Selling particular collectibles in season (baseball cards in the summer, baby collectibles at Mother’s Day, snowy landscape paintings in the winter like those from Walter Baum, etc.) will bring you more value. 3. Know ValuesGet an appraisal that reflects the value of your item on the retail, not the auction market. Make sure the appraisal is based on actual sales This will tell you the top of the market for your item and remind you that you should sell your item close to that price. Somebody else sold it at that price and so can you. My appraisals are based on what people really are paying using real sales. When people start throwing around terms, you’ll know what is what. I hope this helps. Don’t forget to share these tips with others who are trying to sell their antiques. I’ll share more tips in my upcoming blog posts. Plus, you can read previous articles that offer selling tips at www.LoverAntiques.com. Thank you! -Stephanie Daly

It’s that time of year again… allergy season. Many of my patients ask if allergies can impact your hearing and the answer is yes. Some symptoms associated with allergies can include swelling, itching, vertigo and feeling as though your ears are plugged.
Follow us on Facebook for details! #Shoplocal #Curbsidepick-up #stayhomestaysafe
Megan Noonan, AuD If you have allergies, your immune system reacts to a harmless substance such as dust or pollen by producing antibodies that attack that substance causing histamine to be produced. When histamine is released, an allergic reaction such as itching, swelling, congestion and increased mucus production may occur. Skin reactions can occur as a result of allergies. The outer ear and ear canal can itch and swell. An increase in mucus production can cause fluid to build up in your middle ear, causing a conductive hearing loss. Swelling can cause your Eustachian tubes to close, which can result in a build up of fluid or pressure in your middle ear, leading to a feeling of fullness. This can also cause you to feel off balance and can occasionally cause vertigo. Ultimately, seasonal allergies are just that. Seasonal. The allergy symptoms, such as swelling, itching, hearing loss, etc. are temporary and will disappear when the trigger (e.g. pollen) is no longer present. Should your hearing/balance symptoms persist past allergy symptoms, or if symptoms are severe, please contact GarbageMan.” Man” “YourHometown Hometown Garbage your primary“Your physician or audiologist.

Painful toe? It could be an ingrown nail. When a toenail is ingrown, it is curved and grows into the skin, usually at the sides of the nail. This digging in can irritate the skin, often creating pain, redness, swelling and warmth in the toe. If the nail breaks through the skin, bacteria may enter and cause an infection. Causes of ingrown nails can be hereditary, due to trauma, improper trimming, shoes or socks that are too tight or short, or other nail conditions such as fungal nails. Avoid attempting “bathroom surgery!” Repeated cutting of the nail can cause the condition to worsen over time. If your symptoms fail to improve, it is time to call our office. Our doctors are experts in treating this painful condition and are here to help! Due to current NYS mandates, we require that all patients wear a mask when coming to the office. If you or someone you have been in close contact with are experiencing any fever, cough or shortness of breath, please do not come in. Please call to reschedule your appointment.

To grey, or not to grey? By Daryl Bart
These are unprecedented times. We hear it everywhere. Feel it completely. On the news, from the school, in every corner of every piece of content that is delivered to us, fake or otherwise. In my social media feeds, instead of ads for the the too expensive boots I’ll look at, maybe put in my shopping cart, never to be purchased or the exotic vacations sweepstakes I'll enter even though I know it means I’ll get endless emails, I’m now getting ads for video conferencing apps, loungewear and online masters degrees. Something we discussed at dinner is now being marketed to me by morning. Often the algorithms are surprisingly spot on (I do need new slippers).
But I also have never considered the act of coloring of my hair primarily as an escape from peeping greys. Of course, I recognize the contrasting growth patterns. And while my current shade looks “super natural” on me (IMO), I’ve been coloring for so long I actually need a photo album from my youth to prove my original hue. In fact, coming from a family of redheads that grey-gracefully, I logically suspected I had extended patches of sparkles. The truth was never fully exposed beyond 4 weeks of growth, my standing touch up sessions keeping me in the dark, both literally and figuratively.
Hair care is self care. Luxurious appointments with invigorating hair washes, silky blowouts, leaves my mane shampoo commercial bouncy. I get my hair done to suit the season or special events or just because it's a Friday and I haven't washed my hair in a week. I’ve put a lot of love and effort into my hair, with expert assistance, of course. These days, it’s merely depressing when another reminder pops up to alert me of my upcoming appointment at the salon (I count at least 4 so far). My appointment calendar was set long before we all decided to have this corona pandemic, although I understand completely why I’ve had to reschedule.
But there’s that one ad, the one I keep scrolling past, the ad for at home hair color. It's right there, again, taunting me, making sweet promises, tickling at my curiosity and now there is a tug of war going So here I live with the new normal, attending zoom video calls with the on in my mind. Every time I pass my reflection in a mirror the question top of my head “accidentally” off screen and conducting stealth visits to the market with a hat to hide the offending stripe. lingers…...
I wish I could be more profound, and talk about the hopefulness of our graduating seniors, or the resilience of our emergency health That is the question. Can something be done about it? care workers or the confidence in the future of the incredible small businesses in our community. But alas, my own conundrum still Is it nobler to be seen as a victim of circumstance, merely marking the persists. time with this evidence of my isolation? I will do the right thing. I will be resolute in my focus. Practice patience. Is suffering through the waiting only to emerge to the anticipated I will not buy hair color off the internet, no matter how strong the expense on the other side merely an exercise in futility or is truly the testimonials and before and after photos try to lure me in. No matter promised land? how many friends are doing it, I will not be peer pressured. I’ll keep my promise to my stylist, Shelley and I’ll stay the course, and wont do Do I give in to the greater urges, taking up arms against time and anything rash that will likely take months and money for her to fix. age and be persuaded by the folks on the other side “embrace it” “ be natural” “it’s inevitable” “everyone is doing it” To grey or not to grey. Today, I will not go grey. But if during these unprecedented times, you see me in CVS in a hat, and a crazy look in Everyone? Not by choice, not in this house. For that I am certain. my eye, it might be a cry for help. I’m not dramatic. Really. But this hair thing. It’s a thing. PS. At the writing of this article I can confidently say that I have a June I have never, ever, ever considered letting my hair go grey. Like ever. appointment scheduled (with a backup date). To grey, or not to grey?

LAPINSKI DENTAL GENERAL & COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Lapinski Dental is slated to re-open THIS month (YAY) as soon as we’re given the green light by NYS. While our office has always maintained the highest level of infection control, you can expect some notable changes as we implement our “ new & improved best practices” including sterilization, single use items & staff uniforms. Our dental team are well suited (pardon the pun) to handle the current environment. It’s my intention to make sure that both our staff, and our patients, feel confident while in our office and that they know that we’re doing everything possible to deliver your dental health care in a safe and efficient way. Lapinski Dental will be in compliance with every recommended CDC, ADA & NYS Department of Health guideline so that your visits with us are sterile, safe and seamless. In addition to our new PPE protocol (personal protective equipment) for changing & maintaining uniforms throughout the day, you can expect: •New arrival protocol that includes a pre-screening, tempertures & in most cases, patients will wait in their car until their provider is ready for them. •Patients will be expected to wear masks when interacting with our staff, and use hand sanitizer/wash hands before treatment. •We have reduced & spaced waiting room seating. Additionally, all magazines have been removed. •Daily AM/PM Employee temperature screening. •Administrative staff has new clear counter barriers and mask protocols. •We’ve installed touchless credit card machines and additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the building These last few months have been very hard on our staff, we’ve missed our jobs, our co-workers and of course our patients. We ask for your patience as navigate the re-opening and implement these added guidelines. Dr. Barile & I could not be more ready for YOU. And while you might not recognize us, considering our scrubs, masks & face shield have us all covered up, you can be assured that our effort to provide the same quality, friendly, dental office atmosphere will not change and we are DEFINITELY SMILING underneath our masks.
