I’m always asked what I personally do for my skin. My go-to that keeps my skin looking young and feeling fresh is my Deify Diamond Microdermabrasion – Laser Facial Combination Treatment. By working on my skin over the years, I have perfected this treatment to address multiple issues in 45 minutes. Starting with a cleanse and exfoliation of dead skin using diamonds, which are natural minerals and safer on the skin, and suction, we reduce fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, pore size and oiliness. After this we use the YAG laser to build up just enough heat in the dermal layer to initiate the process of new collagen growth. This further reduces the signs of aging and damage from the environment by tightening and lifting. This Combination Treatment can be used as a preventative- to stop the signs of aging before they begin or for corrective, to turn back the hands of time that have crept up on all of us. Either way I recommend a series of three, every three weeks, so you can experience the results I’ve come to rely on. This month I’m offering one session for $99 or three for $299 which is a really affordable option to introduce your skin to a rejuvenation. After this month the regular price is one session for $200 or three for $600. In this day and age more of us are looking for ways to keep our skin healthy and glowing and this regimen is an amazing value and fantastic alternative to costly and invasive plastic surgery. 568 Columbia Tpke East Greenbush NY 12061 518.477.4344 • DeifyBeauty.com

The Our Towne Spotlight Shines on... Jet’s Truck & Auto Body Rensselaer County native Jeff Pfeffer started Jets in 1984, on Rt. 9 in Castleton and then moved to his larger location on Rt. 20 in Nassau, just three and a half miles east of the 9 & 20 juncture. In June of 2014, with a large Columbia County clientele, he expanded and opened a second location at 2532 Route 9H in Kinderhook. He purchased the original Kinderhook Toyota buildings. Jeff and his crew continue to earn praise from customers, and car dealers, for their excellence in the body shop and with customer service. Now celebrating 32 years, Jet’s Truck & Auto Body has served many customers repeatedly from both Columbia and Rensselaer counties. A testament to excellence is his many repeat customers and personal referrals from auto body shops, car dealers and former customers. Jeff is very compassionate towards his customers, “Accidents are stressful enough to begin with,” says Jeff, “so we try to make things as stress-free as possible on our end.” He wants everyone reading this to put his phone numbers in your phone; just in case you hit a deer or get into an accident and need a tow, rental car and collision repair. You will want to make a call to a locally owned & very reputable company that will take the time to ask how you are and help you through the process during a stressful time.
"Jeff and Crew: Thank you for the outsanding work you did on our 2004 Rav 4. It looks as good or better than it did coming off the storeroom floor. And thank you for working so closely with the insurance adjuster. You made a bad thing relatively painless." Mark and Robin in Stockport, NY
Jet’s works with all Insurance companies and their estimates and will try to speed the process up as much as possible. They do have rentals available and 24-hour towing capability. They can even pick your car up for repair and deliver it back to you on completion if that is necessary. Jeff and his team are dedicated to making the process as seamless and least stressful for you.
• Collision Repair • Uni-body Straightening • Full Frame Straightening • Highest Quality Color Match • Custom Paint Jobs • Dent Repair • Windshield and Glass Replacement • Welding • Scratch Removal/ Detailing • Aluminum Repair
Jet’s true specialty has always been collision repair. Everything from small dents to heavy wrecks, they have constantly keep up with the latest equipment and skills to handle your collision needs. They even have full glass coverage capability, including windshields. The Nassau facility has 7 working bays, 2 wash bays, and a down-draft painting booth for when they are done with the repair work. A Car-O-Tronics (which is manufactured by Car-O-Liner, a Swedish company) is a computer measuring system that puts the vehicle back into company specs, no matter what vehicle it is, car or truck, foreign or domestic. This equipment is state of the art, costing over $100,000. In both locations, it ensures the car leaves Jet’s fixed and in showroom, new car specifications. In addition to this, they have $80,000 of frame equipment and also a new resistance welder. This new I-Spot ($24,000) welder is programmable for different manufacturers’ specifications and can weld boron steel, for instance, which is on many of the new cars. They have spent a lot to insure that they can get a person’s vehicle back to the condition it was in before a collision. The Kinderhook location has 9 working bays and 2 wash bays. Downdraft booth from Italy, Car-O-Liner technology and they are spraying envirobase paint, which is water borne, to ensure a great match and environmentally friendly. All paint is 100% guaranteed. The ultimate goal is to have your vehicle restored to pre-accident condition. Every part of collision repair is extremely specific & all details down to the finishing touches are a source of pride for the Jet’s family. Baking the new paint on for 35 minutes to cure it in their newer technology paint booth, instead of the usual cross-draft procedures of old. The air is directed from the ceiling into the pit and gives a much better finish to the vehicles. Jeff and his crew want every owner to walk out of their shop pleased with the results of their repair.
Jet’s work is of the highest quality and their owner and employees are of the highest integrity. I highly recommend Jet's for all your auto body needs. Bill Scheitinger, General Manager, Kinderhook Toyota
Jeff lives locally with his four legged kids”Ziggy and Zoe. He gives credit to his employees and managers for Jet’s continued success and growth. Jeff insists that the “team” is what Jet’s Truck & Auto Body is about (see photos below of Jeff and the crew). Brian Duffy from New Lebanon has been with Jet’s almost since its beginnings, and now manages the Nassau location. George Catanzano is the General Manager in Kinderhook. Jet’s is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, but will always take later or weekend hours when necessary to accommodate your needs. If you are involved in an accident, of course your first calls will be to your car insurance & the police. Please keep in mind that you have a choice of where you want your vehicle to be repaired, by law, and you are not required to just take it or have it taken to the closest garage, a dealership, or any specific location the insurance company recommends. Now is the time to put the phone numbers in your phone and keep them handy in case of a collision. Jeff thanks the community for their patronage throughout the past 32 years. and looks forward to meeting many new customers. What kind of services do estate sale/liquidators offer? What questions should i ask When securing their services? By Maria ruggiero, oWner
of
reclaiMing Mia & co.
The services provided by Estate Sale Professionals can vary. Most of us are familiar with the traditional estate sale performed when someone passes away and the family hires a professional to conduct an estate sale at the home. This is still the most common service offered by most companies. Times are changing and many people are looking for a professional to help them with liquidating their own items due to varied circumstances, such as: downsizing, moving and needing to stage their home, seniors who don’t want to leave their children with the daunting responsibility of selling their items, needing to liquidate items in a different location than the home. The reasons go on and on but the questions that are important to ask the estate liquidating professional remain the same: 1.Insurance? This is seemingly obvious but many estate sale companies do not have insurance. You want to be sure that you are not liable for anyone getting hurt at a sale in your home. If it is an off-site estate sale, be sure the estate company has insurance on your items. 2.Advertising? How does the company advertise your sale? Do they use print, social media, email lists etc? The more avenues used to spread the word about your sale, the more successful it will be. 3.How does the estate company get paid? Most companies have a percentage fee based on the items sold. Be sure to ask about any other fees that may be applied that are not as obvious. 4.Does the company have a written contract? This is very important as it spells out in writing exactly what services you are agreeing to as well as the fees involved throughout the process. 5.Does the company have the option to have your sale in an offsite location? Due to the demand for liquidation of assets outside of the traditional home sale, for reasons stated above, hiring a company that offers a secure, centrally located sales venue is a great option for customers. Many who have often had to choose between having a traditional auction company come in and take only certain merchandise, with no control over pricing, to having to liquidate their possessions through donation, the off-site option is the answer.

6.Does the company accept credit cards? Sales are always higher when customers can use their plastic to purchase items. 7.What happens after the sale? How is the monies owed paid and how soon after the sale can I expect them? This is an important question, most companies will stipulate this in their contract. 8.References? Never feel funny about asking an estate liquidator to furnish references. No matter the reason, this is a transitional time and you want to be sure to hire a seller who has references that attest to performance, communication and honesty.

4 Things Agents Consider When Setting Listing Prices By Cathy Graziano
There is no online calculator for setting the perfect listing price for your home. It takes experience, market savvy, and even a bit of psychology. A strong listing agent can help you set the right, most competitive price for your home. Here are a few things they might look at: 1. THE COMPETITION Your agent will look at the prices of similar homes in your area that either are currently listed or sold during the past few months. They will take into account how many days the properties were on the market and how the listing prices for those homes differed from the final sale prices. 2. MARKET TRENDS What’s affecting the market in your neighborhood, and your region? Your agent will consider national factors that shape the real estate market, such as possible rising interest rates, as well as local factors, like whether the average home price in your neighborhood has been rising or falling. They’ll also think about things such as new companies moving to the area in the near future, or plans for improving local amenities, like parks and shopping districts. All can increase the value of your home to a buyer. 3. YOUR NEIGHBORS Although a home the same size and age recently sold for a high price, your own place might not fetch the exact same fortune if, say, junky cars continue to proliferate in your neighbor’s driveway. On the flipside, if the grass is in fact greener on the other side of the fence, your home’s value may be higher due to your neighbors’ curb appeal.
Advertising & Community Events
4. THE GOLDILOCKS PRICE
Deadline is JUNE 17th for the JULY Issue Call Jennifer Felts at 518-380-1279 • felts66@yahoo.com Our Towne Magazine “Connecting the Community”
Listing your home at a price that’s “just right” from the start is critical to selling it quickly, for the best price. Overpricing your home, and then dropping the price a few times while it sits on the market, could lead to a lower final sales price than if the home was priced appropriately from the beginning. And, of course, setting a price that is too low leaves money on the table. Wondering how much your home might be worth in today’s market. I can explain how these and other considerations could factor into a pricing strategy for your home

Dear Readers, Over the past month I have gone through a great personal transformation that has left me feeling healthier and more energetic than I have in years. After reading about cleanses and detox programs, I thought about how many chemicals and altered foods (Genetically Modified Foods) I chose to put in my own body. I thought about it; but was not ready to give up my sugary artificial coffee creamers, beloved 3-5 Diet Cokes a day, potato chips and dare I say, my evening glass of wine. It wasn't until that dark day in March when I was trying to try on my summer clothing, that it hit me. It was a NEON sign realization...my historically fast metabolism and “skinny” self was no longer looking back at me in the full length mirror. I knew once I hit 40 things would change. Change they have. Was I overweight? No. But I was certainly changing and moving in that direction. And then I realized it: CHANGE is what I needed to do if I was going to slow down this process. Coincidentally, I was creating the April advertisement for PURIUM and Top Form As I was typing, I was realizing this is the kind of cleanse that I needed to do. The idea of breaking my chemical habits, cravings/addictions and re-set my metabolism in just 10 days seemed too good to be true. As I researched The 10 Day Transformation, I knew that I had to try it. Shed weight. Burn fat. Balance hormones. Build muscle. Detox my body, and yes, re-set my metabolism. I was sold. I ordered my PURIUM through Monika and Ron Annis at Top Form. They have done extensive research into this product and endorse it because it is simply a healthy, 100% organic way to achieve weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. No GMO, synthetic chemicals or artificial ingredients. It was time for me to finally be all natural and make my health a priority. My family was scared. They didn't think I could do it. They didn't think that they could live with me through it. Ten days. Strict diet. No soda, coffee, alcohol, meat, chips, candy,etc.... And you know what? I didn't think I could do it. But that 43 year old person looking back at me in the mirror with the shorts that wouldn't button motivated me to invest in myself and make a change. It has been a full month since I took on The 10 Day Transformation. I have never felt healthier, more energetic, lighter (yes, I lost 6 lbs and am gaining muscle every day). I am no longer addicted to sugar and caffeine. I have less headaches, and NO MORE HOT FLASHES (Yes, I was already getting hot flashes). I am sleeping better and my skin is glowing. The best part was that I didn't have any feelings of withdrawal or even feel hungry. And yes, the shorts fit again; because you lose the fat in your midsection first. And there isn’t any soda in my house, either. I had to share my story. Why? Because I feel great. This product is a game changer; and is GOOD FOR YOU. There is even a 60 day money back guarantee. If you are interested in finding out more about PURIUM, there is a "Healthy Happy Hour" at Top Form in East Greenbush on Tuesday, June 7th from 7-7:45. Call 518-477-2700 to reserve your spot.

One of the most popular restaurants in our area is The Towne Tavern, located in Averill Park. I recently shared one of their Facebook posts on my Our Towne Magazine Facebook page. Within a few days the post had reached over 6,400 people! I had to know more. What is it about this place that prompted so many people to LIKE, COMMENT & SHARE my very simple post promoting the restaurant. So, right from the mouth of Larry Dickinson, Owner of The Towne Tavern, he answered some basic questions for me that I would like to share with you.
Q. How and why did you get into the restaurant business? What was the motivation? Answer: My wife Lorraine and I used to joke that she needed a job... The “dream” of The Towne Tavern began about twenty years ago. The “reality” of it began in 2003 when Marilyn’s Park Restaurant was purchased. This building was erected in the 1800’s and became Bart Warren’s Blacksmith. Before Marilyn purchased the building and business it was Hank’s Park Restaurant. The original Park Restaurant, that served German food, was owned by the Wimmer family and operated in Averill Park (next to Legenbauer’s, which eventually became home of the Castle family.) The Wimmer family moved the business to the present location. We decided it was the Town’s Tavern, a bit of history for all of us to enjoy and be proud of, thus the name. Our intention was to open using only the first floor, similar to the Park Restaurant. Once we started tearing out the floors, walls and ceiling and found all the beams and the framework of the building’s original intent – our dreams exploded! We started the business in 2005.
Q. Are you known for anything special? Answer: Our BBQ! We have a smoker on premise, and we use all local fruit hardwoods to smoke meats and cheeses. We specialize in smoked BBQ meats, including our Award Winning Wings, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Beef Brisket, Smoked Turkey, Half Chickens, and we even make our own Pastrami. Our Prime Rib Special on Friday and Saturday nights is impressive, even the "petite" cut. Other house favorites are definitely our pizzas, (we hand raise our own dough and make our own pizza sauce), and our burgers, (we use certified Angus Beef and hand pack our generous, half-pound patties). Q. What do you love most about the business? Answer: The staff. Everyone works hard, but we have a lot of fun together. Employees here become like family. Q. What do you think is your biggest challenge with the business? Answer: Also the staff! It is challenging to accommodate changes in availability from season to season, or when one of our employees leaves us to further their education, start a family or new career, or to move to a new area. There are so many things that can come up unexpectedly, and it is a challenge to run such a bustling restaurant without a full staff working together as a team.
Q. How are you different from other local restaurants? Answer: We make our food from scratch. All of our dressings and BBQ sauces are made in house. We roast our own Turkeys and Roast Beef, and of course we smoke our own BBQ meats and cheeses. We also have lots of delicious homemade desserts including Amaretto Bread Pudding, Carrot Cake, Pies, and seasonal Fruit Crisps.
Q. How do you get involved in the community? Answer: We support local schools, churches, other businesses, and families in need with donations to various fundraising events. We also support our local arts center, the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. This year we are participating in Kiwainis Summerfest at Butler Park.
Q. What do you want the community to know about you? Answer: Our slogan is Good Food, Good Times, Good Friends and we are thrilled to see new faces stop in for the first time to share this with. We are so thankful for our loyal customers who have made the restaurant so successful. We are open seven days a week for lunch at 11:30 am straight through dinner starting at 4. We have lunch and dinner specials every day. We have a lovely deck overlooking a creek for outdoor dining. We often have live music on Friday nights, and host Trivia the second and fourth Thursday of every month. The first weekend of every month we have Steak Night, with an excellent selection of hand-cut steaks. Our bar features 20 beers on draft with an enticing selection that is always changing. Whether you are stopping in for a cold drink or a hearty meal, we welcome you to our home away from home. The Towne Tavern is located at 2850 NY 43 Averill Park, New York. On the intersection of Routes 43 and 66. You can contact them at 518-674-3040 and get more information off of their website: www.thetownetavern.com. You can also follow them on FACEBOOK for specials and events.

Dr. Chris Raffo
"Swimmers Ear" is a term for an infection in the ear canal. It acquired this name because it is prone to people who swim due to moisture getting trapped in the ear canal and causing the skin of the canal to become infected. The ear canal is a dark area with little ventilation and is therefore the perfect environment for an infection to start. So the best way to prevent "swimmers ear" is to not allow water into the ear canal to begin with. This can be accomplished by wearing ear plugs or swimming headbands that help keep the ear canal dry. In drugstores there are silicone discs commonly known as Macs Molds that can be flattened and placed in the outer ear. You would not want to insert the silicone into the ear canal. So where this is a benefit it also can become dislodged while swimming defeating its purpose. On the other hand it is a good solution to keep the ear canals dry while showering. On a more fashionable note you can get custom swim plugs made to the shape of your ear that float and come in either flesh tone , a full array of colors or colorful swirl patterns. These are fashioned from an earmold impression that is done in our office and then sent to a lab for fabrication. These molds are much more secure while swimming and will better at remaining in the ear when doing activities such as diving or jumping off a raft into the water. Lastly there are water resistant headbands that fasten around the head and are held in place with Velcro , with a wider area on the band to cover your ears. If you are a swimmer, own a pool or just want to explore these various options to prevent "swimmers ear" this summer for yourself or family members let us know and we can help you find the right solution.

"Your Friendly Garbologist"
Home Cooking with Stephanie Daly Crock Pot Beef Stroganoff Ingredients: 2 pounds beef tips or stew meat 12 ounces white mushrooms, cleaned & sliced 2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic 1 1/2 cups beef broth 2 tablespoons red wine (optional) 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 2 tablespoons dried parsley (or 1/2 cup fresh parsley) 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 6 tablespoons flour 1 bay leaf 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 8 ounces sour cream Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste Egg noodles Directions: Step 1: Place beef, mushrooms, and garlic in crock pot. Step 2: In a medium bowl, mix together beef broth, red wine (if using), Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, thyme, and flour. Whisk mixture until flour is dissolved. Step 3: Pour into crock pot, add bay leaf & stir all ingredients until coated. Place lid on crock pot and cook for 8 to 10 hours on low (or 4 to 5 hours on high). Step 4: About 20 minutes before serving time, add cream cheese to crock pot and replace lid. After 10 minutes, stir warmed/softened cream cheese into sauce, pushing with the back of a spoon to break it up and incorporate it into sauce. Stir sour cream into sauce. (Add fresh parsley at this point as well, if using.) Replace lid and cook on low for a few more minutes until heated through. Step 5: In the meantime, boil egg noodles according to package directions. Remove bay leaf from stroganoff, taste, and add salt and pepper as desired. Serve over hot egg noodles and garnish with additional minced parsley, if desired. Other Suggestions or Ideas: If you do not have the beef broth, use 1 1/2 cups water plus 2 teaspoons organic bouillion beef base. You don't need to open a whole bottle of red wine just for the sake of this recipe. But if you already have a bottle open, or if you're going to be opening a bottle to drink with dinner, you can add an optional splash to this stroganoff and kick it up a notch! Instead of 2 tablespoons dried parsley, you may use 1/2 cup of fresh minced parsley, but add fresh herbs to the recipe at the same time as the sour cream as opposed to at the beginning of the recipe. The cream cheese makes the stroganoff sauce extra creamy, but you may leave it out if you prefer to make this dish lighter. Enjoy! Remember, visit us at our page https://www.facebook.com/groups/ crockpotrecipesathome/ for more yummy recipes! Thank you!

Firework Fun and Fear
Summer is a particularly great time for families and their pets and celebrating July 4th in the full sparkling glory of fireworks is the best. But Independence Day also brings dread for some families with dogs who cower and shake at the first colorful explosion. There are some things you can do to help your dog through this scary event. First, remember that fear does not have to be rational to us to be real to the dog. We know it’s only a harmless sound, but to the dog, the sound evokes intense fright much like we would feel facing a snarling mother bear protecting her cubs. With that empathy in mind, for some dogs, you can try to desensitize them in advance of the celebration by using recorded sounds playing at a low volume for several minutes. As long as the dog is calm and isn’t concerned about the sounds, give him tasty little treats. With repeated daily sessions, the dog will associate the sound with the pleasant activity of eating treats. If everything is going well after several sessions, turn the volume up slightly and continue feeding your dog treats. As long as your dog is calm and enjoying the treats while the sounds are playing, over a period of days (or weeks) you can gradually increase the volume until it is blaring. If your dog suddenly is more interested in the sounds than the food, turn the volume back down immediately. If you don’t have the time it takes to desensitize your dog, prepare him a safe, quiet place to stay during the firework extravaganza. Often a room like the basement or closet works well. Make sure he has soft bedding and a bone or peanut butter-stuffed Kong to keep his attention. You might also turn on a fan, radio or other white noise to help mask the fireworks. Some dogs will blindly flee when frightened, so, don’t let your dog run loose in your house while family and visitors are coming and going. Also be sure he is wearing identification, just in case he does slip outside. There are some products on the market that can be helpful. An anxiety wrap like a Thundershirt often helps anxious dogs. This tightfitting shirt maintains a constant pressure around the dog’s torso and for some dogs, it has a calming effect. There are also over-the-counter products, like Rescue Remedy, a calming herbal that is safe for most dogs as well as humans. Another product called a dog appeasing pheromone may be helpful. Adaptil makes a collar, spray and diffuser that can used be periodically or every day. While these products may not work for every dog, many experience some stress relief. If your dog suffers from paralyzing fear, talk to your veterinarian about your best options, including medication. While no one wants their pets on a prescribed medication, sometimes it’s the best alternative to keeping your dog safe both physically and emotionally. By Dr. Carolyn Sanford

It was raining when I woke up on the morning that would become my very last day as a college student. Classes had been over for days, senior week was over. The future was looming. We had attempted to make the “last” night feel just like any other night out, while clinging to the enormity of the situation. We spent that night cheering & toasting, hugging & crying, cramming as much reminiscing into those hours as we could. Taking photos that would have to be developed at a later time, hoping we captured the meaningful moments. We armed ourselves with slips of paper to get addresses and stay in touch forever. (yeah, no cell phones yet). Little did we know that, except for a few, most of us would lose touch, well until Facebook. It was pretty fuzzy that graduation morning, between last night’s margaritas & the HUGE cloud of denial that hung in the dampness like a fog. I was seriously avoiding the reality of what would happen in just a few hours, when my BFF’s moved on & out, and I’d be alone in our almost empty apartment with my cat. Instead, I focused on entertaining my family, trying to stay dry among several thousand graduates on a sopping wet football field and artfully avoiding the topic of “What will you do for the rest of your life?” It was hard to believe that 4 years had passed. 4 years, 5 majors, 2 apartments, 1 college love, and endless moments captured in my memory, and some well, intentionally forgotten. I had infinite optimism juxtaposed with the feeling of being thoroughly and totally clueless. Yes, I felt older and smarter, for sure. I made the best friends I thought I ever would, I experienced risks, challenges, failures and successes. I had many lonely moments yet never felt alone. I got A’s in some of the hardest classes and underperformed along the way, too. I met boys, listened to new music, pulled all nighters, and swore I’d never smoke another cigarette again. I ate endless ramen noodles, sold my clothes for extra spending cash and ran up my first credit card debt.

Sitting on that football field, I felt only mildly confident that it would all work out, well, as much as 21 year old with no job, no apartment, Mon-Fri 10-8, Sat 10-6, Sun 11-5 a soon to be long distance boyfriend and the new realization that student loan repayment started in a mere 6 months. I truthfully didn't even listen to the commencement speech at my own graduation (remember me sitting in a wet folding chair, being grumpy and depressed?) so I never heard the message, so I’ll paraphrase what hindsight has provided me and spread some words of wisdom. Graduates: Embrace this opportunity, with youth and time on your side. Respect yourself. You’ll make good and bad choices, so don't regret them just move on and learn from them. Don’t do anything that you couldn’t tell someone about (not that you have to tell, you’re allowed your privacy, but if you had to, you could). Decide what you want for now (believe me, this will change over time) and go for it but more importantly, decide what you don’t want. Develop your communication, customer service, and sales skills. No matter what you choose to do in life - be it an accountant, an artist, a blogger, or a nurse, (and especially a spouse or a parent) your skills will frame your success even though the context in which you use them is likely to change. Fear is very normal but let it help you grow, not stay the same. Start now saving for retirement because compounding makes all the difference. SMILE, ask for help, pay it forward, volunteer. Speak kindly to yourself, acknowledge all the things you do great instead of focusing on the things that you don't. Oh, and don't be afraid to tell someone they have something in their teeth, they’ll appreciate it. Congratulations to the Class of 2016. And if all else fails, open the umbrella and go to Grad School. Daryl Bart: University at Albany, BA 1989, MA 1991 dcbart1@gmail.com

St Onge Landscaping: Landscape Design & Construction In 1985, while studying business at Siena college, Aaron St. Onge started mowing lawns & building decks in the summers to make extra money. Little did he know that his business would grow into a successful career spanning 30 years. He is a local guy who graduated from Columbia HS and has always worked in some way since he was 11. His strong work ethic, creativity and extensive knowledge and experience allow him to make your dreams a reality. Aaron is traditional and quite simple in how he runs St. Onge Landscaping & Design: Meet face to face with the customer, listen to their ideas and goals, share information with them based on his experience and expertise and make a plan that suits the customers budget and desired outcome. It is very important to have open communication through the process, as well. St. Onge Landscaping: Landscape Design & Construction offers the entire spectrum of home improvement. From creating custom outdoor living areas, to additions, bathrooms, kitchens & home remodels. St Onge Landscaping & Construction also will excavate your property, remove trees and provide drainage solutions. During the warm months, Aaron is looking to design & create outdoor solutions to improve your home's beauty and function. A recent customer, Marylou Cappellano offered Aaron the following reference based on her experience with him (see photos below of before & after): "Aaron has proven to be AMAZING. I had interviewed a half dozen prospective contractors and then I was referred to St. Onge Landscaping. Aaron took hours prior to starting the job going over details and plans with me so that I knew exactly what he was thinking and planning. He would meet with me throughout the project to discuss the progress and answer my questions. He was able to address issues with drainage, elevation, as well as space limitations. His artistic ability is wonderful. He finished the job with special unique artistic touches that went above and beyond my expectations. Because Aaron has the ability to do all aspects of the job and when he needs to, he has contractors he has worked with that will assist in the completion of the projects. He is able to meet deadlines. He was able to completely transform my space in 3 weeks. He kept the workspace clean, and free of debris. His advice about the care and maintenance was invaluable. I also need to mention that the cost of the project was extremely fair and reasonable. When you meet Aaron, you will know immediately that you do not need to interview anyone else for your project.

Word of Mouth By Joseph R. L apinski, D.D.S.
www.LapinskiDentaL.com Dear Dr. Lapinski: My Dentist recently told me that I don’t brush my teeth correctly. I’m almost 70 years old. How can I be doing it wrong? I know it is hard to believe, but I find that many of my patients brush their teeth incorrectly, or should I say not doing a job that is as effective as they could be doing to prevent decay, bad breath, sensitivity & improve their oral hygiene I recently saw checklist titled “8 common mistakes on brushing” that I thought was very thorough and I added my own commentary: 1.You are not brushing long enough. 2 minutes is recommended. I use an electronic toothbrush that times it for me. Most people that use a manual toothbrush do not brush for 2-3 minutes. Try timing yourself and see! 2.You Are Brushing Too Hard. Vigorous brushing, especially with an abrasive toothpaste (any kind of whitening toothpaste) is cause for gum recession & sensitivity. Harder is not better, or cleaner. In fact, the folks I see that “scrub” usually rush thru it too (see #1) 3.Stop using a hard bristled toothbrush. You should only use a soft bristled toothbrush. 4.Your Toothbrush is just too big! Try to choose a small to medium sized head so it can get into the smallest areas, especially around back teeth. 5.Technique. Your angle may be off. The most effective angle of the bristles to the teeth is 45 degrees. Then use a circular motion, and brush all surfaces of the teeth (Front, Top, Outside & Inside!) 6.Are you replacing your toothbrush frequently enough? It should be replaced approximately every 6 months or so. When the bristles get splayed, it’s time. If that happens to your toothbrush before 6 months you’re probably brush too hard (see #2) 7.Regular Brushing. You think skipping a brush here and there is ok. Nope. Just do it. Bacteria never sleeps, ever. 8.Floss! It isn’t optional. Flossing is EXTREMELY important. It may take time to make it a habit, but brushing & flossing go hand in hand. Yes, I know there are a few “lucky” folks that don’t have cavities or problems from not flossing (kind of like those few smokers that aren’t dead yet). I’d say many of my adult patients that don’t floss regularly have some stage of incurable gum disease and bone loss. It’s a pretty staggering number! As always, consult your dental professional about questions or concerns you may have. We can’t help you address issues if we don’t know about them. Forward any questions to me at DrJoe@LapinskiDental.com
