Melissa is bringing top quality Laser Hair Removal to Our Towne and has the style, credentials and experience to be a huge success. As a successful owner of 3 of the hottest NYC Laser Hair Removal Salons, Melissa wanted to bring Laser Hair Removal to the East Greenbush area. She is proud to bring Manhattan quality at affordable prices to her home town. How did she find her way back to Our Towne? When her sister-in-law, Kaleigh, mentioned that the salon she worked at was going to be sold, Melissa jumped at the chance to open a local Salon that would also offer Laser Hair Removal. After hearing from friends and family about the high prices in the area, she knew that she could deliver a more affordable option to the residents of Our Towne and the Capital District. She purchased the salon just a few months ago and it is a family business. She counts on her family to manage the salon during the week while she continues to run her NYC Beauty Centers. With a more modern Manhattan décor’ you can relax and enjoy the surroundings, a beverage and great conversation with her professional & friendly staff. Using the highest quality laser equipment by Candela, Melissa can safely remove your unwanted hair permanently. With each area needing about 6 sessions (packages include 6 sessions) over the period of a few months, you can be hair free by summer! With over 30,000 previous clients and a 5 star rating, she is the one to call. This service is certainly not just for women! Men can get their necks, backs, chest done... Did you know than anyone can perform laser hair removal in New York State? As a Licensed Esthetician, Certified Cosmetic Laser Specialist and NYS Certified Laser Safety Officer, she is certainly qualified to perform the highest quality Laser Hair Removal! Call Melissa for a consultation and start out 2015 with $200 off each zone package when you book by February 28, 2015. Her pricing is easy & straightforward. You can find the pricing at the salon, or on the website www.alwaysstylinny.com. Body areas are simply broken up into zones and priced at individual visits or packages of 6. She is also offering great discounts on all salon services. Hair, Nails, Waxing, Spray Tan, Facials... See advertisement above for details. WINTER 2015
Dear Our Towne readers, Happy New Year! By now the holidays are a distant memory and we can all start counting down the days until spring. Yes, I am one of those people who love a winter wonderland until January 1st. Then, once the decorations come down, I am ready for spring! Everything is so gray & bleak.... what can one do? Go to Florida for a vacation is typically my solution.... This Winter Issue is filled with articles about new Our Towne business owners, beauty, health, and wellness. From the benefits of massage, to a very easy method for quitting smoking. The long winter is a great time to plan your interior and exterior home projects. This issue is certainly dedicated to overall wellness, change and taking charge of life in the new year. Please remember to pick up a few extra non-perishable food items when you are shopping each week. Our local food pantries run low during the winter, when people have to spend more money to heat their homes. No person should have to choose heat over food. Unfortunately, that is the reality for some of our neighbors. If you don’t know where to bring them, e-mail me and I’ll direct you to one in your area. Please be sure to LIKE Our Towne Magazine Rensco on Facebook. I will keep you in the loop about community news, events and Our Towne Businesses ongoing promotions and special events. The next issue hits homes March 1st. Until then, stay safe & healthy! Thank you for reading Our Towne Magazine. Jennifer

Sometimes 'DIY'By is not the best option! Tom Kubiak Accutax Income Tax Services Many people enjoy taking on the challenege of 'Do It Yourself' projects. Large companies (like Home Depot and Lowe's) cater to DIYers, and entire TV networks revolve around shows devoted to the passion. Although there is a definite benefit to doing many tasks yourself, there are some things that should be left to professionals, and we feel tax preparation should be in that category. Not everyone has a complicated tax return, and honestly many of these returns could be prepared with an 'off the shelf' software package or web service. But the problems with that option become very evident when facing life changes, difficult financial decisions or worst of all – contact by the IRS or New York State. Who can you call when you need help making a financial decision or in dealing with a letter from the IRS? Additionally, it is well publicized that the popular tax software packages can easily result in tax returns that are far from accurate. Even very educated people often make mistakes on their returns. For instance Timothy Geithner, a previous Secreatry of the Treasury (and technically the CEO of the IRS) prepared his return incorrectly when using Turbo Tax and only realized it when he was audited several years later. That mistake cost him almost $ 45,000 in back taxes, interst and penalties. So if even the Secretary of the Treasury prepared his return wrong using a tax software – is it worth taking the risk yourself? Rather than spending the time trying to wade through the tax laws yourself – give Owlview Accounting a call. While we are baking you a fresh cookie - our team of tax specialists will be glad to help you wade through the complex tax laws and take advantage of every benefit you should receive. Feel free to bring a copy of your return from last year and let us look it over – we may find changes that can be made to save you money. Our prices are often not much more than you would pay to use tax software. Additionally, we are proud to say that our advise is free all year for our clients – we are happy to help with any decisions you are facing such as starting a business, retirement accounts and even personal finance. Feel free to call our office at 732-4010 and schedule an appointment at your convenience, or just stop into our new office at the corner of 9 & 20 – we would be happy to give you a tour of our 'DIY' renovated property!

“I have helped hundreds of local people change their life and quit smoking! Come be my next success story! If you don’t believe me, I have plenty of references from prior smokers. Call today and take charge of your future!”
Why You Can Quit Smoking in 2015 BY SUZY REDHEAD 518-788-1414 In 1998, something happened that changed our lives. My www.t-bconstruction.com husband, who had tried to quit many times, decided to try )XOO\ ,QVXUHG )UHH (VWLPDWHV something different. He was a smoking heavy smoker; 3 packs a day for 35 years. When he tried other ways to quit smoking, it was very stressful for the entire family. At one point, I actually wanted him to start smoking again! Does this sound familiar to you? We felt so lucky when we heard about a new laser therapy that had a 85-90 percent success rate. He wanted to quit desperately and gave it a try. We were both amazed at the results. After just one treatment in 1998, he not only stopped smoking, but he was able to stop without the awful stress we had experienced in his many other attempts. This not only changed his life, but mine as well. I decided right then and there that I wanted to get the education and training needed to help others conquer this powerful and highly addicting enemy. Over the past 15 years, I have helped hundreds of people smoking. The vast majority of people with just one treatment. %DWKURRPV .LWFKHQV 6XQURRPV $GGLWLRQV quit My clients come from all walks of life with one thing in common: they were addicted to nicotine. All tried the many methods to quit 6LGLQJ 6FUHHQURRPV &XVWRP 'HVNV smoking, but none had worked. They all returned to smoking each time. 6HDPOHVV *XWWHUV 5RR¿QJ *DUDJHV Many of my clients have shared with me the various methods they used to quit before: the patches, pharmaceuticals, the gum, herbs. All had side effects that were unpleasant. They have shared stories of the loved ones who were affected in a negative manner because of anxiety issues and the stress that comes with quitting. Most of my clients had tried cold turkey, only to end up gaining weight, and then lighting up again to shed those pounds. The vast majority of my clients have smoked for over 10 years, with some of them for over 40 years. I have helped believers and non-believers alike. I have helped those who have given up hope, and have helped those who didn’t even want to quit but were doing it for a loved one. So, my question for you is: Why not try something that has a 85-90 percent success rate without any negative side effects? Did I mention that if you have Flex Spending, you can submit this as a medical expense? FREE BOOSTER is included, if needed for any reason within 6 months of your treatment! I take great pride in knowing that I had something to do with a person reaching their goal to stop smoking. Over the years it has warmed my heart to hear the testimonials, time and time again. They refer friends & family and promote cold laser therapy as the best method to quit smoking, once and for all! Read many on our website: www.smokefreetimes.com. However you can do it, please quit smoking for yourself and family. I look forward to speaking with you soon and helping you take control of this addiction and free yourself from cigarettes in 2015. WWW.LAPINSKIDENTAL.COM Happy New Year! It’s the beginning of a new year and so time for resolutions. Here is a short list that I think is worth adding to your list‌caring for your oral health. People always ask me “What is the best way to keep my mouth healthy?â€? I know from my 20+ years of experience that only a very small percentage of folks do these 3 simple things every day. TWO (2) minutes of gentle but thorough brushing twice a day. A soft toothbrush will clean your teeth well. An electric version, like Sonicare or Oral B, that is pressure sensitive, are excellent choices. I see a lot of damage done to teeth with aggressive brushing & harsh toothpastes. 7KH '5($'(' ) :25'ÂŤ )ORVVLQJ 7KHUH LV QR VXEVWLWXWH IRU Ă€RVVLQJ 7KHUH DUH PDQ\ GLIIHUHQW W\SHV WKLFNQHVVHV WR accommodate different mouths. INFANTS AND ELDERS: A GIFT OF LOVE By Dawn DuBois, LMT, Certified Compassionate TouchÂŽ Practitioner
We know babies need compassionate, nurturing touch to thrive. As Elders, it is not always known that we need the same. Gentle, Focused, Compassionate Touch Massage and Communication for Elders, seniors, chronically ill or in palliative care, those who are disabled, and those at end-stages-of-life is so important to the quality of one’s life. You can now bring this type of care to your loved ones. It is a gift of love, a gift of life. “Compassionate TouchÂŽ is a comprehensive approach that combines skilled human touch with a compassion therapeutic presence. The intention of Compassionate Touch is to improve quality of life for people living with the effect of aging, disease, or disability.â€? My work with the elderly, sick, disabled and the dying has become a heartfelt mission for me. I absolutely love bringing this type of communication and Compassionate Touch to these populations. I cherish my relationships with them. And I know inherently that giving them this part of myself, gives them a smile on their face, less pain in their body, an immense measure of “feeling betterâ€? that day, that hour, or that minute. “Serving this expanding population with nurturing compassion and care is my specialty. I use a set of learned techniques and skills, but more than that, I relate to each individual client and contribute to the quality of their life in some way that is both simple‌and profound.â€? Dawn DuBois, LMT, CTP Each moment I spend with these populations brings me further to the goal of helping with their day-to-day life in order to live in peace and grace. My methods of massage are always properly adapted for each individual. Special care is taken to address issues such as bone fragility, skin integrity, positioning, medications, and other points of concern that you, your family or doctors may have. Each session is fully customized for the individual to bring them the best care possible. Research indicates that social connection and touch is a key component to health and happiness in the elderly. I believe this also to be true in the disabled or palliative care populations. We are human beings‌from infant to elder. We all need comforting, Compassionate TouchÂŽ and caring communication.
Dawn DuBois, Licensed Massage Therapist, has been providing massage therapy to elders for many years. Her certification in Compassionate TouchÂŽ Massage and Communication has given her the expertise to give this very special type of massage. She can be reached at 518.727.8626 or email her at duboislmt@yahoo.com.

Our Towne Magazine welcomes Ron & Monika Annis (back) to the community as the new owners of Top Form East Greenbush. Ron & Monika are the creators & owners of the franchise Top Form, Inc with locations in Clifton Park, Delmar and in Saratoga in Fall 2015. They started the East Greenbush Top Form 9 years ago. Two years ago they sold Top Form East Greenbush, which they had always managed themselves. Their children, Daniel and Nicole, were to attend University in Sweden so the whole family returned to Monika’s home country. The last two years have been a terrific family adventure; the kids began college in Sweden, they enjoyed living near Monika’s family & started Top Form Sweden, AB. Now that the two children are settled in at college, they took advantage of the opportunity to return to Our Towne and purchase back Top Form East Greenbush. Ron & Monika are thrilled to see the Top Form family still coming and, “Living it.” Most of the Top Form clients are still here from when they owned/managed. As the original owners of Top Form, they have a “passion to bring health to their clients in Our Towne.” It is very important for them to change the attitude towards health, fitness & training. Monika mentions that Top Form has worked with individuals ranging from ages 8 up to 80. These people include Division 1 athletes, to senior citizens, physical and mentally challenged and everyone in between. “All of our members get the same attention.” From shedding excess pounds, to learning how to walk again, performing better, overcoming life’s obstacles or master daily living skills. “Some members have overcome great mental & physical challenges; and they continue with us on their rehabilitation journey to maintain strength and prevent future injury.” When asked how Top Form is different than other gyms in the areas, Ron points out that Top Form Inc. is a “Medically Oriented Community Performance Center.” It connects the worlds of Physical Therapy & Medicine to a healthy lifestyle. Monika says that clients “want to be inspired, reach their goals & feel amazing after a session at Top Form.” Ron observes that many gyms today focus on “bigger, faster & stronger.” Top Form focuses on proper movement & injury prevention. The training you do to prevent injuries is performance training at its highest level. Build a base then work your way up our training pyramid, one level at a time ensuring proper execution. Ron & Monika have trademarked the Top Form “Levels Program.” It is a goal orientated fitness program that is geared towards youth members. Very much like a Tae Qwon Do belt system, the Levels Program takes the member through physical & mental achievements. The member receives a manual and are educated, trained & challenged in the following areas: speed, strength, nutrition, power, flexibility, mental training, endurance, vision, agility and balance. You can go through the levels at your own pace; and receive a t-shirt when each level is completed. The program teaches the member the why behind the exercise, “education is empowerment,” states Ron. We empower our youth! At Top Form, the Personal Performance Trainers work directly with you throughout the process. They’re your own personal teachers, trainers & life coaches. If you need some motivation, encouragement and professional advice on how to reach your goals, Top Form is the place for you. Preventing and treating injury are a big part of the equation, as well. Whether the goal is weight loss, injury prevention or rehabilitation, athletic performance, strength training or maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the end result is always an increase in self-confidence and healthy habits for life. Our Staff: Josh Rivers, Master Trainer, Jackie Coyne, Rehabilitation Specialist, Shawn Gerkman, Trainer and New: Chris Faulkner, Master Trainer having originally started with Top Form. All our trainers have college degrees and have trained extensively under Owner Ron Annis. Fitness is their career and their life, they “Live it,” everyday! Ron & Monika invite you for your personalized evaluation & assessment. To set up your one hour complimentary evaluation, call 477-2700. They are conveniently located at 81 Miller Road, East Greenbush. For more information, visit the website: www.topformeastgreenbush.com

PET DENTAL CARE IS GOOD HEALTH SENSE FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH Research has shown 80% of pets develop dental disease by 3 years of age. Plaque and tartar in the mouth cause infection and pain. Studies have shown dental infection also affects internal body organs and pets with dental disease are at greater risk for heart, kidney and liver disease, much as people are. We can better control diabetic pets’ blood sugar if they do not have dental infection. Dogs have been used as a research model for human periodontal disease and the effects of dental disease are basically the same for pets and people. When pets eat food they collect microscopic food particles that mix with saliva and oral bacteria to form plaque. The plaque bacteria grow into a biofilm, a complex of bacteria very resistant to antibiotics. A thorough dental cleaning removing the plaque and tartar is the only way to reduce the bacterial biofilm and infection. We have certified dental care professionals. Dr. Thomas Phillips is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. He has taken advanced training and certification and performs both routine and advanced dental treatments to save healthy, functional teeth. He is assisted by Tina Patton, a Dental Technician specialist, one of three in New York state. Our goal is to save teeth that will be functional and pain-free. Unfortunately, many pets have teeth with advanced disease and abscesses which will need to be extracted. Early treatment and dental homecare are the best prevention for dental disease. All pets need to have general anesthesia to perform thorough treatments. Much of the tooth and tooth roots are under the gum line and dental x-rays are needed to evaluate the underlying bone. We use the same type of dental x-rays your dentist uses. Dogs and cats will not hold their head still or hold the x-ray sensor in their mouths. Anesthesia also allows us to clean all surfaces of the teeth, under the gum line without injuring the soft tissues, and probe the gum tissue for periodontal pockets just as your dentist does for you. Many people are concerned about anesthesia. There have been many advances in veterinary anesthesia and anesthesia monitoring that have greatly reduced the risks and allow us to perform the needed procedures. Blood screening before anesthesia allows us to see if there is internal disease that should be treated first. New EKG equipment or cardiac ultrasound can help evaluate if heart disease is present. Pets are maintained on IV fluids during the procedure to maintain blood pressure and heart and kidney blood flow just as we would have during a hospital procedure. We monitor oxygen, blood pressure, KKG and have special warming blankets to prevent hypothermia. Pets need dental care to prevent other diseases. Nassau Veterinary Clinic prides itself in providing excellence in dental care and having a dynamic certified team to provide it! For more information contact us at 518-766-2636. By Dr. Thomas Phillips Dr. Phillips is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and co-owner of Nassau Veterinary Clinic. He has a special interest in veterinary dental care, is certified and has advanced training.

Resolution #1 Daryl Bart dcbart1@gmail.com The last of the decorations are stored away, most of the pine needles are gone and the new calendar is up. Yup. Busy already and I haven’t even done any returns yet. The January reality has hit. Time for resolutions! I discuss goals and resolutions a lot in the fitness business. I don’t know about you but I pretty much make new resolutions every morning like "I’m gonna be so productive today" or "I’ll finish that book" or "I’ve gotta start waking up earlier” and of course "I’m going to eat better today". Every day is a do-over. So back in December, I got to thinking, What is my resolution? Even though my kids were bored by the 2nd hour of their vacation, I decided my official resolution was to carve out fun and unique opportunities to enjoy being with my family. In the hustle and bustle of life, those quality moments are often overshadowed with commitments, work, and oh yeah, sports. I don’t know about you, but raising athletic kids is its own Olympic event. All the tournaments, practices, Rec leagues, summer programs and pre season workout (when did those happen?) It’s a spinning wheel. I take the blame for being cynical about never ending sports. I’ve been dragged kicking and screaming (ok – not that dramatic) into this world of kids sports. I’m not really proud of my distracted behavior on the sidelines, but its hard for me to just sit and watch. With my resolution to make specific and intentional time together we planned a short skiing trip over the vacation. Skiing is one of the only activities that we can all do together, where we as parents aren’t spectators to them. There’s a lot of work involved in skiing. Like, packing the car to survive a trip to Antarctica, finding an affordable place to stay plus endure the complaints that yes, our teens will in fact have to share a pull-out, getting up early to dress like a Yeti in, and carry a silly amount of supplies to survive a day in the elements. I know. When I put it that way, I should probably rethink this, but we love it. We had fun. We survived. We rang in 2015 with no fanfare except for the clinking of water glasses, a game of Apples2Apples and were asleep by 10. The new year arrived & I did keep my first resolution. On the ride home it was made all the sweeter by my son hugging me and saying “Mom, this was a really fun time, thanks” I guess we’re not doing so bad after all. Hopefully my returns will go this smoothly!

There is no denying that purchasing a home is one of the biggest thrills of your life, but it can also quickly become overwhelming. While the home you choose may appear to be the perfect house, hiding underneath the dream could be serious unknown defects that can make your investment a costly one. Enter the home inspector. A home inspector performs a physical inspection of the structure and systems of your prospective home. This means that while you may love the beauty of the living room’s wood floors, your inspector can tell if the floor will truly last. The home inspection is an objective visual examination of the physical structure and systems of a home, from roof to foundation. The inspection will determine not only the condition of the home, but also help foresee any immediate unnecessary additional cost that may go unnoticed by the untrained eye. Home inspections start at around $300 depending on the size of the home, its age and overall condition. Its money well spent if you are serious about that particular property. According to the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI.org), the standard home inspector’s report will cover the condition of the home’s heating system; central air conditioning system (temperature permitting); interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement and structural components. Compare a home inspection to getting a physical from your doctor. When problems or symptoms of problems are found, the inspector may recommend further evaluation or remedies. A home inspection summarizes the condition of a property, points out the need for major repairs and identifies areas that may need attention in the near future. The inspection will show the positive and negative aspects of a home, as well as the maintenance that will be necessary to keep it in good shape. After an inspection, both parties have a much clearer understanding of the value and needs of the property. Before any sale is complete, you will need an inspection to look over the good, the bad and the ugly of what your new home really offers. Remember, even if a house needs repairs or has hidden problems, it should not always be the catalyst for getting out of a sale. No house is perfect and as long as you know ahead of time what needs to be done and can possibly change the purchase price based on the information, the home inspection will give you a great starter list of what needs to be done to really make moving in that much easier. Homebuyers are not the only people who can hire an Inspector. Home sellers also use inspectors to gain knowledge of the condition of their home before placing it on the market. Know the condition of your home and be better prepared to acknowledge or correct problems before placing a home on the market

TRASH TALK by Vince Coppola Scrappy New Year, Everyone! It seems like only a few days ago it was last year, doesn’t it? Time sure flies when you are having fun doing everything else besides organizing your life. Trust me, I know. There is a mound in the middle of my warehouse I call “The Pyramid”. It started during the holidays years ago as “The Christmas Mass” which was followed the next year by “The Gathering”. It then it quickly grew into “Gomer Pyle”, followed by “No Space Mountain” and “Mount Junkmore”. Finally I noticed giving it cute nicknames only seemed to make it larger, and madder. It is definitely easier to accumulate than to reduce. Every once in awhile I go into a house where there is just a car, 2 garbage cans and a rake in the garage and it looks…well… awesome! But mostly garages, basements, attics and storage sheds looks like 50 boxes full of games, clothes, old appliances and toys crashed into a rummage sale during a flea market at a going out of business sale. Thus, “The Pyramid” is born. I can actually see stuff from cleanouts we did 3 years ago in the center. I have my own excuses, I mean, it’s like I move 20 times a month, every month. I originally kept things because “I might need that someday”. This explains why I have 12 assorted boxes of wood matches, 11 cans of WD-40, 10 crates of extension cords and… a box full of Partridge Family albums. LESSON OF THE DAY: I, AM, NEVER, EVER, EVER, GOING, TO, NEED, ALL, THIS, STUFF!!! Initially this year I vowed a personal resolution to get MY house in order. For starters it would help if the word resolution didn’t have the syllable “lose” in it. Statistically only 8% of all New Year’s resolutions succeed…no one is sure if the numbers are exactly correct because the guy who said he would verify the data never got around to it. So instead I am going to make a Reso-Action™ to turn the “The Pyramid” into “De Void” (Hey, I’m Italian). Yes sir, I am going to commit in writing to making this happen. I am serious, people! Now all I have to do is start looking through…I mean, let me see, Ok…maybe I left one over here, no? OK, here’s one. Nope, not working, typical. No big deal, how about in this box? No…OK, start over, calm down, there has to be at least one, I mean, C’MON!!! Seriously??? Can I really not actually find at least one working pen?!?!?!

Beachbody Coach. What’s that? Is that a real job? By Daryl Bart That was the reaction from the family when I decided to start my new business a little over a year ago. On my own journey towards health and wellness, I found a company that allowed me to merge my “fitness enthusiastâ€? attitude, with my quest to improve our health through better food choices. In addition to seeing my own personal transformation results, I get to see those of the people I'm coaching. The best part? I love getting up to go to work everyday! Wow! A Beachbody Coach distributes workouts and nutrition products but most importantly we offer daily support. I’m changing lives, or I should say, helping others change their own lives by identifying habits to change. One day, one choice at a time, working toward a healthier life. Our mission as a company is to end the trend of obesity. We help people learn more about the food they are eating and that empowers them to make a change. Beachbody is best known for their lnfomercials. While channel surfing, you’ve probably seen our commercials for Insanity, P90X & 21 day fix. From the comfort of your couch, you’ve said, “I can totally do that!!!â€? Then you order in 3 easy payments and your box arrives. After a few weeks of the unopened box staring at you from the counter, you stow it away so you’re not reminded that you aren’t doing it. When you see the infomercial again, you say, “I should totally do that, it’s just 30 minutes a dayâ€? Alas, the box stays dusty. Sound familiar? Been there, done that! Like a lot of people, I didn’t know that I could have been supported and encouraged by a Beachbody Coach to help me make my goals a reality. That box you order has all of the tools – the workout, the food plan, and those motivating before & after testimonials‌..But the box doesn’t have ability to make you PUSH PLAY. Once you join my team and buy a Beachbody Challenge product, whether it’s T25, PIYO or Shakeology; you get ME as an added bonus. I’m your fitness buddy, your conscience, & your motivator. I’ll hold your hand and give you tough love at the same time. I can help you incorporate the healthy food plans that come with the workout so you can curb cravings, lose weight, & stay on the winding road that is your journey to a healthier you. I’ll remind you why you started and give you a pass when life gets in the way. No judgement. No guilt. I’m not an expert on health and fitness – but I do know what it is like to try and go it alone. I’ve personally benefitted from this type of accountability from my own Beachbody Coach. Are you ready to start your journey? Do you have goals to change the way to look, feel, the food you eat or feed your family? I’m certain I can help. You can find me on Facebook or dcbart1@gmail.com and I’m always happy to chat. I have private fitness/clean eating accountability groups that start every month.
