Dreams of an empire wafting through the ages: ageless beauty awaits only a kiss on the forehead to awaken its magical spells in the present age. In its new edition of the Empress Box, Chopard has immersed itself in the splendours of imperial Russia to create an exceptional watch mingling historical references with the cutting-edge skills characterising the watchmaking Manufacture and the in-house Haute Joaillerie ateliers. Illustrious inspiration celebrating the grandeur and the epic stature of the imperial spirit.

Audemars Piguet

The Carolina Bucci Limited edition Royal Oak frosted gold A REFLECTION ON CONTEMPORARY WOMEN The creative partnership of Audemars Piguet and Italian jewellery designer Carolina Bucci delivers another surprise with this eponymous 37mm limited edition Royal Oak in yellow gold. The shiny, silver-toned mirror, framed with the shimmering sparkle of a Frosted Gold case and bracelet, replaces the trademark “Tapisserie” Royal Oak dial. Described by its designer as “rebellious” in character, this is an attention-grabbing piece, made in the image of a contemporary woman: spontaneous, true-to-life and totally unapologetic. Carolina Bucci’s original 2016 Frosted Gold design celebrated 40 years of Royal Oak for women. With this limited edition of 300 pieces, her design evolves in new directions. For the first time, the “diamond dust” finish appears in yellow gold—the designer’s favourite version of this precious metal. There’s novelty in the packaging as well, with a mirrored box bearing a Frosted Gold AP insignia. This mirrored box is also designed by Carolina Bucci, who believes in pulling out luxury watch packaging from the back of the closet to put it on display.

“For me, Royal Oak is the watch. I wear it all the time; it’s part of my style, my signature.”

Above all, being almost without precedent in the annals of the Manufacture, this mirrored dial is stunning. Carolina Bucci explains her inspiration with a certain, yet unexpected, creative logic: “With the first Frosted Gold design, I took the perfection of the Royal Oak case and bracelet and ‘roughed them up’ a little, juxtaposing the perfectly imperfect Florentine finish with Swiss watchmaking precision. Now I’m doing the opposite, taking the textured surface of the ‘Tapisserie’ dial and flattening it out into a perfectly smooth mirror. The motive for both is to create something interesting and unpredictable. It’s a fresh take on an icon made in the image of a contemporary woman. I know women with a great eye for keynote accessories who are going to love this. The mirror is always interacting with its environment, ever-changing according to what clothes you’re wearing, the décor of the room, the lighting, the time of day, the weather.” It’s a creation that has come with technical challenges. The mirrored dial is the most unforgiving component; only perfection will do. Carolina’s complete satisfaction with the result, which, has surpassed her own expectations, is testament to the Manufacture’s rigorous quality control, Carolina being known for her eagle eye and uncompromising standards. Chairwoman of Audemars Piguet’s Board of Directors, Jasmine Audemars is an established fan of Frosted Gold and has been wearing the first edition 37mm selfwinding model since 2016. For her, “the creativity behind the Frosted Gold watch is simply amazing. It is both art and a very high level of technology. With Carolina Bucci, we created a kind of masterpiece.” She sees the new limited edition with its mirrored dial as “the final touch:” “It’s unique and fun. Who needs a selfie when you can look at yourself in your watch?”

DE GRISOGONO WATCHMAKING IN THE FEMININE MODE, JEWELRY NAMED DESIRE Sensual and original, sophisticated yet spontaneous, rebellious, dainty, daring… Who really is the de GRISOGONO woman ? While she often proves elusive, one thing is for sure : her temperament has always proved an infinite fountain of inspiration for Fawaz Gruosi, founder of the Maison, who unveils over the seasons a range of jewelry and watch models driven by a passion for precious beauty and a distinct penchant for glamour. Since 1993, the Geneva-based creative designer has been

Such is definitely the case with the exceptional new Luna collection combining generous volumes, asymmetrical effects and harmonious aesthetics. model, creating a wax prototype, modeling the supple material to achieve the closest possible embodiment of the sketch. Beneath the gemsetter’s skilled fingers, the voluptuous curves of the Luna watch come to life in a burst of light. Shade by shade, diameter by diameter, the artisan alternates between traditional, bezel and snow setting techniques. The case of the watch is adorned with a traditional setting and a random bezel setting, while the dial is graced with a form of snow setting specific to de GRISOGONO. On the workbench, a generous 4.7mm-diameter diamond is placed at 6 o’clock where it sparkles in exultant splendor. Accentuating the rounded shapes of the watch, the stones wind their way around the bezel, hugging the curves of this model. This complex rail setting features baguette-cut gems almost vertically set so as to follow the strongly cambered shape of the upper part. For the snow setting, the gemsetter adroitly combines stones of more than 35 diameters, a free-spirited technique creating a unique composition. orous approach to the art. A gem of a watch or a jewelry watch ? Defining the nature of this creation distilling the entire range of de GRISGONO signature codes for the past 20 years is no easy task. Exuding a unique style and a boldly proclaimed non-conformist design, the aesthetic strength of Eccentrica lies in a succession of off-centered circles of varying diameters composing its silhouette. The delightfully rounded curves of this watch shine in the light of diamonds, creating a mesmerizing depth effect. An extravagant design enhanced by a gemset dial on which time appears to be shaken up by the Arabic numerals placed around the beveled inner bezel ring. This asymmetrical architecture is given an original twist by a number of details highlighting the brand’s cherished design codes, including a subtle diamond setting, the presence of a black diamond delicately set on the crown, as well as a white galuchat strap. As Fawaz Gruosi puts it : “Creative design is about constantly reinventing oneself while remaining true to one’s identity. Preciously safeguarding the attributes of a distinctive and authentic character. Creating the unexpected, springing surprises. Introducing visual novelty while instilling a deep sense of continuity and consistency.” An apt expression of this inexhaustible creativity that has been a dream for countless women since 1993.

The absolute master of creations featuring generous volumes and sensual curves, at once airy,

flowing and subtly mobile, Fawaz Gruosi loves playing with joyful spirals, interlacing gold, graceful undulations, teardrops and delightful cabochons cut from stones. He draws inspiration from the natural beauty of women and the elements. Inspiration muses that are the lifeblood of this infinite passion for creative design. In designing the generous and sensual Lovivi, a symbol of life and eternal love, Fawaz Gruosi simply looked to his daughter Violetta. Named after a contracted blend of “Love” and “Vivi”, Violetta’s nickname, this watch vividly embodies the in-house jewelry expertise. Its shape first and foremost reproduces the symbol of infinity, an endless curve. Round and generous, borne by interlacing bands evoking eternity, it reflects an image of perfection. The choice of materials is particularly important, featuring materials as original as

fossilized mammoth ivory, Tondo black jet or amber, as well as a mineral considered to be one of the most sacred : turquoise. A true cuff model to be worn as a bracelet and not simply as a watch, Lovivi perfectly combines the Maison’s two worlds – jewelry and watchmaking – with its rectangular dial featuring softened lines, its contrasts, and its generous size. The complexity of the watch and the specific nature of the gems chosen call for around four days of work to sculpt the stone and about three days for gemsetting. The bracelet is carved from a single block of stone. This complex, lengthy process endows the watch with the status of authentic work of art and one-of-a-kind creation. Once shaped, the bracelet can be adjusted by means of an ingenious clasp system. An anthem to absolute roundness and sensual curves, this precious line cleverly combining glamorous design and technical watchmaking also comes in a Tondo By Night version to light up the night with inimitable elegance. To create this model, de GRISOGONO collaborated with an external laboratory in developing the “Pearly photoluminescent composite fiberglass” (PLF). This innovative and exclusive luminescent material used for the case and buckle has been lab-tested so as to ensure perfect user-friendliness. Glowing like the colors of summer, the collection comes in white, yellow, pink, green, purple and orange shades. Created from 14k solid gold, genuine diamonds and gemstones, this exquisite jewellery label is inspired by Founder and Designer Jacquie Aiche, who blends her Egyptian Native American heritage into the brand’s creations. Designed for the rebellious woman who lives for ‘diamond details and sensual layers’, each adornment is intended to bring ‘beauty and positive energy’ to its beholder.

Working directly with miners to hand select each and every precious

Designed and handcrafted in Aiche’s Los Angeles studio, the brand continues

to be shaped by its founding philosophy of “spreading positive energy, every day”. Crediting the brand’s distinct style to the unique tapestry of Aiche’s

blended cultural background, the designer says she channels her ethnic roots through the sacred aesthetic of her full range of pieces, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, body jewellery and anklets.

«My Native American heritage pulls me towards turquoise, fossils and precious gemstones, while my Egyptian roots influence the use of Middle Eastern nuances such as hammered gold, goddess imagery and amulet pieces.» 72

The jewellery can be bought online at www.jacquieaiche.com and in over 40 prestigious retailers across the world.

‘Created for those who adore to be adorned, lovers of precious stones, believers

in the energy of minerals, and women who live for their diamond details and sensual layers’, the brand’s growing list of Hollywood converts speaks for itself. In 2011, Aiche designed a one off bespoke engagement ring for then-fiance of

John Legend, Chrissy Teigen. Further, Rihanna was such a huge fan of Aiche’s

designs that she even collaborated with the brand to launch a line of jewellery inspired body art in 2015.

Aiche first launched the brand over a decade ago after a lifelong fascination

with the healing power of stones, fuelled also by personal frustrations toward the

limited styles of fine jewellery available on the market at that time. A far cry from her childhood days of painting and gifting stones to friends and family, Aiche

has since translated creative expression through stones into an internationally acclaimed fine jewellery label adorned by the celebrities and VIPs alike.

Aiche says she believes a woman’s natural beauty can be illuminated with the

right piece of jewellery, and that will always be her mission, “I want to create pieces that will make every woman look and feel uniquely beautiful. Traditional,

classical jewellery is amazing, but it’s just not me. I’ve always had a very wild and spiritual nature. I think that rebellious spirit to constantly shake things up

is what differentiates me as a designer. I create pieces for those who adore to be adorned, lovers of precious stones, believers in the energy of minerals.”

CHANEL Established as a couture House in Paris in 1910, Chanel’s development over the decades has transformed it into the luxury powerhouse of jewellery, watches, fashion, and perfumes that we know today. Great creative talents and masterful skills, along with the regular use of codes based upon the life of founder Gabrielle Chanel, have crafted a strong identity of Parisian chic.

NO-ONE KNEW PLACE VENDÔME as well as ‘Coco’ Chanel. With her fashion house located just behind it at 31 rue Cambon, she was a frequent guest at the Place’s Ritz Hotel, eventually moving in to live there, from 1937 until 1971, in her personally decorated suite overlooking the beautiful, octagonal-shaped Place Vendôme. In 1921, when she launched her first perfume: Chanel N° 5 -- she chose the 5th proposal and the name stayed -- the bottle had rounded shoulders and the stopper was a small glass plug. By 1924 the redesigned bottle had square, faceted corners, and the stopper had already acquired its now signature octagonal shape, inspired by the Place so dear to Mademoiselle. CHANEL TIMEPIECES FOR LADIES.

Many years later, when in 1987 the House of Chanel presented its first watch exclusively for ladies, very logically named the ‘Première’, it boasted the same octagonal shape. Since then the ‘Première’ has enjoyed a variety of case materials, proportions, sizes, dials, stone settings, bracelets, straps, even the movement that runs it. This year the “Première” celebrates its 30th anniversary with new models that include the superb ‘Première Camélia Skeleton Watch’ in white gold with a skeleton movement in the form of a camellia. In addition to the octagonal shape of the case, the watch recalls two more Chanel codes: the movement is black -- one of Mademoiselle’s favourite colours, and the camellia was her preferred flower. Different versions exist: one is fully set with diamonds on the movement, case, bezel, and crown, with a choice of fully-set bracelet or black satin strap with diamond-set buckle, while a second model, also with black satin strap and diamond buckle, is set with diamonds on the case, bezel, crown, and hands to show off the deep black movement seen through the dial. Logically named Caliber 2, this second in-house movement is designed and made at the Chanel Swiss Manufacture. Mechanical with manual winding, it has functions of hours and minutes, and a power reserve of 48 hours.

Terribly chic and easy to wear during the day is the newly released “Code Coco” watch. Inspired by the iconic “2.55” bag launched in February 1955 (thus the name), the beautifully supple metal bracelet resembling the quilted texture of the bag wraps around your wrist and is locked into place with a click (like the bag). The “bezel” end of the bracelet is positioned on top of the case that features 2 black lacquered dials, with one showing the hours and minutes while the other is set with a white diamond. A “clasp” resembling the famous “Mademoiselle Lock” on the “2.55” can be left open or closed, to hide or reveal the time. Two versions in stainless steel are proposed, one of them is set with 52 diamonds on the bezel. A stunning third version in 18K white gold is totally set with diamonds, limited to 5 pieces. All are equipped with a high precision quartz movement.

JEWELLERY

Diamonds were Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite stones, and the Chanel Fine Jewellery “Coco Avant Chanel” collection presented earlier this year makes a celebration of them. Diamond necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, rings, and even watches, sometimes interspersed with sapphires and pearls, compose a collection of mostly one-of-a-kind pieces. Shown here is the sumptuous “Gabrielle Chanel” necklace in 18K white gold set with a pear-cut diamond of 10,02 carats, 2 round-cut diamonds for a total weight of 0,71 carat and 1581 brilliant-cut diamonds for a total weight of 51,22 carats. More recently, the just released Gallery Collection is composed of jewellery sculpted in yellow gold. Once again, the octagon comes to life in these colourful creations named “My Red”, “My Green”, or “My Yellow” that respectively take on shades of red ceramic, malachite and tourmalines, or yellow gold with diamonds. “My Chain” brings together the iconic Chanel 2.55 bag chain along with the octagonal shape as seen with this 18K yellow gold bracelet set with rutilated smoky quartz and diamonds. Rings and a necklace complete this line.

CHANEL BAGS

Handbag or shoulder bag? The famous Chanel 2.55 is a shoulder bag designed by Coco Chanel to leave your hands free.

Practical,

beautiful, strong and light, in quilted leather with a gold chain, closed with a lock on the front flap, the original model has been reinterpreted in many versions with different materials, sizes, and colours. Yet like all Chanel creations, the codes make it recognizable at a glance. If this dark grey model with the original “Mademoiselle Lock” is a classic “sans faute”, the black leather 11.12 model with herringbone pattern and “CC” clasp rocks the codes while bearing a strong family resemblance. Both are from the latest collection. For more casual wear, “Gabrielle” bags such as this model in silver metallized leather will protect all your precious documents, electronic devices and other daily needs with true Parisian chic.

n January 2018, Vacheron Constantin unveiled its Fiftysix® collection in the form of three new models (Self-winding, Day-Date and Complete

Calendar), representing the first notes of a new musical score. The

cadence is now picking up with a new reference: Fiftysix® Tourbillon.

Its September 11th 2018 launch at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios is an opportunity for the Maison to announce an exclusive partnership with this

legendary location in music history, where English song-artist Benjamin

Clementine, one of the faces of the Maison’s new advertising campaign, is giving a private concert to mark this occasion.

CRESCENDO APPASSIONATO – FIFTYSIX® TOURBILLON Beautifully slender at less than 6 mm thick and equipped with a 22-carat

gold peripheral rotor, the calibre of this model may be observed through

a transparent caseback revealing all the beauty of the mechanism with its refined ornamentation. The tourbillon alone called for over a dozen

hours of chamfering and other hand-crafted finishing operations. Like a metronome, its 2.5 Hz frequency provides a chance to follow its steady

beat, framed by a 41 mm-diameter case. On the two-tone opaline-sunburst dial, decoration plays an equally exceptional tune.

The most prestigious composition in the collection to date, the Fiftysix®

Tourbillon will be available exclusively from Vacheron Constantin boutiques as of April 2019.

THE TEMPO OF THE FIFTYSIX® COLLECTION The style of the Fiftysix® is a direct tribute to a watch created in 1956:

reference 6073. The distinctive design of this iconic model embodies the creativity of the Maison during the 1950s – a period representing the

golden age of watchmaking refinement, as well as the heyday of musical creativity. Round, slim and effortlessly elegant, reference 6073 is distinguished by its four lugs each representing a branch of the Maltese cross.

With its classic dial, daring case and avant-garde technical characteristics (it was at the time one of the first watches from the Manufacture to be

equipped with a self-winding movement and a water-resistant case), this 1956 watch wove ties between respect for tradition and a taste for innova-

tion. Ties deeply cherished by Vacheron Constantin and now expressed in the Fiftysix® collection picking up several features of the original model: lugs respectively forming one portion of the Maltese cross, a box-type crystal, as well as self-winding movements.

TIFFANY & CO. Presents its 2018 Blue Book Collection

A celebration of expertly crafted and extraordinary high jewelry

100 I GREAT MAGAZINE OF TIMEPIECES I MIDDLE EAST EDITION | LADIES WATCHES & JEWELLERIES

TIFFANY & CO. UNVEILS ITS 2018 BLUE BOOK COLLECTION: The Four Seasons of Tiffany, a bold expression of creativity, craftsmanship and innovation. Composed of five themes—

winter, spring, summer, autumn and color theory—the new

high jewelry collection draws inspiration from flora, fauna and the architectural complexity found in nature. With modern and

graphic shapes rendered with rare techniques and exceptional gemstones, the Tiffany Blue Book Collection is a discovery of

the unexpected. Each piece is a unique creation where visionary designs and the time-honored talent of Tiffany artisans combine

to create extravagant jewels that evoke dreams and defy possibilities.

“The Tiffany Blue Book Collection serves as a laboratory for

developing groundbreaking concepts that will one day make their way into new collections. It’s where our most creative,

experimental and innovative ideas begin,” says Reed Krakoff, chief artistic officer, Tiffany & Co.

Within the winter theme is one of the most exemplary designs,

the never-before-seen ice motif, which required the most skilled craftsmen to study the beauty of irregularity and render it in

diamonds. The illusion of ice was achieved by individually cutting each diamond into jagged, unique shapes that mimic an

iceberg adrift on a sea of platinum. A magnificent yet delicate necklace is composed of over 91 total carats of 237 uniquely cut diamonds that connect like an intricate puzzle.

“The idea of ice was more a suggestion of irregularity

and the seamlessness of ice when it’s cracked and

broken. We wanted to suggest the idea of these things rather than creating a representation of them,” says Krakoff, of the design process.

Another study in contrast and irregularity is a necklace

of linear diamonds set in platinum that’s made to look like frost. Created with baguette and round brilliant

diamonds, over 50 total carats, and rare Fancy Blue Gray and gray diamonds, over 13 total carats—this necklace is a textural display of bold geometry.

fluttery diamond encrusted moths contrast against the bold,

angular links and inspired by a 1940s tank chain. An 18k yellow gold bracelet anchors different size moths that appear

to be in flight or landing, allowing the natural pattern and movement of these creatures to give this classic chain a

modern update. The brilliance of these playful moths was

created with 1,115 round brilliant diamonds of over 6 carats and 23 marquise diamonds set in platinum.

Autumn reveals a lightness and interplay of gemstone colors and cuts.

Vines that sprout and blossom in tandem with nature’s cycle can be

seen in a stunning necklace where overlapping chains reveal a fern motif that emerges and gently unwinds down the back. This necklace’s

elegant silhouette creates a fluid line with mixed-cut diamonds is set in

platinum, including 9 marquise diamonds, over 5 total carats, 333 round

brilliant diamonds, over 5 total carats, and 85 diamond baguettes, over 21 total carats.

Equally impressive is the large and exquisite Melo Melo pearl of over

109 carats suspended from a custom-cut and round brilliant diamond

twisted necklace set in platinum. The chain tightens its twist upon reaching the pearl and appears to elegantly unravel around the neck. Of

key importance to this pearl is that the color remains orange over the entire surface. The 2018 Blue Book is brought full circle with the color theory theme, where color gradation ranges from intensely saturated

colored gemstones to white diamonds. Capturing the subtle shift in

palette of the four seasons theme, the designs echo a Pantone® color wheel and symbolize Tiffany’s heritage of sourcing the world’s rarest diamonds and colored gemstones of unsurpassed quality.

The utmost precision and attention to detail are required to express the

simplicity and complexity of nature, from the range of tonalities and intricate geometry to the masterful artistry of high jewelry. The 2018

Blue Book Collection embodies Tiffany’s passion for elevating the beauty of nature and reinterpreting it through the unparalleled craftsmanship that has defined the jewelry house since 1837.

VACHERON CONSTANTIN

and Abbey Road Studios on the same wavelength Synchronised excellence is the theme song for Vacheron Constantin and the legendary Abbey Road Studios, the venue chosen to celebrate the international launch of the Fiftysix® collection. Musical affinities and joint creative endeavours will be at the core of this partnership, based on common values entirely in tune with the new One of not Many communications campaign. As the world’s oldest watch manufacturer in continuous production since its founding, precise timekeeping is one of Vacheron Constantin’s very reasons for being since 1755. As the world’s most legendary recording studios, sound precision and innovation are Abbey Road Studios’ mission since 1931. Vacheron Constantin is proud to be performing a duet with the Abbey Road Studios, based on a musical score in which their virtuosity is fully expressed and will be steadily enriched over the coming months and years with further content and exchanges of expertise. This collaboration perfectly chimes with the new Vacheron Constantin communications campaign: One of not Many. The two Maisons are acknowledged experts in their respective fields, exceptions within their community, sharing the same values based on their passion, their expertise, as well as their perpetual quest for excellence through exploration, innovation and perpetual self-renewal.

The legendary London studios, which have rocked to the rhythms of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Kanye West and Nile Rodgers, as well as iconic movie scores from Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Harry Potter films to Black Panther and The Shape of Water, was a natural choice in which to celebrate the international launch of Fiftysix®: a collection with an urban, retro-contemporary and cosmopolitan spirit, beating to a modern tempo. To celebrate the creative partnership now uniting high watchmaking and legendary sound engineering, British composer and musical artist Benjamin Clementine, one of the faces gracing the One of not Many campaign, is giving an exclusive showcase in the studios, where he has also recorded a new track initiated and co-produced by Vacheron Constantin and Abbey Road Studios. “Music is a fantastic and universal driver of emotions, just like our watches. As we learned to know each other, Vacheron Constantin and Abbey Road Studios discovered that we share the same values of technical excellence, constant innovation and savoir-faire perpetuation, as well as a constant will to share and spread our passion” explains Louis Ferla, CEO of Vacheron Constantin. “As we keep expanding our footprint in the world of music, we could not dream of a better and more relevant partner than Abbey Road Studios; our association is more than natural and pre-empts infinite possibilities of creation and collaboration”.
