elcome to the latest edition of your favourite hippy mag! This issue we got to connect with writer and musician Wes Carr and learn about his more philosophical side. I was lucky enough to catch him at the Rhythm Hut in Gosford last year. The lovely Rita Balshaw, aside from cooking up a new little human, made time to nurture us with a delicious curry. Michelle, one of our Readers at Gnostic Forest, shares a little of her connection to India as she prepares to follow her bloodlines. As for me... I connected with a beautiful metaphor ‘The Open Hand’, contacted the author in the USA and discovered that he has indeed been to Woy Woy! What a strange and interconnected life this. We are all a part of the web of community (see Gypsy’s lovely article on page 11). Love to you all, wherever you connect. INTERVIEW

JOURNEY MAN

Since Wes Carr gained national recognition as 2008 winner of Australian Idol, he has forged his own path. He stopped by Gnostic Corner recently and we had a chat.

PHOTO: Lukas de Roo

“L

ast year I wrote and toured a one man show about George Harrison, his life and spirituality. It lined up with where I was at. He said ‘Who are you without change?’ It’s sad that people struggle not to change, and are in fact encouraged to stay the same. I think the role of an artist is to remind people that there’s more beyond chasing that illusion. I mean yeah, you have to survive and look after your children, but you don’t need to be a victim of this world. People can get an addiction to fear and pain – it can be very alluring. If you do it for 40 years those pathways become strong. You need to find some kind of practice which helps you find peace. Transcendental Meditation became that for me. It takes you to a whole different place – it’s like your mind has been through a car wash. It’s a great tool. For 5 years, I was doing it twice a day. Now there are times when I stop, but then I come running back to it.

Mainstream religion can be like that too. Some people pray and it’s great, that’s their meditation. Other people use it to start a war. Meditation and reading books on spirituality can make all the difference in your life. People like Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Anita Moorjani have been important to me. I’m working on a whole lot of different stuff these days – producing, writing, as well as performing. Last year Cold Chisel released a song of mine, Lost, which I wrote with Don Walker. Right now I’m preparing for a show called Rolling Thunder Vietnam which will be a national tour. I’m looking forward to that. I also run Spirit Sounds, where I coach people how to write songs and generally improve their craft. You need to create your own industry these days. Keep it interesting and fresh, and try not to freak out too much! I went to India and made a short film about the ashram in northern India where the Beatles G

stayed. We travelled through 6 cities in 12 days – I saw some amazing stuff and sad, horrific stuff. In India you see it all. Beggars and opulence co-existing. It’s confronting. Sound and music is very powerful. I’ve spent 25 years performing and seen strong reactions in audiences, whether you’re doing a major festival, or acoustic folk and blues. You see how people’s perception changes with the sound of a chord or a phrase. That’s why chanting is powerful because they’re ancient Vedic texts, thousands of years old, with dedicated sounds for different purposes. I think the biggest thing that holds people back from living their creative dreams is lack of self worth. They stand in their own way, stuck in a job or a marriage they don’t like. Then the easiest thing can be to blame everyone else for that. All I would say is that once you get clear in your mind, things start to happen. It’s about preparation. Find that zone where you are

ready to create. Like they say, Once you conquer yourself, you don’t have to conquer anything else.” Wes is performing at the Tweed Valley Country Roots Festival in October. See more www.wescarr.com.au

SEASONS This magical curry creation is the kind of dish that you eat and with every mouthful you actually feel its nourishing goodness caring for every cell in your entire body! Not surprisingly, this dish is a real Winter time hit! The spice blend Garam Masala in particular has been on the medical forefront; Garam Masala translates to “warm spice blend” and is renowned throughout India and Asia for its circulatory, blood cleansing and digestive benefits.

HocusPocus

This recipe is from Rita Balshaw’s new book Hippies in the City – Urban Remedies available at Gnostic Forest.

You’ll need: • 2 cans borlotti beans • 1 can diced tomatoes • 1 C tomato paste • 2 C water • 1 C sliced mushrooms • 2 C baby spinach leaves • 1 sliced white onion • 1 C frozen peas • 1 T crushed garlic • 1 T minced ginger • 1 C raisins • 3 T tamari soy sauce • 1 T Garam Masala powder • 1 T curry powder • 1 t sea salt • 1 t ground black pepper

In a large fry pan or deep saucepan start by gently frying off the onion, garlic and ginger. Now, add in all the remaining ingredients, reduce the heat and allow the curry to literally work its magic and simmer for about one hour. Serve this enchanted curry in a traditional clay pot or tagine and place in the centre of the dining table along with Garam Masala Yoghurt, a big bowl of brown rice and sweet potato mash that have all been garnished with fresh herbs and a sprinkle of turmeric powder. Deck out the kitchen table with colourful placemats, confetti and tea light candles. It’s a really cool idea to place a few little ceramic bowls on the table and fill them with various therapeutic culinary paraphernalia: cardamon pods, star anise, ginger root and cinnamon sticks, as this reinforces to your guests that the food you have cooked is actually medicine! TAKES A

VILLAGE…

by Gypsy Artemis

A

s a pregnant solo-mamma already with a spirited, amazing 5 year old daughter, the term “It takes a village to raise a child” is more than a little familiar to me. It may even have been my war-cry in those challenging first few years! However, as I “self cared” {AKA had a sneaky treat!} at the Mana Cafe before grabbing bubby from the school bus last week , I sat at the window seat watching the world go by. I witnessed an old Gnostic staff member wander in to the Forest to say “Hi”, and she received such a warm welcome of hugs and smiles in return. The love, joy and connection was palpable, even from across the street. The scene unfolding before me swiftly triggered me back into the “it takes a village” concept, only this time it was not in relation to ‘raising a child’. It was in relation to raising our very Selves! I realised that the Gnostic Corner, for many of us, has become part of our “village”. It has become a place where we know we will be received, not just as “customers” but as a vital member of our greater village. For many it is a place where we gravitate towards for a familiar smile, an empathetic look, a listening ear or an open heart, on a day that may be challenging us in ways we could not have imagined, or on a day where we are already feeling showered with blessings. Maybe it was all the sugar in my rather indulgent treat, but a cascade of thoughts and questions bombarded me thereafter. I had the realisation that it doesn’t take a village to raise only a child, it takes a village to survive, fully embrace and appreciate this roller coaster ride we call Life! The poet John Donne had it right when he said “No (wo)man is an island entire of itself; every (wo) man is a piece of the continent, part of the main”. Despite what we may like to think, we aren’t solitary creatures although we often do need and enjoy solitude. We are all interconnected and most of us have an innate desire and calling to connect with our fellow humans…with our other village members…in times of darkness as well as times of light. Just how we view “village” on a conscious and unconscious level may well differ from person

to person, as might the manner in which we get our “village fix”, but ultimately it seems we all feel the pull to build and maintain heartfelt connections with others. These connections, even if they started from a loving smile from a staff member on The Corner, a random encounter with a fellow customer, or a consciously sought out connection with an old or new friend, they not only sustain us, they build us. The spectrum of incredible Earthy experiences we have as we walk this beautiful planet, they mean little unless we share them with our loved ones, with our fellow village members. The pain of lessons hard learnt often seems pointless and even insurmountable at times unless we are able to find a human-to-human, heartto-heart and soul-to-soul connection to share them with. Similarly, Life’s most stunning gifts can feel meaningless when experienced alone. Our village…the people we rely on and trust enough to hold us in our vulnerability, to celebrate our wins, to call us on our crappy self-deprecating ways, the people who show up again and again in our lives…. they’re our “village”. If you have a moment, I invite you to consider who is in your village and how they gift you and enhance your life? And I dare you..DARE YOU… to commit to opening your heart and mind just a little wider, and letting just a few more villagers in! Want to expand your village and dive a little deeper? Gypsy offers monthly mixed gender, sacred circle gatherings here on the Coast. For more info check out www.facebook.com/ TheDeepeningCentralCoast/ G

SOULSPEAK

In the interests of sharing knowledge learned through experience (Gnosis) we interview people from all beliefs to share insights from their path. May we all learn and grow together in peace.

Owen maher Your religious/spiritual belief? Krishna (God) is the supreme personality of godhead and we are his eternal servants. God is personal, impersonal & localized within the hearts of all living beings. Our real place is not here in the material world, but in the spiritual world with Krishna (God). We are here because we have the foolish desire to enjoy things in separation from god, rather than in our proper relationship with him. Krishna consciousness is not a matter of belief. It can be tested and experienced. Therefore, it is a science, How have those beliefs set your foundation for life? Such beliefs create humbleness, it’s no longer

that’s mine or this person should do this or that. You begin to see yourself as a servant of god. In such a state, nothing is yours, and you’re continually serving God and others. Mother Teresa once said that the biggest problem upon this planet was not hunger of the stomach but hunger of the heart. This is due to a lack of Love. The reason the world lacks love is because we have forgotten our true position. And that is that everyone upon this planet is a servant of god, through serving god and other beings upon this planet we awaken our natural state. We all have a spark of god within our hearts, (Paramatma). And that doesn’t radiate its true beauty until one is cleansed. One’s heart is cleansed through The process of Bhakti Yoga, Which means employing the mind and senses in practical devotional service to the lord (God). And that means serving all, as god is within and around everything. There is nothing more beautiful than the souls loving relationship with God, it manifest as compassion, humbleness, and love. G

13

Along the path what were things or events that influenced you in a major way? I was living a life which was completely entangled within material nature. Living life in such a way leads to suffering. I finally had enough one day and begin my search with the help of my mother. I didn’t know what for, but it seemed as though I was being guided. I called it spiritual shock therapy, which is a spark going off within in your heart igniting a longing for truth, for GOD. Since that day I’ve been on a spiritual journey. Which spiritual teachers have inspired you? I’ve had many great teaches guide me over the years. All have been stepping stones along the path. I’m very grateful for everything I’ve learnt from Wayne Dyer and Neale Donald Walsch. Teachers inspiring me at this moment are His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Radhanath Swami.

G

14

Please share with us a short quote, lyrics, prayer or short teaching that has inspired you lately. May all beings be happy! Let’s pray to be an instrument of the lord’s love to show compassion to all living beings. It doesn’t matter which god you follow, what the colour your skin is, your sexuality or where you are from. What matters is how much love you have within your heart for other living beings. We all emanate from God, we are brother and sisters. Every day we should be looking for ways to serve god and all living beings. This is our true nature and is real wealth. What’s next for you? At the moment I’m living at New Govardhana community in Murwillumbah which is a Hare Krishna Farm. I’m building a solid spiritual foundation to live my life from. Only god knows what’s next for me. All are welcome to visit the farm. Chant and be happy.

YOGA

Are you a

peaceful warrior or a worrier?

A very basic desire of yoga practitioners is to get out of their head space and feel from the heart space. This sounds like a very simple concept but can be difficult to achieve.

A

s an experiment try focusing your thoughts exclusively on your breath for one minute. Nothing but breath! Disregard very other thought, feeling or sensation and remain focused on the breath. Could you do it? If you struggled with that simple example of mindfulness – don’t despair, you’re not alone. In these modern times we’re bombarded with an enormous amount of stimulus: TV, computers, phones, social media and advertising material all compete for your mind space. How often do you find yourself reliving some incident from your past, going over a conversation you may have had years before? How often do you find yourself stressing about the future, worrying and concerning yourself about an incident that hasn’t even happened and may never actually happen in reality? Your mind can manifest any scenario, negative or positive if you continually fuel it with unrealistic potential happenings. You can’t live in the past. It’s happened and can’t be erased. What you can do is to learn from it but no amount of reliving your past will change it. You can’t live in the future because it hasn’t happened. It’s great to plan and set goals but you can’t base your whole life on a virtual future. Where you can live is in the present moment, this minute, today, now! Yoga will help you develop an ability to live in the present moment through structured and

intelligent movements of the body which are practiced synchronised with your breath. The breath creates a link between your body and mind resulting in current moment awareness. Yoga exercise is more of a therapeutic moving meditation than an exercise program. The mindfulness developed in the yoga class can be taken off the yoga mat, out of the studio and used in your every day life. The benefits of mindfulness are incredible. It reduces stress, helps cope with depression and anxiety, promotes better sleep, clarity of thoughts and a positive outlook. Get to yoga and become a peaceful warrior NOT worrier. * This poem was selected by our own wise man, John Rollo, who has kept it close by for many years.

The Calf PAth – Sam Foss (1858-1911)

One day through the primeval wood, a calf walked home as good calves should; But made a trail all bent askew, a crooked trail as all calves do. Since then three hundred years have fled, and I infer the calf is dead. But still he left behind his trail, and thereby hangs my moral tale. The trail was taken up next day, by a lone dog that passed that way; And then a wise bell-wether sheep pursued the trail o’er vale and steep, And drew the flock behind him, too, as good bell-wethers always do. And from that day, o’er hill and glade, through those old woods a path was made. And many men wound in and out, and dodged, and turned, and bent about, And uttered words of righteous wrath, because ‘twas such a crooked path; But still they followed—do not laugh— the first migrations of that calf, And through this winding wood-way stalked, because he wobbled when he walked. This forest path became a lane, that bent and turned and turned again; This crooked lane became a road, where many a poor horse with his load Toiled on beneath the burning sun, and travelled some three miles in one. And thus a century and a half they trod the footsteps of that calf. The years passed on in swiftness fleet, the road became a village street; And this, before men were aware, a city’s crowded thoroughfare. And soon the central street was this of a renowned metropolis; And men two centuries and a half, trod in the footsteps of that calf. Each day a hundred thousand rout followed the zigzag calf about And o’er his crooked journey went the traffic of a continent. A hundred thousand men were led, by one calf near three centuries dead. They followed still his crooked way, and lost one hundred years a day; For thus such reverence is lent, to well established precedent. A moral lesson this might teach were I ordained and called to preach; For men are prone to go it blind, along the calf-paths of the mind, And work away from sun to sun, to do what other men have done. They follow in the beaten track, and out and in, and forth and back, And still their devious course pursue, to keep the path that others do. They keep the path a sacred groove, along which all their lives they move. But how the wise old wood gods laugh, who saw the first primeval calf. Ah, many things this tale might teach—but I am not ordained to preach. G

Magic Healing of the

Singing Bowl

T

he Singing Bowl has a long history, dating back to the 10th Century and beyond. In modern times they are considered to originate from Tibet, more accurately they are Himalayan in origin as they have long history that pre dates Buddhism. The complicated process begins with a combination of seven precious metals, one for each of the chakras – Copper, Tin, Zinc, Iron, Lead, Gold and Silver In modern times West Bengal in India is the place most singing bowls are made. An entire village is dedicated to making the bowls, the continuous sound of the hammers on the metal is the back drop to daily life in the village. With winter temperatures in the high 30’s the smell of fire is almost constant. Small huts with dirt floors line the streets, furnaces fed with local timber provide the extreme heat needed to heat the metal and form the blank. The 7 metal Singing Bowls or Healing Bowls are made by a hand hammering process. The bowl is shaped by beating it with large ham-

Sound is understood as the force of creation in ancient Hindu text. mers, experienced artisans complete this difficult task and the metal must be incredibly hot or it will crack and break. Then the edges are trimmed and Internal finishing creates an even tone. Experienced coordination is important – it is said that it takes a village to make a bowl. These singing bowls are widely popular for meditation, chakra balancing, sound therapy, sound massage, healing, space clearing and feng shui. They produce a very special and distinct sound. In the past the bowls were used for food, the monk would have his own personal bowl used for begging or accepting the gift of food from the people of his village or on the path by people he met while spreading the world of the Buddha. It is possible to vibrationally charge water placed in a singing bowl – you can try this for yourself. At first the water takes a long time to respond and then in subsequent ringings the water vibrates much faster as it has a remembered vibrational response. This a visible example of the healing properties of the bowls. It’s a very personal thing to choose a singing bow. You should take time to clear the mind and connect with the bowl placed on the open flat palm of your hand. Allow yourself to feel the bowl before gently striking the rim with the padded stick. Allow the vibration to commence and then slowly but consistently rotate the stick along the edge of the rim. The sounds will grow and can be felt as well as heard. When you own a bowl it will continue to respond faster each time you play it. They provide a perfect way to clear negativity and rebalance when life gets complicated. – M.H We purchase our Singing Bowls at Gnostic Forest direct from Ram in Kathmandu and he welcomes Gnostic Visitors to his store in Thamel.

Gnostic Mana Cafe features monthly exhibitions from the Central Coast’s leading artists. JULY: Terry Matthews Terry Matthews is an intuitive artist who paints in layers of shapes, colours, textures and tones to co-create his artworks. This method, along with Terry’s openness to collaborating with universal forces, allows a ‘magic’ or life-force to be an integral part of the painting process. ‘Paradise Mudgee’ (pictured), a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize 2010, is said to have captured Aboriginal spirits and water nymphs within the painting. This Encouraged Terry to pursue his art career and has since shown his work in galleries across Australia. With his exuberant passion for life and a recent trek to Nepal, Terry is excited to have returned to his Hair, Art and Healing Studio in Umina Beach to create many more soulful and inspired pieces. AUGUST: Karen Jane Williams In 2001 Karen Jane Williams took an introduction to arts course and knew that fine arts would be her next passion, following on from a history in crafts and textiles. Williams moved back to the Central Coast, joined local Art Societies and started to take a more professional view of her passion. ‘Art with an Edge’ is her business name. It refers to her art in terms of setting personal artistic parameters then pushing that edge into new areas with experimental ideas. Also she employs tools with some type of edge, such as palette knife, credit card, etc. to produce her work. ‘Studio on Bradleys’ is her gallery and work space, downstairs at her home in North Avoca.‘Creative Hands and Minds’ is the social Art and Craft group that she facilitates on Mondays at her studio. See www.sites.google.com/site/artwithanedge This exhibition draws from the different areas of her 14 year painting history since her sea change in Tel: (02) 4341 0544 2002. Starting with coastal scenes in pastel, then The Boulevarde Woy Woyacrylic. Progressing to abstract acrylics and mixed medium. Recently onto Eco Art – aiming to educate the viewer to make wise choices. G

Open Hand THE

BY ROD SMITH

O

pen your hand using all your strength. Stretch your fingers. Allow the lines on your palm to feel as though they might tear apart. Study the contours, colors, ridges and valleys, joints, dents and spaces. Push, pull, and rub. Move your fingers through their paces: together, apart, back, forward, curved, strained and relaxed, cooperative yet unique. Feel the texture and every curve. Touch the crevices. Spread your hand further, turn it at the wrist, examine and compare patterns from every angle. Here are pieces of yourself you might never have studied. Your hands are your constant companions. They have met the needs of others, pioneered romantic moments and worn rings of commitment. They are the way your heart leaves fingerprints, the eyes at the end of your arms. Hands reflect a person’s being and are the front line agents of your life. If eyes are said to be the windows of a soul, hands express the soul. Hold other people with your hand thoroughly open. Allow them to know the warmth and welcome of your hand, investigate its curves and benefit from its scars. Invite others to follow the lines into the fabric of your life and see the risks you have taken and the adventures that are yours. Allow them to wrestle and rest, search, see and speak. Let them stay; let them go, but let them find your hand always open. The Open Hand of friendship, at its widest span, is most rewarding, most challenging and most painful, for it enduringly acknowledges the freedom others have while choosing not to close upon, turn on, coerce, or manipulate others. In such friendships, expectations and disappointments become minimal and the reward G

is freedom. As others determine a unique pace within your open hand, they will see freedom and possibly embrace their own with excitement and pleasure. Openhanded people do not attempt to “fix” others, change, or control others even for their own good. Rather, each person is given freedom to learn about life in his own way. Openhanded people, instead, express kindly and truthfully what they think and feel, when asked, knowing even in the asking, others might not be interested or willing to learn. The Open Hand is not naive. It is willing to trust, while understanding and accepting that no person is all good or all bad, and that all behaviour has meaning. The Open Hand is convinced it cannot change others; it cannot see or think or feel or believe or love or see for others, but trusts people to know what is good themselves. It will not strong-arm, pursue or even attempt to convince others because it has little investment in being right, winning or competing. Here is offered a core-freedom of the deepest and most profound nature: allowing others to live without guilt, shame and expectation. Further, the Open Hand offers oneself freedom that extends to one’s memories, ambitions, failures and successes. This allows for growth of enduring intimacy, greater personal responsibility, authentic autonomy, and the possibility of meaningful relationships with others. In the discovery of a closed hand, even at the end of your own arm, do not try to pry it open. Be gentle. Allow it to test the risky waters of freedom. As it is accustomed to being closed and fist-like, it will not be easily or forcefully opened. So let the closed-handed do their own releasing and trusting, little by little, and in their own time and manner. When openhanded people meet, lives connect in trust, freedom and communion. Community is set in motion. Creativity is encouraged. Mutual support is freely given. Risks are shared. Lives are wrapped in the safety of shared adventure and individual endeavour all at the same time. Rod Smith has taught family therapy and courses on related topics for various institutions around the world.

HEALING

Kinesiology K (kin-easy-ology)

inesiology encompasses holistic health disciplines which use the gentle art of muscle monitoring to access information about a person’s wellbeing. It combines Western techniques and Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Kinesiology identifies the elements which inhibit the body’s natural internal energies and accesses the life enhancing potential within the individual. Kinesiology’s effective results come from the way it works with the body’s innate healing intelligence to restore balance and health to neurological and physiological functions. Through this modality, profound changes may be experienced emotionally, mentally and physically, thereby increasing a person’s health and wellbeing. When our system is functioning well, we feel well. Blocks and stresses prevent smooth energetic transmission, which can present as physical pain, mental discomfort and many expressions of dis-ease. They can also include allergies, depression, postural problems, poor performance levels, learning and relationship difficulties, digestive and nervous disorders - whatever the presenting problem, the system is saying it is malfunctioning. The goal of any Kinesiology ‘balance’ is to identify the bottom line cause of any imbalance in the body and then resolve it. It may be nutritional, emotional, structural, psychological, energetic or even spiritual - something as simple as an ‘attitude’, or a forgotten memory. At subtle levels, the person is already aware of what is needed to facilitate healing. What kinesiology is able to do, in a therapeutic sense, is to access that information in order to assist and stimulate the body’s natural healing ability.

WORLD: RETURN TO INDIA – Michelle Kinnane

F

leeing Ireland and the horrors of the potato famine (1843–45), John O’Brien set sail for India after signing up with the military. Affectionately known around this time as ‘The Jewel in the British Crown’, India was to become home to the next three generations of O’Brien’s until a year after its independence in 1947. My grandfather John married in Bangalore in 1856 and from his large family, the last of the John O’Briens to be born in India was my father in 1938. Growing up in West Ave, Santa Cruz, a suburb of Bombay (now Mumbai), my dad’s memories of growing up in the British ‘Raj’ reads like a Hollywood screenplay – ironic, as Mumbai is now the home of Bollywood! My father recently recalled…

“Our house, Shamrock was always alive and busy. Apart from our family of six, we shared our home with many servants, or ‘ayah’. Each of us had our own personal ayah as was the custom; mine would bring my lunch to school every day in a tiffin carrier – basically four saucepans of delicious hot curries and rice – and feed me. She would take me home from school and be there when I was playing, be it sailing paper ‘boats’ in the gutter, flying kites on the roof of our verandah or climbing the ‘chickoo’ tree (a furry fruit the size of a plum and very sweet). She was like a guardian angel, always at my side. Heading to Poona for our family holidays each year, we would take up three whole carriages on our personal train – one for our luggage, one for our ayah, and one for the family. My dad was the Deputy General Manager of the G.I.P. Railway. I remember visiting his office located above the Victoria Terminus – a very grand place (and the setting for the final scene of the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’). In 1943 the Japanese bombed Bombay harbour. My parents immediately packed me up and sent me up north to Lahore on the train. I enjoyed staying with Aunt Babsy and I met and played with my cousin Donny. It wasn’t until 36 years later that I saw him again when I visited his

home in the U.K.” With India’s independence in 1947 the extended O’Brien family had no choice but to leave what had become ‘home’ for the last one hundred years and resettle in Australia and the United Kingdom. My father said… “I will never forget the desperate pleas from our ayah on departure. They were begging us to take them with us to Australia… a harrowing memory.” They arrived in Sydney in 1948. I was born ten years later in Sydney after my dad married a young lass from Bankstown. When I think of my childhood memories, playing with my cousins from the O’Brien clan, I can still smell the delicious curries which our celebrations were always centred around at each family gathering. My trip with ‘Gnostic Travel’ to Mumbai this year will be my first, although it feels like a return for me. Long overdue, I look forward to visiting places like ‘Shamrock’, my dad’s school and his father’s office above Victoria Terminus, hoping to keep the family memories alive with what I see and then share on my ‘soul’ return from India. Michelle is available for readings at Gnostic Forest on Friday and Saturday. G

Now&Then Rhonda

When you were growing up, what did you think life had planned for you? I must admit, ever since I could remember, I have always lived in my own little world. I beloved in fairies and elves and the little folk that loved in mum’s wonderful garden – a garden that was left to run wild – with amazing deep ponds covered in water lilies and lots of secret hideaways. I never thought a lot about what life had in store for me. I always just believed that I would grow up and marry my prince and live happily ever after.

How did your childhood prepare you for the life that was ahead? I had a wonderful, fabulous childhood. I was the youngest of three and the only girl, so I was very spoilt! I know my mum and dad did so because they loved me but unfortunately it didn’t prepare me for real life in the real world. I couldn’t throw a tantrum out there as much as I did at home and expect the world would give me everything I thought I was entitled to. But my childhood taught me love and compassion for all living creatures and I am thankful for that. Looking back, what are you most grateful for, and what has been your biggest challenge? I am so grateful for the amazing family that I was born into. On my mum’s side there were so many poets and writers. George Bernard Shaw and Geoffrey Rush being two of them. That’s where my deep love of the arts comes from. On my dad’s side, all of my Aunties were incredible mediums and white witches and I love the fact that I have also inherited this – it certainly makes life very exciting! I think my biggest challenge has been to live in society when I would much rather live out in the forest, stirring the witches pot and talking to all the animals – ha ha!

Planetary Influences

for JUNE, JULY & AUGUST 2016

Jennifer has been an Astrologer  for 24 years (FAA Certificate) and is at Gnostic Forest on Fridays.

As the year moves on, the earth continues its orbit around the sun. This natural progression changes our position in relation to the other planets and the following influences occur…

JUNE

JULY

AUGUST

June has the ability to do one of two things for you. If you are in a positive frame of mind and energetically alert, you can bring positive change and take on extra responsibilities within your workloads, promotion, career choices, and social relationships. Actively sensitive, intellectual conversations and business should go well. If you are in a negative frame of mind, there will be confusion, lethargy, depression which hinders your train of thought. If so, go gently when making important decisions.

This month you may reflect on your past to understand how you will apply yourself with your future. Going over old ground to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes is important. Have the confidence, persistence, perseverance and sound judgement to think clearly of what your future can hold for you. Business proposals go well, as do social relationships. Some may prepare for a wedding or engagement or buying property.

August may bring some restriction and separations with limited assistance regarding formalities and obligations. Difficult gatherings and discomfort in relationships pay a big part in how you do well this month. Letting go of unwanted possessions will help you to have a spring cleaning attitude to rid yourself of what is not needed anymore. Others may love to travel the world, asking questions on different religions and philosophies. Extra studies and wanting more knowledge will be very important. A positive attitude is needed to help clear the air in a good way.
