to see the Lowers in their excellent international costumes as part of their languages-themed day. It was clear that a lot of effort had gone into them so well done. We are currently gearing up for our Open Day tomorrow. Please can I ask all of you to encourage anyone you know to come along to the morning if you think the school may be of interest to them. The morning will provide an opportunity to meet all the teachers, as well as enjoying Mrs Roper’s French café! DG

Beginners children, in our week’s topic of “who knocks at my door”, have been learning about people who help them at home. Many thanks to the parents for all the front door photographs.

All the Lodge and Nursery children are encouraged to observe the birds in their gardens. We have a “tree” in the Conservatory where the children are able to hang a picture of any bird they recognise.

Toads, drums and mosaics on Activities Day This term’s Activities Day took place yesterday, with some year groups going out on trips and other staying in school to enjoy workshops and activities. Form I were treated to an African Day, with visitor Helen Garratt coming in to do an African drumming workshop. During the day small groups also worked with artist Caroline Gregson to build an amazing elephant willow sculpture (pictured below).

Sky Ilori and Isabella Ashley were players of the match. 25th February: The U13A’s lost to Eagle House 23-7 but the U13B’s won 10-7. The U12A and B teams won their matches, 15-8 and 7-4 respectively. Form II enjoyed a rainforest-themed morning. Carl from the Zoo Lab was a particular highlight, bringing in all sorts of animals to show to the girls. These included Dave the toad, Dinky the rat, Claudia the corn snake and George and Georgie the hermit crabs. Mrs Baker held a rainforest dance and movement workshop in the JK Theatre in the morning too, before all the girls set off for the Wycombe Museum in the afternoon. Joining in enthusiastically with the theme of the day, the Lower Thirds arrived at school in their choice of related national costume to enjoy “tasters” in Spanish, German and Mandarin as

part of their special Languages Day. Including the goûter treat of hot chocolate and croissants, a run around language quiz and the creation of a Roman-style mosaic, prizes at the end of the day recognised the effort and energy of everyone involved. As always, thank you to the parents for your support in helping to make the experience such a visually colourful success! The Middle Thirds, Upper Thirds and Fourths were all treated to a trip to London. While the Middle Thirds visited the Jewish Museum in Camden, the Upper Thirds visited the Royal Festival Hall. They were taught how to play a rare collection of Indonesian instruments called a gamelan and also partook in a shadow puppets workshop. At the end of the day, groups gave a mini performance on the gamelan and shadow puppets. The Fourths enjoyed a trip to the National Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. At the latter they visited the theatre, performance and fashion galleries.

Summer stock is now available in the Uniform Shop, which is situated on the school premises. Parents can also use the sew-on service whilst it is relatively quiet. During term time the uniform shop is open on Mondays between 8am and 9am and Fridays between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Ski Trip success This half term’s ski trip wentto south-eastern France. Twenty-one girls travelled from Gatwick to Turin before jumping on a coach to the resort of Serre Chevalier. Fantastic snow and sunshine provided a week of fun on the slopes and everyone returned home happy and rejuvenated – except for Mrs Reynolds, who unfortunately sustained an injury to her shoulder on the first day! Three girls are currently putting together a report about their week away, which you will be able to read on the website next week. Plans are already underway for the 2015 ski trip. Watch this space!

Open Day tomorrow Godstowe is holding an Open Morning tomorrow (Saturday 1st March) from 10am to 1pm. If you know of anyone who may like to have a look around the school, meet the Headmaster, pupils and teaching staff, then please let them know. We would be delighted to welcome them!
