no responsibility for this outcome and is in no way promoting anything by announcing the results. Everyone had great fun, the speeches were well prepared, balanced and interesting and they have learned a great deal from the experience. I fully anticipate that the result next week will be somewhat different.Thank you girls. We have enjoyed a very busy beginning of term and I hope you are looking forward to Bank Holiday weekend, which, its name would imply, will probably mean rain. Be sure not to bring day girls to school on Monday - they may be rather lonely. See you on Tuesday. DG

I should add a disclaimer that the school accepts

Conservatives win election at Godstowe! In this morning’s assembly, pupils from Godstowe took part in an election debate and vote. Five girls represented each of the parties Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and UKIP - and put across their main points as to why their party should win pupils’ vote. Every pupil and member of staff was handed a piece of straw to drop into a ballot box on the way out of the JK Theatre. Once the straws were counted up, it was announced that the Conservative party won by a majority vote of 212.

The results were as follows: Conservatives - 212 Green Party - 38 Labour 35 UKIP 35 Liberal Democrats - 18

A Heavenly skiing trip to America for the girls We met at Heathrow airport at 10am on 27th March. After checking in, we headed through passport control to wait for our flight. We got settled on the plane and enjoyed 10 and a half hours of movies, food and sleep! We arrived at San Francisco Airport, collected our bags and headed straight to the bus for our transfer journey to Lake Tahoe.

On the first day we got up went to breakfast, and then drove to Heavenly, excited to spend the next five days skiing! The weather was warm and sunny and it wasn’t long before we were taking our jackets off and eating lunch in the sun. Our instructors were good fun and we had 5 hours of tuition every day. The view from the Gondula ride to the slopes was spectacular and allowed us to see both California and Nevada. After a wonderful five days skiing, we left Lake Tahoe for San Francisco, excited about our new adventure and looking forward to both the sightseeing and the shopping. On our way to San Fran we stopped at an outlet, where we had lunch, and shopped till we dropped! San Francisco looked beautiful in the sunshine and we really enjoyed our open-top bus tour although it was very windy crossing the Golden Gate bridge! After a wonderful few days of sightseeing, dinner outings to Pier 39 and some last minute shopping in Westfield, we left San Francisco and headed home for some much needed rest! We would to thank all the staff and girls who made this trip a success! By the three Ski Captains: Joanna Kelly, Clara O’Doherty and Aisha Edwards

Poem of the week This week in English, girls in Year 8 have been sharing their work inspired by the poem The Lady of Shalott. Pictured below is some work by 8L, including a cracked mirror by Ariel Mo By Ariel Mo On the Island of Shalott, There’s the Lady of Shalott, People passing by, Cannot see her with their eye. It is a strange thing To hear her sing. She uses the mirror reflection To see the world perfection, But on a strange night, She saw this attractive knight. She broke the curse by looking out the window, But realised it in the middle. She escaped from the tower, To see the trees and the flower. Now she’s beautifully dead, In her lovely flower bed. And what about Lancelot? Of course, he likes her a lot.
