Mrs Wylie

Welcome back to the Summer Term in Lodge. Beginners are thrilled with their new outside space (pictured below) – please ensure that the children all have their uniform red sun hats with them every day so that they can make the most of it in this lovely sunny weather. It is important that all children have their full kit in school each week: PE kit, trainers, black plimsolls and sun hats. Swimming lessons are held on the following days: Monday – Kindergarten, Wednesday – Beginners, Thursday – Transition. All clubs start on Monday - lists of places have been displayed on the notice board outside the kitchen.

Other useful dates 27th April: First day of Summer Term Enrichment Curriculum 1st May: Mufti Day in aid of Rosie’s Rainbow Fund 1st May (3.15-3.45pm): FOG Cake Sale in Lodge Ist May (4-4.30pm): FOG Cake Sale in Main School 1st May (4.10pm): Long Fixed Exeat. No clubs but supervised prep available until 5.30pm 4th May: Bank Holiday - no school

We regret that there is an error in the red calendar this term – on Friday 3rd July we are holding our Perriss Knight Awards but will not be performing country dancing. Kindergarten and Transition will have a swimming display on Thursday 25th June.

Kindergarten B-P and Nursery children enjoyed a picnic in our wooded area today as a reward for winning the Good Table Manners cup last term. Transition should continue to work on their number bonds as they will be tested on them next week. Thank you for your patience and co-operation during the ongoing building works. The children’s safety is paramount especially at drop off and collection.

Open Day

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Prince Nicholas Challenge and raised funds for needy children in Romania. I am delighted to announce that we raised £3,000, which will mean so much to those children who will receive a book of their own to read and treasure. Prince Nicholas starts his marathon cycle ride across Romania this weekend to raise awareness of, and support for this project. We wish him success and look forward to him revisiting us once he has completed his challenge. Our first Mufti Day this term, next Friday (1st May), is to support Rosie’s Rainbow Fund. Rosie’s Rainbow Fund was founded in Rosie Mayling’s memory in an effort to fulfill her wish to take action to help the seriously ill & disabled children she met in hospital during her own illness. Rosie intended to work to support these children and their families upon her recovery, and we carry on that work in her memory.

Mrs Buckland

Fancy a night out learning a new skill for a great cause? On Saturday, 16 May 2015, Rosie’s Rainbow Fund will be hosting a ‘Cocktails & Cupcakes’ Mixology evening at 5.30pm at the Snug Bar in High Wycombe. The evening will feature a Cocktail Masterclass taught by the Snug Bar’s expert Mixologists. The night will be capped off by a rainbow-cocktailmaking competition. Prizes, platters of food, and gourmet cupcakes will also be provided. If you would like to be involved in the ‘Cocktails & Cupcakes’ fundraiser, please e-mail office@rosiesrainbowfund.co.uk, or call 01865 589992.

Rosie loved drawing rainbows and we are asked to wear rainbow colours for Mufti. (They have set 15th May for this day, but Godstowe’s Mufti Day has already been set for 1st May!) Please do not feel you have to buy something special for this day - we hope that a good range of colours will add together to make a corporate rainbow!

Next competition round for girls Congratulations to the girls who have gone forward into the next round of the Chris Evans 500 word story writing competition and to those girls whose poems have been successful in the “Out of this World” Poetry Competition.

Last chance to collect vouchers for Active Kids Please make sure you collect vouchers when you shop at Sainsbury’s, either in store or online, and donate them to us by 5th May. The wide range of cooking and active equipment and experiences will help us support our children to eat well, move well and live well.

Second Hand Uniform Shop times In order to match the opening times to those of the Uniform Shop, the Second Hand Uniform Shop will now be open from 2-4pm on Wednesdays prior to the beginning of term (instead of 1-3pm). The shop is open as usual on Fridays during term time, between 3.30pm - 4.30pm.

Shakespeare’s birthday celebrations Girls in Year 6 (Middles) will be studying Shakespeare this term. They began their lessons this week with background research and celebrated his birthday yesterday with cake and candles. The class also celebrated Sky’s birthday!

Collection boxes can be found in Main School Reception and in Lodge. To find out more about Active Kids at Sainsburys.co.uk/ ActiveKids

Girls enjoy trip to Iceland during the Easter holidays During the last week of the Easter holidays, 26 girls and four members of staff travelled to Iceland for five days of back-back activities. On the first day, after landing in Reykjavík, the group visited the Blue Lagoon where they were able to enjoy the warm water and smother their faces in silica mud - a key element of the lagoon which is said to boost energy! Highlights on day two and three included a super jeep tour, onto a snow field and up a volcanic crater, the Gulfoss waterfall, the Great Geysir and a visit to Hveragerdi Geothermal Park. On day four, the group were kitted out with crampons and pickaxes and they hiked across a glacier, as well as visiting Eyjafjallajökull (the ash cloud volcano). Later in the day they visited the black sand beaches and enjoyed seeing the basalt columns and creating some beach art. Following a morning hike up a waterfall and a visit to the lava tube caves, the group departed Reykjavík on day five. A selection of photos from the trip can be viewed in the Photo Gallery on the Godstowe website.
