Kindergarten have started investigating rainforests throughout the world. This week in Design Technology they made orangutan and proboscis monkeys using paper plates, wool and crepe paper. As a follow on from their Matisse topic last term, we created Polynesia. We have discussed the Matisse Exhibition that is currently on at the Tate which covers the period when Matisse began ‘cutting into colour’. They enjoyed taking their poetry books home and have made some good attempts at writing their own poetry using alliteration and copious amounts of adjectives.

Please may we remind you that aftercare use the playground in the afternoon from 4pm and ask you to clear the area by that time so they can come out to play.

When I was having my early morning ramble, The ramble by rivers and trees, I saw a robin making a nest, On top of the old oak tree. It stared at me and I stared straight back, Into its deep, brown eyes. It was like we’d been friends all our lives. I’m positive I heard it talk in the breaking of the day, He whispered, come with me I can show you the world, So off we flew into the day. By Lucy Baker

Charitynews

Mrs Buckland

On Monday we were visited by Mrs Maria Price, who spoke in Main School Assembly about Tujatane School in Zambia. We are supporting this school by our Mufti Day, which took place today, and also hope to set up more of a link in the future. Maria showed us a short film about the school and the children who attend. It was a sobering thought that some children will not eat from Friday until Monday, so a vital part of the school’s work is feeding the pupils, apart from equipping them for a brighter future. It is a wonderful opportunity to support a charity where the workers in this country are volunteers, so every pound that we give will be used to help those who need it most. Each form could potentially feed three children for a month. I do hope you will be interested enough to visit the Tujatane website, which will not only give you further information, but also shows a ‘wish list’ of items which we could collect and send out via one of their volunteers - www.tujatane.com. We will soon be installing a large collection box at Godstowe for contributions - items such as coloured pencils (they don’t have to be brand new) and paper are always valuable. Please watch this space for further information! For Mufti Day, girls and staff dressed up as hippies. There were some fantastic costumes photos can be seen on the Godstowe website in the Photo Gallery.

Art Exhibition and Fashion Show on 9th and 10th May Godstowe School’s annual Art Exhibition will take place next Friday and Saturday (9th and 10th May) in the JK Theatre. Art by every pupil in the school - from Nursery to Fourth Form - will be on display for parents and visitors to view. On the Friday evening at 7.30pm, the Fourths will walk down the catwalk in dresses designed by themselves. The Fashion Show will be held again on Saturday 10th May at 12.30pm, during the school’s Open Day. Open Day runs from 10am - 1pm. If you know of anyone that you think might be interested in looking around the school, please encourage them to come along! We would be delighted to welcome them.

Art Exhibition and Open Day 9th and 10th May

Please also remember that it is compulsory for all Uppers and Fourths to be in school for Open Day. Any Middles that are interested in coming in to help with tours should speak with Mrs Kenyon.

Costumes for Upper Division Oliver! production The Upper Division will be performing Oliver! in July and some help is needed gathering costumes. We need some old boy’s dark trousers, shorts and white shirts - they can be in any condition. Please bear in mind that these will not be returned.

Iceland Trip photographs Photographs from the Iceland Trip are now up on the Godstowe website please see the Photo Gallery. The albums have been split into days so parents can see what the group got up to on each day of the trip.

We will also need small waistcoats for “Fagan’s Gang”. If you would like these to be returned to you afterwards please label them clearly. As these outfits are for the Upper Division, adult clothes will not be suitable. If you can help provide any clothing it would be hugely appreciated. All items of clothing should be handed in at reception as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

Keep collecting Sainsburys School Vouchers! So far we have collected 3629 Active Kids vouchers which is absolutely fantastic. However, there is still time to collect some more. Active kids vouchers can be collected at all Sainsbury’s stores, petrol stations and when ordering groceries online up until 20th May. Godstowe aims to collect enough vouchers to purchase some new equipment for the playground. A collection box can be found in Reception in Main School, and for Lodge please hand your vouchers to Mrs Armstrong.

Poetry competition Godstowe girls will be entering the Foyle Young Poets Award poetry competition this summer. The English Department will be asking classes to enter this competition - for 11 to 17 year olds - and they will work on their poems this term and submit them on 4 July. If you daughter is submitting a poem, please have a look at the following websites for more information about the competition.: www.foyleyoungpoets.org www.poetry.society.org.uk/education
