It seems almost unbelievable that the sun is shining right now (2.39pm on Friday) but if you have seen the forecast as I have this appears to be short lived. I do hope that many of you are not seriously suffering at the hands of rain and flooding. It will be quite interesting to see photographs of your local circumstances such as they may be. Please could you forward them to Miss May (gmay@godstowe.org) and let us know if you are happy for us to show a few in the Half Term newsletter. We have had many many fixtures and exams during the course of this week and I am delighted to tell you that we have enjoyed considerable success with many girls taking senior school examinations. Congratulations to all of them for a universal pass rate and we are all delighted and happy for them.Well done. Our cross country runners represented Godstowe in an event for the county this Wednesday and continued to wade through mud as they have become accustomed to but also negotiated a stream which caused great hilarity.
Well done to those girls for braving it out. Needless to say lacrosse matches continue to be scuppered, this Saturday’s tournament being the latest victim. Half Term is rapidly approaching and I don’t remember it getting light very often. Let’s hope better things are to come. Please may I finish with a couple of reminders – girls are expressly reminded that they should not at any time bring mobile phones to school, nor money, sweets or chewing gum (which is totally banned). There has been a little bit of evidence recently of one or two of these items skilfully bypassing parental supervision. Please could you help us in ensuring that none of these things arrive at school. In exceptional circumstances (such as a specific request from a member of staff) mobile phones or money must be handed to Reception directly on arrival and will not be returned until the end of the school day.Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you during the course of next week. Have a good weekend. DG

Nursery children this week have started looking at the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. They have climbed to the top of the climbing frame to role play giants and planted beans in jam jars to watch growing.
In Transition H’s class assembly this week the children enjoyed acting out the story of Stone Soup to encourage everyone to think about the moral of sharing. Jamie Kane did a great job portraying the traveller.
The children in Beginners have shown great enthusiasm for our focus of ‘recycling’ and ‘looking after our world’ this week. Thank you parents for your contribution in helping the children to choose ‘bits and pieces’ for their dinosaurs which have been a great success! (pictured below)
Congratulations to Sasha Kochman, Madeleine Brennand and Venetia Weiss who all passed their Primary ballet exam. They will be presented their certificates in achievement assembly on Monday.
Kindergarten have enjoyed learning about Antarctica and animal adaptation. They researched Ernest Shackleton’s expedition to Antarctica and discussed what life must have been like sailing through the pack ice and living on a boat.
Mrs Wylie’s Beginners and Nursery Workshop is on Thursday morning at 8.45am in Lodge Hall with coffee available after drop off. If your child is in Mad Science Club please can you return payment for this term’s club. Please remember that next Friday there will be no gym club as we break up for the Half Term holiday - aftercare will be available as usual.

It was freezing cold and very windy but despite this all our runners ran brilliantly and we were very proud of them all. They even had to run through a deep stream at one point in the race! There were 110 runners in the race and the competition was very strong. The results were as follows: Year 5 race: Megan Harris came second and won the silver medal. Isabella Morley came 10th and Rosie George came 11th. Year 6 race: Alice Moffat came 6th and Lottie Rowlins came 13th. The four fastest Godstowe runners were Alice Moffat, Megan Harris, Lottie Rowlins and Imogen Sharkey and were awarded the silver team medal - missing out on the gold medal by milliseconds!

Cake Sales Thank you to all those parents who brought in cakes for the cake sales last week, your efforts were greatly appreciated. Huge thanks to Kindergarten and Lowers for organising and running the stalls in the face of some pretty horrible weather! Kindergarten raised £121.33 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Lowers raised £221 for Wycombe Homeless Connection, so really well done. Children’s Party We’ve had an overwhelming response to the
Reminder: No activities on 14th
The recent dreadful weather has caused the roof of her hen house to collapse and although no hens have been harmed, they are very damp and miserable and desperately in need of a warm dry house. Ideally I am after an Eglu; however a well built, weatherproof, wooden hen house would also be most acceptable. If you have a hen house you no longer require, or know of one for sale (not too expensive), please contact Mrs Rosie Lake.
We would like to remind parents that there will be no after-school clubs or activities next Friday (14th February), as half term commences. However supervised Prep will be available until 5.30pm.
Godstowe is collecting Active Kids vouchers Sainsbury’s Active Kids is back. Between 29th January and 20th May 2014, Active Kids vouchers can be collected at all Sainsbury’s stores, petrol stations and when ordering groceries online. The vouchers collected can be exchanged for a huge range of sports equipment and experiences. Godstowe aims to collect enough vouchers to purchase some new equipment for the playground. A collection box can be found in Reception in Main School, and for Lodge please hand your vouchers to Mrs Armstrong.
