Uppers girls sorting and packing food donated at Main School Harvest Festival

Autumn weather has definitely arrived, though not before we had a very successful Main School Activities Day on Wednesday. Form I investigated animal teeth at Wipsnade Zoo; Form II visited the Roman Baths at Bath; the Lowers found out about the Tudors at the Mary Rose Exhibition in Portsmouth Dockyard; the Middles rehearsed for their upcoming production of ‘Blast Off’; the Uppers visited the site of Verulamium, the Roman theatre and the museum near St Albans; and the Fourths went on a geography and maths trip to Wendover Woods.

Lodgenews

Thank you to all the staff for making the day so enjoyable for everyone. It looks as though tomorrow may be a rather wet Open Day, but please don’t let that put you off coming as there will be lots to see, including the new Sports Hall and JK Theatre. The French Café will I am sure be doing a roaring trade as ever. Do invite any friends or family, particularly those who may be interested in Godstowe for their children. I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow – have a good weekend. DG

Lodge Book Week – We love reading! This week Lodge children became authors and illustrators and had a very busy Book Week. They had a visit from Funky Fairy who led a Perform drama workshop – the children had fun searching for the lost fairytale book of happy endings. A big thank you to the Fourths girls and Mrs Evans who read stories to all the Lodge children. We particularly enjoyed our visit to the Library and would like to come back soon. During the week each class learnt a poem to recite in front of Lodge and each child did very well learning their words – we feel you might know them too! We have ended our week with the children dressing up as their favourite fairy tale character.

If, like me, you are not remotely green fingered and break out in a sweat at the idea of growing plants then read on. I have been reliably informed that for those who are horticulturally challenged there is a ready-made hanging basket for £9 which arrives fully planted. All you need to do is decide which hook to hang it on and then pretend you created it yourself if anyone asks (as I will be doing). Order forms can be printed here so go on, grab a basket.

Are you handy with a needle? Mrs Hedley: The netball bibs are in need of a bit of TLC and I am looking for a parent (or grandparent) to kindly volunteer to repair them. Mostly it will be sewing on new velcro or elastic. Please email me at phedley@godstowe.org if you might be able to help.
