Mercedes Miller: New President of the ATL Airport District

Born and raised on Atlanta’s Southside, she has leveraged her innate charisma & genuine curiosity about people into a remarkable threedecade-long career in hospitality. After over 11 years as the Executive Director of the Georgia

International Convention Center (GICC), Miller is set to begin an exciting new chapter as President of the ATL Airport District Convention and Visitors Bureau, e ective September 30, 2024.
A pillar of the hospitality industry & Atlanta community, Miller was an active member of several industry organizations, including the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), the Professional Conference Management Association (PCMA) and the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners (NCBMP). Her leadership has earned her numerous accolades, including being recognized among the “Top 100 Leaders in Hospitality” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle & named on the “100’s List of Georgia’s Most Powerful and Influential Women” by Women Looking Ahead Magazine.
Reflecting on the start of her career, Miller shared, “Sometimes your job finds you; you don’t find it. I think that every day is a day to serve someone. It

She also spearheaded the $48 million Gateway Center Arena project, home to the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, the College Park Skyhawks and soon, League One Volleyball Atlanta.
Miller’s career is marked by her strong working relationship & friendship with the outgoing President of the ATL Airport District CVB, Cookie Smoak. The two
bold women hit it o immediately when their paths crossed at the Atlanta CVB and they quickly formed a powerful partnership. As Miller recalls, “Cookie and I became yin and yang. If I sold space, she sold rooms. If she sold rooms, I sold space. We had a lot of fun and were very successful in winning business for College Park.”
When asked what she’s most excited about, Miller replied, “To have an even bigger platform. I think about all the hotels, restaurants and attractions across the entire District, and it broadens my reach in being able to make more people’s dreams come true.”
As she steps into her new role as President of the ATL Airport District, her focus will be on leveraging her experience and deep community ties to foster a thriving hospitality industry & contribute to the vibrancy of Atlanta’s Southside. With her at the helm, the future looks incredibly promising for The ATL Airport District.
