MASADA

This dramatic rock mesa overlooking the Judaean Desert is home to a complex of Roman imperial buildings and palaces built by Herod the Great, who ruled the Jews from 37BC to 4BC. The site holds great historical importance, as when the Roman army laid siege to Masada, the Jewish Rebels who took refuge there decided to kill themselves rather than become Roman slaves; to this day, the rock remains a symbol of the ancient Jewish Kingdom of Israel. Climb to the top, or alternatively take the cable-car and enjoy the views in comfort.

Dear Friends On behalf of the Gospel Music Association, it is my honor to welcome you to the 47th Annual GMA Dove Awards! We are excited to share this celebration with you and want to congratulate the incredible roster of nominees across all forty-two categories. Tonight we have come together to celebrate music that changes people’s lives with The Message. We celebrate those on the frontlines, dedicating their time and talent to boldly sharing a message of Love with the world at a time we so desperately need Good News.

Last year the Dove platform declared that we are “better together!” And this year, we continue that anthem by acknowledging the gift that Christ has given all of us and instructed us to share, we are to be his “Love. Amplified.” Love. Amplified. also speaks to our desire to raise the roof with a unified voice accompanied by many different sounds. Pope Francis said, “Unity does not imply uniformity;” so, no matter what your favorite style may be, I encourage you to hear beyond the style and allow yourself to experience the beauty that crosses the stage.

Every year the Gospel Music Association works hard to fulfill its mission to Expose, Promote and Celebrate the Gospel Through Music. We do this by exposing you to artists you may not have heard; we promote Christian and gospel music by reaching the world via television (last year over 1.4 million people tuned in to watch the show on TBN) and we celebrate not just the created but the Creator! Our small GMA staff along with a dedicated team of gifted people and more than two hundred volunteers are behind the scenes serving to make this a historic event. It is with great appreciation that I acknowledge everyone’s labor of love and faith-filled commitment.

Special thanks also go to our partners at Lipscomb University, LifeWay and TBN for sharing the vision and putting their resources behind the GMA Dove Awards, allowing us to make it bigger and better every year. We’re also incredibly grateful to our many like-minded sponsors who have chosen to align their life’s work with ours because they believe in the value of our artists and the Message they share through music.

From the president of tbn Dear Friends,

Welcome

Trinity Broadcasting Network is honored to serve once again as the exclusive broadcast partner of the GMA Dove Awards, hands-down the most exciting evening of the year in Gospel and Christian music. For nearly a half century, the Dove Awards have represented the gold standard for Christian singers, songwriters, and music professionals. And here at TBN we’re thrilled to share this special night of honors, excitement, and life-changing music with millions of viewers around the world.

More than ever before this music we’re here to celebrate is attracting the attention and touching the hearts of individuals across the earth — and it’s not difficult to understand why. In a world that is growing more unpredictable by the day, people everywhere are looking for a place of peace, hope, and healing. And they’re finding it in the music of the men and women we’re honoring here tonight. Over the past several months Laurie and I have personally witnessed this phenomenon as TBN has partnered closely with Hillsong Worship, which is well represented at tonight’s GMA Dove Awards. Just a few weeks ago we were on hand for the Red Carpet premiere of the big-screen theatrical worship experience, Hillsong — Let Hope Rise, which has since impacted millions of movie-goers across America. And earlier this summer TBN had the privilege of joining with Hillsong in the launch of one of television’s most innovative new networks, the Hillsong Channel. This awesome addition to the TBN family is bringing all the excitement and life-transforming power of Hillsong’s worship, concerts, and sold-out stadium events to viewers across the globe. Laurie and I have had the opportunity to watch up close the response of people to this music that invites God’s presence and power, and here’s what we’ve seen: Individuals everywhere are primed to dive head-long into the oceans of God’s love — and the music represented here tonight is helping them get there. It sets the stage, opens the door, and ushers us into the presence of a God whose mercy and grace set us free. Tonight we want to join those attending the 47th Annual GMA Dove Awards — and all of those around the world viewing by way of TBN — in thanking the writers, musicians, producers, and professionals responsible for bringing this phenomenal music to all of us who are enriched and transformed by it. We honor each and every one of you for your faithfulness and commitment to excellence. May God continue to pour His Spirit without measure into this music that brings us into His glorious presence, where we are blessed, challenged, changed — and conformed into the image of His Son. For Christ’s Kingdom

47th Annual GMA Dove Awards

From the congresswoman Everyone loves GMA Week and we are thrilled that you are here to share it with us. Welcome to Tennessee and the 47th Annual Dove Awards.

Welcome Welcome

Over the last four decades, the Dove Awards show has grown to be a premier event for the Gospel music industry. Your songwriters, singers and musicians always bring forward a show that is uplifting and inspiring. It is thrilling to celebrate with you as we honor the talents of those who make it their life’s work to spread the gospel and the name of Jesus to the world through song. It is an honor to celebrate their success and the growth in popularity of Christian and Gospel music. The talent before you, not only tonight but every day, is a God-given talent. You have accepted that gift and your stewardship requires you to continue training your talents to use them for the kingdom of God. I wish you well in your work. Welcome to Nashville! Marsha Blackburn

Member Of Congress

From the Governor Dear Friends,

On behalf of the great State of Tennessee, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to the award nominees, organizers, and guests of the 47th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Tennessee is honored, once again, to host one of gospel music’s premier events. Christian and Gospel music has a long and storied tradition in our state. Many of tonight’s nominees call the Volunteer State their home and much of the music being recognized was made here as well. The Dove Awards highlight the impact of Christian & Gospel music, recognizing the work and talent of outstanding artists. Inaugurated in 1969, and first televised in 1984, this event allows millions of Americans to join in the celebration of their remarkable achievements. I am extremely thankful for the numerous contributions that these artists have made to our great state. Again, welcome to the Dove Awards. Crissy and I send our very best wishes for a wonderful and memorable evening. Warmest regards, Bill Haslam

47th Annual GMA Dove Awards

From the senator Dear nominees, performers, and attendees:

Welcome

It is an honor to welcome you to Nashville for the Gospel Music Association’s 47th Annual Dove Awards. I am certain you will find Nashville to be a warm and vibrant city. Although its foundation is built on music, Nashville is also bursting with history, cultural diversity and a flourishing culinary scene. I hope you take an opportunity to explore all that Music City has to offer. Congratulations to all of the nominees being honored at this celebration. Your hard work and dedication to providing positive and encouraging entertainment is to be commended, and I am pleased to recognize your achievements. To the artists performing this evening, enjoy yourselves and cherish this opportunity to share your extraordinary talent with others. I also would like to commend the work that many of you have done to raise awareness on the issue of modern slavery. With so many of you raising your voices in the faith community, I do believe we can make huge strides in ending this horrific practice in Tennessee and around the world. Best wishes for a memorable evening with family and friends, and I hope you enjoy your time in the city that music calls home. Senator Bob Corker

From the Mayor Dear Friends, Thank you for choosing Nashville for your presentation of the 47th Annual Dove Awards. Our city is honored to host this extraordinary celebration of Christian and Gospel music once again. Nashville is fortunate to be Music City and blessed to have so many genres of music centered here, including Christian and Gospel. Congratulations to all of tonight’s nominees. Your songs fill souls and inspire hearts around the world every day — and help make our city what it is. I hope you have a wonderful night here in Nashville, and if you don’t live here already, I hope you’ll come back often. Sincerely, Megan Barry Mayor

For Luke Smallbone of for KING & COUNTRY, his excitement in co-hosting the 47th Annual Dove Awards all goes back to the mid-nineties and a night spent at the Grand Ole Opry. As his big sister Rebecca St. James graced the Dove Awards stage, the seed was already being planted. Big brother and band mate Joel Smallbone describes his foray into the arts as, “I feel like music chose me.” After a serious injury on the basketball court sidelined Luke’s sports aspirations in high school, lyrical purpose was found in one of that year’s biggest releases, Switchfoot’s The Beautiful Letdown. “I began to wonder, ‘These songs do something to me—they really are powerful. Could I ever do something like that?’ About a year later, Joel came to me and said, ‘Hey man, what do you think about writing and singing on some demo’s and just seeing where this goes?” It’s gone quite well for the Brothers Smallbone. In addition to winning three Dove Awards, for KING & COUNTRY now claim two GRAMMY® Awards and are releasing their first major feature film, Priceless, premiering this Friday. On hosting tonight’s Dove Awards? Luke says, “Joel and I aren’t particularly hilarious people, let’s be real. What we do have to offer is the stirring of God that has happened in our lives. My prayer for the night is that there’s a sentiment of hope behind everything we do.”

@BowTyeTrib

@TyeTribbett

At this point, there’s no reason to downplay it— tonight’s co-host Tye Tribbett is really excited about his role at this year’s Dove Awards. What has him geeked out the most? “I’m a really big fan of my co-hosts, actually. I love for KING & COUNTRY! I’m very excited about sharing that platform and getting connected with them. “For me, it’s being part of such a great musical night. The Dove Awards have always expressed a wide range of musical presentations—as a musician, I’ve always loved that. To be part of this night as a co-host is something very special for me.” The multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and choir director also brings his own impressive collection of hardware, consisting of two GRAMMY® Awards, four Stellar Awards, and two Dove Awards. More importantly, however, it’s staying locked on bringing forth the message found in the theme of the 47th Annual show, Love. Amplified. ”The Dove Awards are intentional, ’Let’s grab those who are Kingdom-minded, who are singing praise and worship toward the same God that we all serve...let’s showcase us together on the same stage.’ I am so for that. I have been for years, and that’s why it’s a double...triple...quadruple-honor for me, so we can scream this theme of love and unity as many members, but also as one body in Christ. “His agenda is, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself.’ His agenda is, ‘Worship the Lord, thy God, with all thy mind and soul.’ I’m going to love my neighbor aggressively and intentionally tonight. I’m going to worship hard tonight. Prayerfully, God will be glorified.”

On his 2015 release, Losing My Religion, the legendary Kirk Franklin told CCM Magazine, “This album has become the soundtrack to our inability to ever do enough to match what has already been done through Jesus Christ.” Despite the head-turning title, Franklin’s singing of the redemptive and unifying power of God’s love inspires people the world over and finds him in a very familiar place this evening.

Hollyn’s self-titled debut EP on Gotee Records (2015) peaked at #10 on Billboard’s US Christian chart. The young songstress already has a #1 (“Alone feat. Stars Go dim

They say, “Good things come in ‘three’s.’” For Travis Greene, who survived a stillborn birth and a four-story fall out of a window at age four, he’s certainly made the most of his third time around by singing the praises of ‘Three’ (God the Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit). As long as we’re handing out awards tonight, Stars Go Dim would certainly be contenders for “Band Mates Of The Year!” So drummer Josh Roach wouldn’t miss the birth of his son, after a canceled red-eye the band immediately left their Winter Jam show in Michigan, rented a car, and drove the 850 miles to Tulsa to make it—just in time—for Zedekiah Aric James Roach’s arrival.

Jordan is nominated for a total of three Dove Awards tonight, including the album’s title track, which is up for “Song Of The Year” honors.

If there could be a poster boy for a CCM version of the American dream, Darren Mulligan, front man for We Are Messengers, would likely be it. “[Ever since I was] a young boy, I wanted to write music so that people would understand what was going on in my heart...now at age 36, I get to release fourteen songs that tell people exactly what is going on.” We understand, Darren, and this is just the beginning.

Beautiful Offerings Pop/contemporary

Album of the Year

producers: Jeremy Redmon

Last month, Big Daddy Weave were honored with the Rich Mullins Impact Award for their long-time contributions to Christian radio at CMB Momentum in Orlando, FL. Accepting the award was Jay Weaver, making his first public appearance since losing both feet during ongoing efforts to fight a deep infection in his body. Weaver’s response, “To be mentioned by them in the same breath as Rich Mullins is truly humbling.”

empires producers: Michael Guy Chislett and Joel Houston

Talk about a launch party. When Hillsong UNITED released EMPIRES last year, hey took it to places no worship album had been before. Literally into outer space. “In a world that strives desperately to reach new heights, we thought we would send this thing as far and as high as we could go naturally, knowing full well that where this thing will land, begins and ends where our knees hit the ground.” -Joel Houston

be One producers: Bernie Herms and Robert Marvin

Just dance! Last year, Natalie Grant told CCM Magazine, “It doesn’t make our problems go away, but I promise, if you dance for just 30-seconds, you can’t help but smile and feel just a little better about your life ... My three girls and even get their Daddy into it, we dance our heads off!” There’s a good chance that the soundtracks to many of our “dance breaks” this year have come from Be One... thanks, Natalie!

Love riot producers: Mark Needham, Zach Hall, Seth Mosley, Mike “X” O’Conner

Oh, so simple. When Michael Tait and Newsboys met at a crossroad around 2010, Tait recently recalled to CCM Magazine, “I needed Newsboys desperately, and they desperately needed me … They needed a singer; I needed a job, and it was that simple to me.” Proving God’s timing is always perfect, the new format has won over long-time fans and the band are enjoying their most successful era to date.

*** This is Not A Test *** producers: Christopher Stevens, Toby McKeehan, David Garcia

For a guy finding so much success in pulling out the best in others— take 2016 Dove Awards New Artist Of The Year nominee Hollyn and smash-hit powerhouse all-star Ryan Stevenson as examples—how does one keep his own light shining so brightly? Turns out, it’s that very thing that keeps his sword sharp, “I look for artists that are making art to serve people—that’s what moves me. Ultimately, I look at it as loving people when you make great art. I’m looking for artists and art that serve people well and love humanity.”

Still Southern

Gospel Album of the Year

producers: Jason Webb, Lari Goss, Ronnie Booth, Michael Booth, Jim Brady

The title track for the Booth Brothers’ thirty-first recording provides comfort to anyone who is experiencing change in their life. It reminds us that God is still on His Throne and He has a purpose. He is...He was...He will. This is the Booth Brothers’ third Dove Award nomination in their long-standing career.

that day producers: Wayne Haun

The Collingsworth Family career began as Phil and Kim leading worship at a church camp in Michigan over thirty years ago. Now an entire family band, including Brooklyn, Courtney, Phillip, and Olivia, the talented sextet is going for their second-ever Dove Award honor, their first since 2012 (Long Form Music Video).

Happy people producers: Ernie Haase, Wayne Haun, Todd Collins

What do Ernie Haase & Signature Sound and rap legend Lecrae have in common? Well, since 2006, the group has enjoyed quite an exciting ride through the Dove Awards—equaling their hip hop counterpart, they have been nominated a whopping seventeen times! Tonight they could add three more Dove wins, which would instantly double their total number of honors.

how we love producers: Mark Lowry, Kevin Williams

In late December, CCM Magazine‘s Andy Argyrakis said of Mark Lowry’s How We Love, ”Only someone the caliber of Lowry could cover the likes of Loretta Lynn and “Happy” hip-hopper Pharrell Williams on the same album and actually sound cohesive … The master song stylist puts his signature southern gospel/bluegrass/ traditional pop stamp on selections that are just as abundant on harmonies as they are on hope.”

moments like these producers: Mike Bowling

Top tweet? “Choose forgiveness, choose humility, choose integrity, choose to love, choose to stand by your convictions, and if at all possible, choose to be happy. Don’t let them steal your smile.” Great encouragement from an even greater family, thanks Bowling Family!
