Welcome to the 53rd Annual GMA Dove Awards and congratulations to this year’s nominees!

Our theme for tonight’s show is “Sound of Heaven.” The Dove Awards is a celebration of all the parts of our community - worship, Gospel, contemporary, Southern Gospel, Latin, rock, urban and hip hop. I love how every year on this special night, we gather together to honor, celebrate, and learn from each other.

It is my personal calling to build bridges within this richly diverse community and make space for all members of Christian and Gospel music to have a voice and a place to belong. Unity doesn’t always come naturally. We have to work at it, joining the different cultures and styles together under our shared banner of Hope. That’s why diversity and unity have been and will continue to be a cornerstone of the GMA and the Dove Awards.

Together we are fulfilling our GMA mission to expose, promote and celebrate the gospel through music. The Dove Awards is a global platform where we come together to reflect God’s kingdom for the entire world to see via our telecast. I am grateful to all our artists and songwriters who are dedicated to the kind of authenticity that leads to innovation. We applaud each of our creatives for accepting their God given calling and committing their lives to this life giving message. Because of this passion, God has given us a new song and a new sound that is impacting every aspect of our modern culture.

Tennessee is privileged, once again, to host one of Gospel music’s premier events. Christian and Gospel music has a long and storied tradition in our state. As governor, I am pleased to offer my congratulations to the artists and industry professionals being honored tonight. I would also like to recognize the numerous contributions that all the artists and the Gospel Music Association have made to our great state. I am proud to be the governor of a state that is home to music of all genres and recognize the talented individuals who carry Gospel music around the world.

Tennesseans hear your songs in their homes and in their hearts, providing a note of grace to each moment. Inspiring so many to renew their faith and understand their purpose, the music and artists celebrated this night are more than a thriving Tennessee industry.

What started as a dream to make space for diversity has grown into a vibrant artist community making music for the masses, this year performing on the GRAMMY® stage, the first televised GRAMMY® Gospel performance in more than two decades. The platinum-selling group was Billboard’s #2 Gospel Artist of 2021, won Top Gospel Album at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards and won the 2021 Dove Awards for New Artist of the Year and Worship Album of the Year. Winners of the 2020 GMA Dove Award for Best New Artist, We The Kingdom is a multigenerational family band made up of brothers Ed Cash and Scott Cash, Ed’s children Franni Rae Cash Cain and Martin Cash, and close family friend Andrew Bergthold. A band that has become synonymous with dynamic live performances, their full-length debut album, Holy Water, earned a Billboard Music Awards nomination and 2021 GMA Dove Awards for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year.. Encompassing worship, rock, soul, Country, folk and pop and providing a textured sonic background for vulnerable, often gritty, lyrics, We The Kingdom’s music feels like visceral emotion wrapped in the technicolor of joy. Their music isn’t confined to the pretty parts of life but covers the full spectrum, including the messy parts; each song contending that it’s OK to not be OK. And that’s a message they want to take beyond the four walls of the church.

NOMINEE FOR ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Zach Williams is a husband, father, recording artist, and songwriter, writing life-changing songs that come from a place of humility, honesty, and a direct reflection of God’s redemption in his life. Williams has earned two GRAMMY® awards (Chain Breaker, 2018; “There Was Jesus,” 2021), and along with an additional five GRAMMY® nominations, is a multi-GMA Dove Awards and K-LOVE Fan Awards winner and nominee, and made radio history with two consecutive radio No. 1 hits for 35 weeks with his debut singles “Chain Breaker” and “Old Church Choir.” He performed the multi-week No. 1 single “There Was Jesus,” which is RIAA-certified Gold, live with Dolly Parton on the 53rd Annual CMA Awards in 2019, while the song made the Pandora Top Spins chart for twelve consecutive weeks and was named one of Pandora’s top 100 songs across all genres.

Additionally, “There Was Jesus” was WAY-FM’s top song of 2020. He was named Billboard’s 2017 Top Christian Male Vocalist and New Artist of the Year and CCM Fan Awards’ Favorite New Artist Of The Year. Zach will be reuniting with Dolly Parton for a performance of “There Was Jesus” on her Christmas special, set to air this holiday season on NBC.

Armed with a powerhouse voice and mountain-moving faith, 20 year-old Anne Wilson burst onto the Christian music scene with her No.1 debut smash, “My Jesus.” As the first female debut artist to reach #1 on the Billboard AC chart, Wilson’s “My Jesus,” now RIAA-certified Gold, was the longest running #1 for 2021. She had the biggest first week album debut of any CCMG-signed new artist in the last fifteen years and her album hit #1 on the Billboard Top Christian & Gospel Albums and #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Christian & Gospel. Amidst the whirlwind, Wilson has maintained her strong faith in God and genuine love for people, both shining through on her debut album, My Jesus. Anne is nominated for six Dove Awards tonight including Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year - Artist.

As the second artist signed to Chris Tomlin’s Bowyer & Bow imprint, in partnership with Universal/Capitol Christian Music Group, Blessing Offor is poised to share his thoughtfully crafted pop instincts and unique perspective with the world. Hints of Motown, and soul and pop flourish across Blessing’s music as he sings of optimism, hope, and finding silver linings in dark clouds. Earlier this year, Blessing released his debut EP Brighter Days to critical acclaim, with the self-titled track peaking at #2 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart. Blessing made his national television debut on NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show and has collaborated with GRAMMY® winner TobyMac on the latter’s most recent single “The Goodness.” Blessing’s music has been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, The Equalizer, American Idol, The Resident, and American Ninja Warrior.

DOE

Between the purity of her vocals, intuitive lyrics and soul-captivating sound, singer-songwriter-musician DOE — born Dominique Jones — is poised to usher in a new era of Gospel/inspirational music that transcends traditional perceptions. DOE, also an accomplished guitarist, wrote all of Clarity’s 11 songs and also coproduced several tracks on the album. Pursuing her passion to sing and write, DOE was featured on Jonathan McReynolds’ single “Cycles” from his Make Room album. The collaboration resulted in DOE’s third GRAMMY® nod when “Cycles” was nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song. Impressed by her singing/ songwriting skills, McReynolds signed DOE to his Life Room Label. She is nominated for four Doves tonight including Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year and Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year.

JORDAN ST. CYR

Jordan St. Cyr debuted his first full-length album in 2022 with Seattle-based label BEC Recordings - a selftitled ten-song project featuring “Fires” and “Weary Traveler,” both of which offer a pursuit of hope, even in our darkest moments. “Fires” went Top 5 followed by “Weary Traveler,” a poignant song for these uncertain times, and Jordan’s first No. 1 hit single. “My prayer is that these songs would bring comfort and joy to those who hear them,” Jordan says, “and that listeners would be more hopeful and open to the depths of God’s love for them knowing that their circumstances are not a reflection of how God feels about them. Rather, that their circumstances would reveal the closeness and nearness of the Holy Spirit.”

RYAN ELLIS

With songwriting talents that have allowed him to pen songs for Matt Redman, Natalie Grant, Meredith Andrews, and more, California-based worship artist and songwriter Ryan Ellis also wrote Chris Tomlin’s “Resurrection Power,” earning him a GMA Dove Award nomination and ASCAP’s “Most Performed Song” award in 2018. His debut self-titled album with Provident Entertainment/Sony Music is packed with influences from pop to R&B with depth-filled lyrics and worshipful introspection wrapped in bright melodies. “I have a deep love for Jesus and the way that songs draw people in to experience Him, to be inspired and encouraged, and ultimately to let them know that they are loved,” Ellis says. “Music is the language that everyone can understand, and it’s all I know how to do.”
