GOWEEKLY 30 2016 HOROSCOPE

ARIES

March, 21 - April, 19 The love and romance department should be going pretty well for you now. This is the time to probe more deeply into your current affair with that person who catches your eye. There's a greater sensitivity to your emotions and you could find yourself holding back a bit more than usual.

TAURUS

Famous Leo

Glennsyl Chucho Albertina Born: July 30, 1983

LEO

July, 23 - August, 22 Be selective when it comes to expressing your passion. Remember that less is more. You don't have to use a tremendous number of bells and whistles in order to get your point across. Let your actions be minimal but meaningful. You can say a great deal with few words. There's more to your glance than meets the eye. The unwary prey has no chance against your hypnotic stare. Wellness You may feel a little insecure when it comes to your close relationships. Don't feel as though you need to have all the right answers - that's a classic worry brought on by this transit. Focus instead on what you are feeling, and don't worry about finding the right words. Make sure that you are getting the exercise you need, or the feeling of frustration will only increase. Aerobic exercise will oxygenate your blood and lift your spirits.

2

April, 20 - May, 20 Your incredible passion and creativity are taking center stage. It's also quite possible that there's a great restlessness within you egging you on to take things to the next level. Combine your powers of dedication with your flair for the dramatic to accomplish whatever it is your heart desires.

GEMINI

May, 21 - June, 20 You may be feeling a bit reserved, especially when it comes to issues involving love and romance. Follow your instincts and know that your hesitation isn't unfounded. Sometimes it's good to slow down and question the road you're on.

SCORPIO

October, 23 - November, 22 When it comes to love and romance, you may find yourself in a bit of a pickle. There's a request for greater commitment now. You may be unsure about how to respond. You may hesitate to give up the sense of freedom that you hold so dear.

SAGITTARIUS

November, 23 - December, 21 Your romantic, sensitive nature comes alive and you may find yourself searching for the security of a close lover. You're apt to be pickier than usual - not just anyone will do anymore. There is a longing within you for the company of someone who shares your deep intuitive understanding of people, emotions, and life in general.

"Try the best you can to relax" CANCER -

CAPRICORN

June, 21 - July, 22 Reclaim control of things that might be holding you back now. You may find that there's an element of restriction to the day that's keeping you from getting where you want to be. Try the best you can to relax and stabilize your emotions.

December, 22 - January, 19 Tension in your romantic life is apt to well up. More than likely, there are certain responsibilities that you feel you have to attend to that take you away from your intimate experience with another. Whether or not you're currently involved in a romantic partnership, the day's energy is likely to stir up issues regarding love and romance.

VIRGO

AQUARIUS

CANCER

August, 23 - September, 22 In general, your spirit is upbeat, freedom loving, and adventurous. However, you might find that it's a bit more intense and possibly somber, especially when it comes to romantic issues.

LIBRA

September, 23 - October, 22 It's important for you not to overanalyze every little detail of your situation now, especially when it comes to love and romance issues. You could be jumping to ridiculous conclusions based purely on circumstantial evidence. Don't lose sleep over things that you don't even know to be true.

January, 20 - February, 18 You could be feeling the pressure of time now. At this point in your life you may be more aware than ever of your limited time left on this planet. Perhaps you're thinking more about love and romance and how much they mean to you.

PISCES

February, 19 - March, 20 Situations regarding love and romance are likely to get much heavier and more intense now. Are you ready to make a deeper commitment to the one you love? It may be quite hard for you to make a solid commitment because you could be wary of the freedom you'll lose.

Zjanthony Louisa wins gold!

Michelle’s powerful speech On July 25, The First Lady, Michelle Obama, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia to endorse Hillary Clinton. Michelle Obama delivered one of the most powerful and emotional speeches during this election. She couldn't help but let her emotions show after speaking the words of waking up every morning "in a house that was built by slaves," and seeing the opportunities her daughters have today. "And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters, now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States," she continued. Go Michelle!

Punda Thursday Vibes If you haven’t heard yet, now you know; Every Thursday Punda hosts a night full of fun, music and shopping. Here’s why I think Punda should be Thursday’s hotspot of the island. By: Shari Jourdain

"Punda looks fresh again" Authentic

Punda is simply authentic. It is the heart of Curaçao where cultural events occur, it’s on the must-see list of every tourist, and not to mention it’s a historical place. I always hear everyone talk about how Punda used to be so vivid but seemed to be left behind more and more each year. After the reconstruction, Punda looks fresh again and now is the perfect time to enjoy it in its true glory.

Good vibes With music, bites, drinks, and maybe even fireworks, it’s obvious you’ll be in a good mood! An event like Punda Thursday Vibes is great for meeting new people or hanging out with friends and family. You know where to find me each Thursday… see you there!

Low in calories

A dash of sugar-like

Sweetness Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray two (8-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray; dust bottom and sides with flour. Set aside.

Carrot Cake Ingredients • • • • • • • • • •

2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 4 large eggs 1 cup vegetable oil 1 cup SPLENDA® Sugar Blend 2 3/4 cups shredded carrots 1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, well drained • 1 cup flaked coconut • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside. Beat eggs, vegetable oil, and SPLENDA® Sugar Blend at medium speed with an electric mixer until batter is smooth. Add flour mixture beating at low speed until blended. Fold in carrots, pineapple, walnuts, and coconut.

Splenda products have a lower caloric content than sugar. Splenda can be used as a replacement for table sugar in cooking and baking, and there are Splenda products packaged specifically for this purpose. Splenda uses pure sugar grown and harvested by farmers in Australia, Hawaii and Florida. From there, the sugar undergoes a transformation that turns it into an extraordinary sweetner, that taste just like sugar but isn’t sugar. To give Splenda the perfect level of sweetness in every serving, it’s mixed in simple corn-based ingredients which makes the products easy to measure. Splenda can be used in hundreds of delicious recipes. Try this recipe of one of our favorite cakes with a touch of Splenda Sugar Blend.

Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on a wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pans, and let cool completely. Spread cream cheese frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake, if desired.

GOWEEKLY 30 2016 COVER STORY

Tras dj’e brel k’un pia

Benjamin Martis Benjamin Martis, is a poet and actor, known for his unruly hair, and a pair of glasses with just one temple. During the years, he has taken part in many productions, including ‘E balada di pluisje’. He is a young individual, who believes that it’s never too late to realize your dreams. On August 3rd, he will present an artistic showcase at Teatro Luna Blou. Want to know more about Benjamin and his show? Read on... By: Sendeliz Gibbes | Photography: Pitopolo Who is Benjamin Martis? ‘’I am a young person, 24 years old, who likes to focus on people, and spend time with people. As an individual, we all have something to contribute to everyone around us. Benjamin is someone who loves people.’’

What are you going to study, and why did you choose this course? ‘’I will study Theater and Arts in New York. After studying to become an administrative and judicial assistant

8

for 3 years, I started performing again, and fell back in love with art. I stopped my previous course, because I felt miserable. When I started performing again in the theater, I got the opportunity to do the play ‘E balada di pluisje’. We performed 120 shows over a period of 9 months. This enlightened me on how theater can influence and inspire the entire community. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and that by playing the role of someone in a play, you can truly understand what that person or character is going

through. For me, theater is the means by which I can understand a person, and tell a story, that others might not be able to tell.’’

How did you develop the idea to collect the funds needed to go study in New York? ‘’My parents are very humble. I was brought up in a house with 3 other siblings, but after a while we became a family of 8 after some of my siblings had their own kids. We didn’t have a big budget to cover big financial

COVER STORY GOWEEKLY 30 2016

expenses, so I thought to myself; how can I cover the costs of my education? I decided to put on a showcase of everything that I had learned over the years as an artist. I wanted to show the community what I can do, and what I can still learn, so that they know what I can offer them when I return.’’

The title of the show is 'Tras dj’e brel k’un pia'. What’s the story behind the title? ‘’The story behind it is that I am very unlucky when it comes to my glasses. I get home, and go to sleep without taking them off, and wake up with a broken pair the next morning. So I would always end up with glasses with just one temple (leg), and people would notice. It stands for the guy who everyone always saw with the broken glasses, and what was going on in his mind. What’s hiding behind the glasses with one temple? Benjamin Martis.’’

‘’My mission is to be able to sustain myself as an artist"

What can we expect on August 3rd at Teater Luna Blou? ‘’You can expect different art forms like poetry, acting, rap, dance, and special guests. It’s going to be a hodgepodge of different art forms, which will help me achieve a certain totality when it comes to the explanation of what goes on in my mind. That basically boils down to knowing what you want in life and following your dreams. To study in the US is one of my dreams, and it doesn’t matter what your age is, as long as you’re still alive, you can achieve that dream.’’

You are a young person who believes that it’s never too late to achieve your dreams. What would you like to achieve as an artist? ‘’My mission is to be able to sustain myself as an artist. In Curaçao, a lot of people think that as an artist you cannot sustain yourself. I want to do that, sustain myself, and help others achieve this as well. I want to shine a light on the fact that in Curaçao, you can be what you want to be. You create your own opportunities, if the market doesn’t exist, create it yourself."

Today Despite its slavery history, today Mangazina di Rei is a cultural and educative center. You are able to participate in tours where the guides will tell you all the interesting and impressive stories that have happened. You get a taste of what it was like living in Bonaire back then, and how it is now. Are you a culture lover? Then don’t miss out on this museum.
