March 21 to April 19 You may have a lot to do, but something unexpected will distract you. It might be best to test the waters before making any commitments or promises, especially if they’re important. Something could occur that would mean you’re unable to follow through.

Popular Virgo

Adam Sandler Born: September 9, 1966

FUN FACTS - His nickname is Sandman - He was a finalist to play Willy Wonka in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but the role went to Johnny Depp - It's been rumored that in all his years of stand-up, Sandler has never written a joke

VIRGO

May 21 to June 20 There’s a focus on your home zone, so the coming weeks could offer a chance to get your place looking shipshape and fabulous. This might involve removing clutter, redecorating, or reorganizing, all of which you’ll take in stride. Brace yourself, this week could bring a family issue to surface. So make sure you know how to handle it properly and keep your emotions in check.

"work hard, and play hard" TAURUS -

September 23 to October 22 You just aren’t likely to connect with anyone who isn’t willing to verbally engage. There are a couple different romantic options to choose from and while different, one isn’t better than the other. Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too. October 23 to November 21 Don't be surprised if you're a little weepy lately. Let yourself cry if you need to - it can be cleansing. Try not to wallow too much, as things always get better. Take good care of yourself and remember, 'The glass is always half full'. November 22-December 21 Obsessive thinking may be something you need to look at. Common areas for such behaviors are in the pursuit of money, power, success, and romance. There's a fine line between determination and obsession. If you fixate on the same thing day after day, it may be time to talk with someone about it. An expert can help you see what you don't want to see.

CAPRICORN

December 22 to January 19 Think everything through from decisions to projects to contracts. Read the fine print more than once. When it comes to relationships, avoid trusting too quickly.

August 23 to September 22 This is not the time to hold back but to openly express your needs, wishes, desires - and opinions. It might be wise to refrain from committing to an idea or opportunity until the weekend or early next week. You’ll also have a clearer idea of what’s what.

PISCES

You have every chance of making a significant breakthrough in your most cherished relationship, but seem to have placed yourself behind a wall of glass. Your love can see you, but just can't touch. Do you have to wait till your pride finally gives way before you reach out and say how you really feel?

2

April 20 to May 20 Our motto is, ‘work hard, and play hard’, so this week make sure you execute both beautifully! Someone you don’t see often could unexpectedly show up on your doorstep, and this could be an excuse for a get-together or grand outing.

June 21 to July 22 It looks like the coming weeks are going to be very busy, especially when it comes to general administrative tasks, writing, research, and online activities. This can also prove very rewarding and bring many opportunities to get your message out to the world. July 23 to August 22 You can persuade your date one way or the other by presenting the cold, hard facts. You’re used to using your charm to get what you want, but it isn’t the only weapon you’ll need. Your best-laid plans could change at a moment’s notice, so have other options available. Turning left when you planned to turn right might not be so bad.

go_weekly

January 20 to February 18 It’s time to take a more drastic approach to solving a problem, don’t you think? Remember though, drastic does not mean being destructive. Be careful. Think things through and put your emotions to the side on this one. Run any ideas past a trusted friend. February 19 to March 20 Tap into your creativity to unblock your emotions. This can be a more powerful tool than you realize. Creativity is a big part of you - almost as big as communication. Your emotions are linked to these, and all are interacting beneath the surface. Express yourself through creativity and by talking to someone from your inner circle.

Gorilla Snot in Ariana's hair!

©Justin Niessen

The star is clearly in love with the high ponytail. To achieve her go-to look, the singer seeks the help of celebloved Chris Appleton known for his ability to create super sleek hair.

‘Ontdek Curaçao’ on RTL4!

His secret ingredient? Gorilla’s snot for $3! Although the yellow, sticky substance, referred to as 'Gorilla Snot', doesn't sound like something you'd want to buy, the hairstylist says it's worth it. The substance, which he uses sparingly, is for the small details: your baby hairs, edges and braids.

Curaçao Tourist Board Europe together with Video To Go productions are currently filming on location in Curacao a five episode show called ‘Ontdek Curaçao’ (Discover Curaçao) to illustrate this. Our very own Justin Niessen (who lives in the Netherlands and recently opened his very own restaurant ‘Just’ in Rotterdam) is co-hosting the show according to Mariska Fortes of CTB Europe. He’s responsible for taking the viewer on a culinary journey on the island, cooking for various tourists at breath taking locations. The show also interviews different individuals of our society to give the tourist another perspective of our little ‘rock in the sea’. ‘Ontdek Curaçao’ will be broadcasted on October 21st on Dutch television broadcaster RTL4.

4

The hit show ‘Narcos’ recently released its 3rd season on Netflix. I was taken back when i suddenly heard the words ‘Masha danki’ during episode 5. Next thing you know, DEA agent Peña portrayed by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, is mentioning our Island Curaçao. Although they never filmed here, it is amazing to see a variety of aerial shots of Handelskade, and other gorgeous locations! Episode 6 also features a chase scene which supposedly takes place in Punda or Otrobanda. You can clearly see that it is filmed somewhere else, probably Cartagena, Colombia. Either way, we should all be proud to be portrayed in a hit show such as ‘Narcos’ which is watched all over the world!

Curaçao is more than just sea, sand and the scorching sun. We offer tourists, culture, music and a wide variety of dishes that will make you lick your fingers to the bone.

Luigi Chavarria

Bringing Paris to the sun

8

COVER STORY GOWEEKLY 36 2017

Paris is the city of love, culture, statues and food. It is an exquisite city in every sense of the word. I visited Paris for the second time in 2003 and had my first macaron. They were good, but to me, forgettable. I recently tried these pastries again and I instantly fell in love. The coconut inspired French macaron (the one I just tried) is something that can be compared to a divine intervention. The coconut flavor makes me think of a Caribbean paradise, yet the softness and adequate crispiness of the texture with the combination of other ingredients, instantly transports me to Paris. This was all thanks to Pâtissier Luigi Chavarria. Sounds fancy, I know, but no need to panic, I’ll explain. A Pâtissier is an extravagant word for a French cake baker. You know the French, just being French… By: Miguel Gonzalez Perret-Gentil Luigi knew by the age of 8 what his career would be like. Not a fireman, not a cop, not even a Doctor. No, he wanted to be a cake baker. His mom’s baking is the reason why. “I love to eat but I cannot make a living out of eating, so I had to do something with that. I cannot smell like meat and fish all day, so baking it is. My hobby became my job. A job was described to me, as something you would do all day and get paid for, by the end of the month. But what if I could get paid for something that I love to do? You will probably be great at it as well, because you love to do it! So I do that 10 to 12 hours a day with the biggest smile (and cake crumbs) on my face”! He was supposed to attend a baking school in the Netherlands to become a baker. But he knew in his heart that it would not fulfill his culinary needs. “I was in love with France. The culinary art pretty much comes from there. I wanted to study the origin of the kitchen. I wanted to feel it, taste it, and live it in Paris”.

"I wanted to study the origin of the kitchen. I wanted to feel it, taste it, and live it in Paris" Angelique from Angelica’s Delights Patisserie convinced him to go to France in 2010. “So I sat down with my mom and pretty much begged her and made her see that although I was only 17, that this was the only thing I wanted to do for the rest of my life”. As expensive as it was, she did the only thing a good mother would do. He was accepted at Le Cordoun Blue Paris. One of the most prestigious schools in the world. Luigi, the first ‘Yu di Korsou’ to attend the school, excelled above all expectations.

J'aime Paris Luigi was in a constant state of ecstasy after graduation. He was living his dream, while working at Ladurée.

Ladurée is a French luxury bakery and sweets maker house created in 1862. It is one of the world's best-known premier sellers of the double-decker

macaron. At night he would walk in disbelieve through Rue De Rivoli, inhaling all the scents the Parisian night offered. In his eyes he made it, but that quickly changed. “After the first few weeks, colleagues made it hard for me to work with them. I didn’t receive the same treatment as others would. I wasn’t French. I felt

what you’re doing. It is by far the most fascinating thing I learned but also the most challenging. I think that is why I love it. It correlates with my experience in France. I need to go back each year to recharge, but after my experience, after feeling what it is like to be excluded, it made me realize how fortunate I am to do what I love here at home”.

The best is yet to come

excluded. I denied it all, "it’s all in my head". I lived in Paris, I had the perfect job, but after a few months of denial it became real. After 3 months I left”. He was offered job opportunities at other prestigious bakeries but he wanted to come home. He felt defeated. Disappointed in himself, but this unraveling of events is what led him to succeed as a man.

La Vie en Rose He’s a perfectionist in every sense of the word and you can clearly see that through his detail to attention in all of his pastries. It took him about 6 months to experiment with different sugary concoctions. He had to adapt his French inspired pastries to accommodate the thousands of taste

buds here on the Island. It has been a pleasant storm, from the moment he opened his doors on January 1st 2013. Orders keep rolling in, craving to try these sinful yet much desired delicacies. From his signature chocolate cake to his famous macarons which are by far his favorite to make. “I have a love hate relationship with these bad boys. I love to make them, but I hate it. It’s super easy if you know

luigi-eduardo@hotmail.com

His success keeps on growing one bite at a time. At the moment customers can pick up orders at his kitchen. But not for long. He is well aware of the steps he needs to take to open his own French inspired bakery. The idea is to have a place where you can be transported to 1950’s Paris and enjoy a perfectly baked macaron or a slice of cheese cake or anything else offered on the menu. “Ladurée inspired me. They have allure. The minute you enter one of their shops you simply forget about everything you know. You enter heaven! Imagine a 1950’s themed French bakery where everything is correctly decorated and served. The French can be considered a lot of things, but if there is one thing they do right it’s this. They do it with charm and elegance and that is exactly what I want La Vie en Rose to be”. Like I said, these are the future plans, so just hold on, it I’ll be worth it. In the meantime simply dig your teeth into these wonderfully, delicious delicacies. Believe me, they are worth every single calorie!

Mexico The first meal of the day is hearty, with dishes like chilaquiles (left) and huevos rancheros being popular choices. Sweet rolls and coffee are lighter options.

Breakfast around the world Bored of the usual breakfast choices available to you in the morning? Here’s a look at what others eat around the world!

A breakfast in Japan is usually light, savory, and simple. A bowl of miso soup and rice or rice porridge is often the main part of the meal, sometimes accompanied by a piece of cooked fish and pickled vegetables - and, of course, a cup of green tea.

12

Ghana

Jamaica

This is a deviation from the light food kinda breakfast. Waakye with spaghetti, gari, salad, egg, wele and meat is the ideal food for a lot of Ghanaians.

Ackee, a type of fruit that looks like scrambled eggs when it's cooked, is a favorite Jamaican breakfast food. It can be accompanied by fried plantains, salted fish, and fresh fruit.
