Season: 5-8th August, 8pm Matinee Sat 8 August, 1pm Cost: $15 per student Venue: Drama Theatre

One of Australia’s best loved actors, Noni Hazlehurst, stars in this complex and gritty, provocative and beautiful new work written especially for her. Christy has found herself at the fringe of the world. Homeless, ageing, living on the outskirts of suburbia, she attracts the curiosity of the locals. Christy is not shy of an audience, and amuses herself with telling anyone who’ll listen the story of her life. But beneath her wild exaggerations and fantastic tales of loves lost and struggles overcome, there are the haunting truths that she would rather forget. Warning: Contains strong coarse language and adult themes. Children under 15 years not recommended. Melbourne Theatre Company presents

I Call My Brothers

By Jonas Hassen Khemiri Translated by Rachel Willson-Broyles

In the city a bomb explodes. The shock waves spread out until everyone is on edge. Through this wary city Amor walks. He’s done no wrong but he looks the type. He has errands to run, people to see. All he has to do is act normally. But today nothing is normal.

Date: 18th May, 1pm & 7pm Cost: $15 per student Venue: Drama Theatre

As a masterful, non-naturalistic ensemble piece, I Call My Brothers is Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s personal response to a notorious suicide bombing in Stockholm. Contains limited swearing and language that some might find offensive.

Cranky Bear

MSO Classic Kids

by Patch Theatre Company adapted from the best-selling book, The Very Cranky Bear, by Nick Bland

The Happiness Box

Conductor Brett Kelly Supported by the Geelong Friends of MSO The Happiness Box tells the story of three animal friends as they journey through the jungle on a quest to discover the secret of happiness. This delightful tale was written for Changi Gaol’s child prisoners in 1942 by Australian Prisoner of War (POW) David Griffin, and illustrated by fellow POW Leslie Greener.

Flamboyant friends Zebra, Lion and Moose each think they know how to solve the Bear’s crankiness but their shenanigans just make him even crankier! It takes a humble and empathetic Sheep with an open heart and listening ear to solve the Bear’s woes.

It has been thoughtfully scored for young audiences by award-winning composer Bryony Marks to capture the sense of wonder, trepidation and delight of the friends’ adventure.

Cranky Bear is a rollicking cabaret-style show by Patch Theatre Company for 4 – 8 year olds packed with music, laughter and mayhem.

Greener’s beautiful illustrations from the original book will accompany the narration and music.

work experience The Geelong Performing Arts Centre offers work experience placements for secondary school and tertiary students wanting to pursue a career in the arts. The program offers students an opportunity to learn about event management and arts administration through practical hands on involvement, in the Geelong Schools Music and Movement Festival and GPAC’s Poppykettle Children’s Festival. Due to the large number of applications received and the limited time frame available to offer work placement, we are not able to accept all students who apply. Online applications close at the end of March. Schools interested in obtaining work experience placements at GPAC should contact Geelong Regional Vocational Education Council (GRVEC). Suitable for students in year 10 to tertiary.

bus subsidy Schools from rural areas and disadvantaged schools throughout the region can apply for a bus subsidy. This subsidy assists student in accessing the gpac:ed program by contributing to the cost of bus hire to attend shows.

venue hire All GPAC venues including our theatres, studios, meeting spaces and public foyers are available to schools for hire. So for your next school concert, graduation, staff function, presentation or meeting, consider the options available at GPAC. Plus we can arrange catering for events of any size and supply all your audio visual needs.
