The Government Inspector

By Simon Stone after Nikolai Gogol Nikolai Gogol was a nutcase. Bonkers. And in between bouts of nuttiness he just happened to write what are unquestionably the two funniest plays of the nineteenth century, The Diary of a Madman and The Government Inspector. Now, a new generation of comic geniuses sink their teeth into The Government Inspector. Under the direction of the ever-inventive Simon Stone, this ridiculous, laugh-out-loud comedy will take a mad-cap turn toward twenty-first century Australia and may not entirely resemble the play Gogol wrote in 1836. The Government Inspector is an implausible masterpiece for our implausible times.

Yellow Moon By David Greig

It’s Friday night. Stag Lee is 17, bored and figuring out how to make fast money. Silent Leila is at the all-night superstore feeling stupid and ugly, wishing she lived inside the pages of a celebrity magazine. Suddenly, after a chance meeting and a shocking life-changing event, the duo find themselves heading north in search of refuge. Marooned in an unforgiving landscape, Leila and Lee are forced to hunker down and confront who they really are. Yellow Moon seamlessly flows from narration to poetry, from imagination to reality, from brutality to hope. Played on a bare stage by four actors, Yellow Moon is a captivating journey of self-discovery with a dark heart.

Oceania; a Nation perpetually at war, where cameras watch every move and Thought Police roam the streets. By day, Winston Smith is an editor at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history to align the past with the radical political agenda of the ruling party and its leader, Big Brother. By night, Winston pursues a forbidden love affair with the mysterious Julia in an attempt to rebel against the oppressive regime and maintain some control over his otherwise totally controlled life.
