1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
4 his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
13 you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will deliver him and honor him.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Faith and Education
The month of August usually signals the downslide of summer, and many will be preparing for the return back to school, particularly our college students. The freshmen are about to embark on the next journey of their lives. While this is an exciting time it can also be a little uneasy for many students who for the first time will be living away from the security of home. This is a good opportunity for parents to remind their college student that God will be with them every step of the way. I wanted to share with our new college students part of an article taken from www.wcwtk.com (What Christians Want to Know).
How To Be A Faithful Christian While
In College -by Derek Hill College is a time of life that unfortunately changes many men and women. Kids out of high school get excited about being out of mom and dad’s house and going to live away in a dorm to finally be free. They anticipate new friendships and activities and may even have good intentions of staying faithful to God. How can students be faithful to God while in college? The main point is simple. Keep doing the things that have made you stronger in the Lord each day. What things?
Be Intentional With The Word Only true knowledge and wisdom is found in the Bible. College students get bombarded with many things that contradict the Bible while in class. It is a must that they return to real truth, the Bible, daily. In John 17:17 Jesus says, “ Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth.” When we are reading the Bible we receive truth and are sanctified. Sanctified is defined as “to set apart to a sacred purpose” in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. Holding fast to God’s Word keeps us set apart because when we saturate our minds with God’s Word, we naturally will want to follow it because we have made it a priority in our lives. Not only does the Word do this, but it also gives us ammunition against the schemes of Satan. When you read about Jesus being tempted in the wilderness, you will find that every single time Satan tempted Jesus, Jesus fired Scripture right back at him. Ephesians 6:17b describes the Word as a weapon, “And the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Meditating on the Word will keep any college Christian on the right track.
Keep A Daily Prayer Life
It is so important that students make time every single day to pray to God. I
don’t mean a quick prayer while driving to class. I mean a time set aside where they are alone in their room with no distractions. When you are spending time with Him in prayer you are telling God, “I love You! I need to hear Your voice.” Prayer also keeps us “others minded”. If we aren’t making time for God, we naturally gravitate to pleasing our own desires. However, God speaks to us in prayer. He puts people in our minds to pray for. Parents, pray for your children in college. Students, pray for your unbelieving friends, that they may find true joy in the Lord. For your Christian friends at school, think like this: “I thank God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all, making my prayer with joy.”
(Philippians 1:3-4) Prayer will bring a refreshing sensation over you, even in the darkest times of school. God is seeking you always, so give Him your undivided attention through prayer each and every day!
Make Christian Friends
God made us a family for a reason. Find some brothers and sisters in Christ that can hold you accountable. Get involved in a Bible study and enjoy some deep conversations about the Bible. Spend time with your friends and really get to know them. Pray with them and for them. Serve with them. Jesus promised that He is with us when we agree together and ask together in His name. “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in Heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.”
(Matthew 18:19-20) You will remain faithful when you remain friends with Christian brothers and sisters. College can be a tough time to stay faithful, but if you are intentional, you
EPPSJackie
will do just fine. Make time to read your Bible. Make time for prayer. Make time to serve others. Make time to sing praises to God. Spend time with fellow Christians. All of these things will help you stay the course and finish the race well!
My message to our new college students:
“Live your life in pursuit of the dream God put inside of you- a dream only you can pursue and only you can fulfill. Today is the day to rise up and claim the promises of God. You must hear God’s voice until it becomes louder than any other voice in your life. You are engineered by God to be a success. God’s Word gives birth to your destiny. You are more than what you see in the mirror. You are a Designer’s Original . . . created for a purpose. God is in you to produce excellence. God designed you perfectly for the assignment on your life. Never forget that you are where you are today because God has kept you and sustained you. You can do what God says you can do, you can have what God says you can have. Our God is limitless!”

Recipients of An Honorary Doctorate
Morehouse College, Atlanta GA
Dr. Taylor A. Williams
When you are passionate about what you do, especially when it’s for others, you don’t do it for recognition. You do it because it’s in your heart to change the lives of others. I believe my purpose in life is to make a positive impact in the lives of others by encouraging a healthy lifestyle. I believe in the importance of balancing physical, nutritional and mental health. For the past 12 years, I have made it my mission to not only encourage healthy lifestyle choices but to become a subject matter expert myself in those areas. I have earned certifications in Applied Behavior Analysis, Mental Health First Aid for youth, Group Fitness Instruction, Behavior Change Specialist, and Food Handler. To be nominated for an Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism is not only an honor but a testament to my dedication to serving others. It was an honor to walk alongside my sister at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2024 to receive my diploma. This experience was life changing as I was met with many impactful men and women that I hope to partner with in the future. It can be difficult at times to continue a journey where it seems like no one is listening to the message you want them to take heed of, but when God plants something in you, He will make a way for it to thrive. I continued to educate myself so that WHEN the opportunity came for me to raise awareness on a larger scale, I would be prepared. As a graduate student I conducted research on how to use behavior analysis to teach nutrition. I then developed a nutrition curriculum for school-aged children where the objective was to teach nutritional concepts, for students to learn to imitate recipes, and to generalize healthy eating behaviors in their homes. In 2022, I published a children’s book called Healthy Heroes Cookbook because for 10 years of my journey children were not receiving my message that eating healthy was important. God inspired me to have characters in the book go on a journey of becoming Healthy Heroes so that kids could get excited about not only eating healthy meals but cooking together with their families. I implemented my pilot curriculum using the recipes from my children’s cookbook and used behavior analytic strategies to teach nutrition in a creative way and meet the specific learning needs of the students.
Dr. Nakia A. Williams, h.c.
It is my life’s purposed passion to help others. From the tender age of 7 to the present, I learned to serve others in my church ministry, the First Abyssinia Baptist Church. However, after years of church and community service I began to burn out. I then, developed an unhealthy mindset toward those whom I’d helped and others who asked for my assistance. My thoughts toward serving others were, “People are never satisfied, quick to criticize and slow to say thank you.” This was a direct result of allowing myself to serve in fields that I was not planted. Just because you are able to do something does not mean God has assigned our hands to do it. We must be mindful that there is a reason and season for everything. Oft times God creates a need that only He can fulfill. So, when we insert ourselves where God has not planted, we take away the need He has created for them to see Him and not you. We as Christians are called to SERVE, not SAVE!
After years of walking in my purpose to help others to become financially secure, independent thinkers, and one’s own “Cheerleader” through coaching and mentorship, I recognize my personal limitations and not to pour out without getting poured into. I surround myself with people with similar mindsets with an open heart to encourage and support others.
As I journey to continue to make an impact in the lives of others, I was given the opportunity to speak to teens on self-esteem. As a result, I developed a positive body image program called “Reflections: Looking Within.” The purpose of this program is to help young girls identify who they are on the inside, affirm who they are, and to generalize positive self-talk in their daily lives. Now more than ever we must prioritize our mental health and many teens struggle to navigate that. This prompted me to develop mental health workshops to provide students with coping skills and the ability to advocate for healthy self-care practices in their own lives as well as their peers. My journey continues as I have now become a partner with the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland to use my programs to help young leaders to earn their badges. I am pursuing my Board Certification and License as a Behavior Analyst to further support others on their journey to make healthy lifestyle changes. My hope is that when I cross paths with anyone, who I am, my story, or my gifts can inspire and change their lives for the better.
I never thought I’d be able to say like Maya Angelou, “I wouldn’t give anything for my journey”. I’m savoring each new day of my life’s journey to help those willing to be guided on a course of rediscovery to achieve their life’s purpose through leadership and training. If there is an open door, I walk through it.
On May 18th, 2024 I was the proud recipient of an Honorary Doctorate degree in Humanitarianism, from Global International Alliance. I walked the stage in Baltimore, MD at Concord Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Matthew L. Jones. I also had the honor of walking across the stage at Morehouse in Atlanta Georgia along with many great leaders like King Yahweh (Global Peace Advocate), award-winning recording artists and entrepreneurs, i.e. Jekalyn Carr and many others.
Global International Alliance is an accredited organization founded by Ambassador Dr. Lenora Peterson Maclin, PhD. I was nominated by Dr. Stephanie Poplar, radio personality of a segment on Praise 106, Realtor, Founder of “We Care Baltimore” and owner to several other businesses and non-profits. Dr. Poplar and I joined forces in the common goal to assist lower income to moderate income potential First Time Homebuyers secure affordable housing.
As a pre-teen I watched as both my parents simultaneously attended evening and weekend classes to earn their Doctorate degrees, and they brought me along. In that season it showed me the dedication and discipline needed to succeed, following in the footsteps of my mother Pastor, Rev. Dr. Katie Williams, an example of what a servant should be. One who would not hesitate to do what she or he would ask of someone else. My father, the esteemed Rev. Dr. Anthony R. Williams, is spearheading a campaign called “Encouragement Enforcers”. A mission to encourage and empower others, allowing them to see their value to others and Christ.
As for this Honorary Doctoral recipient, Dr. Nakia Antionette Williams, I will continue using my gifts of giving, song, service and encouragement to support others as I fulfill what God has designed my hands to do.

Celebration Statement
Rev. Dr. Anthony R. Williams
On July 10th, in 1994, the First Abyssinia Baptist Church marched into its new edifice. The support of the then pioneering membership afforded us the opportunity to collaborate with individuals like Arnold Williams, accountant, navigator of our quarter of milliondollar financing from the Harbor Bank. Construction Manager, Andre Brown, Mr. Phillip, Chief Architect and Emerson Dorsey, Lawyer who also came along side First Abyssinia Baptist Church’s Joint Board to implement the God given vision of Bishop Rev. Dr. Anthony R. Williams, Senior Pastor.
In continued service to God and the surrounding communities we are purposed to bring to fruition the next phase of the vision of our multi-use lifestyle facility adjacent to the church, for a total of five thousand square feet that will encompass “Tomorrow’s Leaders Christian Academy” for Pre-K to 5th grade and Community Engagement Programs. The First Abyssinia Baptist Church is in
a pivotal area surrounded by the West Baltimore corridor that is an oasis of contemporary architecture and the Edmondson Village shopping center and Housing Developments. The esteemed Coppin State University Community Renaissance, The Inner Harbor Expansion and the Red Line Light Rail down Edmondson Avenue that will facilitate easy access from the surrounding counties to the newly revitalized city under the direction of Governor Wes Moore. These changes will restore culture and access to inner church ministries where the “Harvest is plenty, but the Laborers are few.”
We thank our family and friends for their support throughout the years. We recognize those who have paved the way for us, that are now with our Heavenly Father. As we move into this next chapter of
God’s plans for First Abyssinia Baptist Church, come and be discipled and join us as we serve in fertile ground to revitalize and empower others through “Transforming lives, and to Building a stronger community.”
Special thanks to Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Jones, Pastor of Concord Baptist Church, for serving as the guest speaker for our 95th Church Anniversary and Mortgage Burning Ceremony.

Summer Blues
We are used to hearing about the winter blues, but the same thing can be attributed to the spring and summer months. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) can be an issue for some and in the summer, it is called “reverse SAD”.
According to Harvard Women’s Health Watch, depressive symptoms can spike as the weather changes from cold to warm to hot. The summer seasonal affective disorder symptoms include irritability, anxiety, low energy, sleep changes, appetite changes, and feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness. These symptoms are like those
found in depression and can become a trigger for the manifestation of that disorder. If you were prone to SAD in the fall and winter, then you may have the same challenges in the warmer months. One of the differences is that weight gain may increase along with excessive sleeping.
There are a few triggers that may create the summer blues. These can include disrupted routines, hot temperatures, increased social activities, pressure to be outside especially when the weather changes and there is more opportunity for social interactions.
A few solutions to try if
you or a loved one gets the summer blues are to: revise routines and adjust for the increased social expectations, set boundaries, make time for yourself, join a support group, continue or start therapy, and exercise more.
Exercise helps to reduce stress and can be done alone or with others. Resist the urge to stay indoors and isolated. Choose what will work to help alleviate your low mood and seek professional advice from your doctor or a mental health professional. You can beat the summer blues by knowing the signs and then taking steps to alleviate and manage them.

Living Eternity- NOW!
Welcome August! I wanted to take a moment and share a message from Dr. Bill Winston. When I received this letter, it truly blessed me, and I pray it will do the same for you. I want to highlight several things throughout the letter that is sure to build your faith. The foundation scripture is found in Isaiah 57:15. The Message Bible States, “A message from the high and towering God, who lives in Eternity, whose name is Holy: “I live in the high and holy places, but also with the low spirited, the spirit-crushed, And what I do is put a new spirit in them, get them up and on their feet again.”
Dr. Bill Winston opens the letter by stating, “Eternity is not how long you live as some have thought. It Is the realm of the supernatural; where the laws of time, space and matter are no longer the boundaries of the believer. We the church, are living in eternal life NOW, not when we go to heaven. When we get a revelation of this, working miracles become as normal as breathing air.” Wow! I have to say, when I read this for the first time, I had to take a seat and ask God to widen my understanding. As I continued reading the letter things started becoming clearer. Let’s go a little deeper.
Dr. Bill Winston continues to say, “Jesus was constantly showing his disciples that they could live this eternal life Right NOW…living above the natural laws of this earth. Through faith, they could operate from this higher realm by supernaturally turning water into wine, walking on water, speaking to storms, cursing unfruitful fig trees, healing the sick, and even raising the dead-instantly. When we access eternity by faith, we are empowered to command this planet and everything in it to line up with Heaven’s original blueprint.” I don’t know about you, but wow that was a powerful revelation for me. Do you recognize that there is an original blueprint from Heaven that will cause the earth and everything in it to come into alignment when we walk in our God given authority, by FAITH!
When the disciples walked in this authority, Heaven’s blueprint was manifested on earth through the manifestation of walking on water, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc. It made me think are we really walking in the authority that God has given us? Reference John 14:12 when Jesus told the disciples, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I
do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” Dr. Bill Winston went on to say, “The earth was to be a copy of heaven. It is waiting to hear the commands of its Creator through his designated agents, the sons of God, which are you and me.” Please reference Matthew 6:10, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” My goodness, this is a revelation that we must take time to process. If we only depend on and operate from the earth’s supply, we will be limited. However, if we access by FAITH God’s supply through heaven, we are limitless!
In summary, Dr. Bill Winston expresses that we must understand that faith rules over time. He states, “Your faith now dictates the time and the desired outcome of what you will have and when you have it.” He goes on to say, “You can’t see time and get a miracle. Our life is no longer to be governed by the laws and limitations of the earth but by the laws and limitless supply of the Kingdom of Heaven.” I hope you would agree with me that it is time for us to tap into the limitless supply of God, consistently!
In addition to understanding that faith rules over time, Dr. Bill Winston also expresses that we must renew our mind, and trust that the world needs us. He states, “A key to unlocking the supernatural and living in eternity now is that you must first know who you are and your purpose for being here.” I agree with Dr. Bill Winston when he said, “You are a distributor of the solutions and provisions that God has already laid up in heaven for the earth and suffering humanity.” I hope you hear me; Heaven has the blueprint! Heaven is not in kayos or disarray trying to figure out what’s next, what’s new or what’s coming. For heaven, its already settled. Its time for us to stop limiting ourselves through the limitations of this world, but with confidence access the limitless supply of God by walking in our God given authority, by FAITH! I don’t know about you, but I am ready to walk in the limitless supply of God – NOW! This is a great time to give God thanks, that Heaven has the blueprint, and that blueprint will NOT fail us!

Who Do You Consider TURNER
I remember when I was in middle-school I auditioned for the cheer team, and I made the team. My mom told me to be mindful of her time. I had it all figured out. We had practice after school, and I would ride the school bus home. On game days my friend’s mom could bring me home or I could sleep over her house and go home in the morning. Typically, our games were on a Friday night, so I wasn’t missing much on Saturday. I had it all worked out. Well, this one game I remember like it was yesterday. My friend attended another school and typically our schools played at the same time. This time we didn’t; the schedule had changed, and my friend forgot to tell me that her school played first instead of the original time. My dad had dropped me off at the same time my friend and her family were walking out. I got nervous I had no ride home.
I remembered me and my mom’s conversation about considering her and her time. This particular game was on the eve of Thanksgiving and my mom was at home cooking and prepping the Thanksgiving meal. Once the game was over, I had to call my mom and ask her to pick me up from the game. Now before I left, she asked me do you have a ride home and I said yes, my friend’s mom said that she would take me. Since her game time had changed, she couldn’t bring me home. When I called my mom I felt anger,
frustration, and exhaustion in her voice. I knew at that moment I was in trouble. She couldn’t leave me out there and it was too dark for me to walk and way too far. If it was still daylight, she probably would have made me walk to teach me a lesson. She came and she said when she picked me up that she should whoop me for not being considerate of her time. I was so confused I told my mother I found out at the beginning of the game when I was walking in. She said at that moment I should’ve left and not cheered the middleschool playoff game. I should’ve left with my dad at that point because he asked how I was getting home when he saw that my friend was leaving, and I told him that I would figure it out. I tried really hard to figure it out and epically failed.
When my mom picked me up, she told me that she was too tired to whoop me and for my punishment I had to finish cooking Thanksgiving dinner because I interrupted her. At that moment I would have rather got a whipping, because I couldn’t boil water. She said that she wasn’t giving me any instructions either and that it better taste like hers. I was so terrified that I was going to mess up. I wanted my mother not to be upset with me. The pressure of making a dish that my family loved gave me much anxiety.
Fast forward to the present. I was talking with my daughter about a decision that she made to be a part of a musical. I shared with her that as she auditions and tries out for different events be considerate of me. I’m the one that will have to drive her around. On my way home from driving her I was talking to God and He shared with me how people don’t consider the sacrifice that He made for us and how they take His goodness, kindness and mercy for granted. We should remember what He’s done and be willing to share of His grace to others so that they can be drawn to Him. Remember to consider Him and what He has done for you. Then consider have you lived your life in consideration of Him.
Philippians 2:2-11 KJV, “Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

DAILY DEVOTIONS
(Excerpts
from NEW DAY FRESH START- by Brandie Manigault)
DAY 1
You have to know Him for yourself. There are times when the things that others have told you about Christ will suffice, but then there are times when only a personal revelation will do; something birthed out of your walk and talk with the Lord (relationship). This personal revelation will not only give you a different perspective and insight of the Lord, but it will teach you so much about yourself. A revelation of who He is will unlock the truth about who you are.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to spend a few extra minutes with Him cultivating your relationship. Learn more about Him and more about you.
Matthew 16:16-19, “Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
DAY 2
What do you do when you have done all that you know to do; you have sought counsel and asked for help and nothing has changed for you? You keep pushing. You keep moving forward. You stay persistent. You don’t stop until you see a change. There will be times when a setback comes and wants to knock you down, but you have to remain strong and focused on what you want. You will get your desired results if you keep going until you get the right answer from the right person.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to not give up until you are satisfied with the results of your pursuit.
Matthew 17:15-18 NIV, “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.” “Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
DAY 3
Once we get into a routine our day-to-day life does not take much to maintain. We know who to call at what time, which bus to take, and which prayer to pray when someone asks; but what happens when what we’ve been doing doesn’t seem to be effective? There will be instances where a greater effort is required of us in order to get the job done; when we have to take what we have already been doing and add to it. It may require us
to call more to check on family members or get to work earlier to finish the project. We may even have to pray differently. Some things will only change with a greater effort made.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to evaluate what’s working for you and what’s not and then try to put forth a greater effort to see things change.
Matthew 17:19-21, “Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
DAY 4
It is inevitable that offenses will come. It is what we choose to do with that offense that will make all the difference. Offense undealt with will fester on the inside like a poison to your body. It will breed resentment, hatred, and disdain. It will alter your mood and your attitude especially in the presence of the one that hurt you. Offense must be addressed in order to preserve the essence of who you are. The end result may or may not be a lifetime friendship, but you will have put yourself in a position to move forward by doing so.
Challenge: Today, challenge yourself to address the issues that may be uncomfortable to deal with. Talk through your issues and make it right.
Matthew 18:15 (MSG), “If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him — work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend.”
DAY 5
When we try to change our situations in our own strength, we quickly find that it is pointless and a waste of our time and energy. In and of ourselves we do not have the ability, power, endurance, or wisdom to effectively change anything, but when we surrender all of what we do have (our willingness) God can turn everything around for us. Without Him enabling us in everything we set out to do, both large and small, we can’t do anything at all.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to take your hands off of things, and let God change it for you.
Matthew 19:25-26, “When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

What You Need To Know About Weight Loss Drugs
You heard about semaglutide for weight loss. Oprah Winfrey, news anchor Gayle King, and Elon Musk have discussed using this drug to lose weight. Even international weight loss programs, such as Weight Watchers, have supported using semaglutide to support weight loss. Is this medication safe to use? What do you need to know about weight loss drugs before you consider using them?
Semaglutide, distributed under the trade names of Ozempic® and Wegovy®, is an injectable medication developed to reduce blood sugar levels in individuals with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Semaglutide increases the feeling of being satisfied or makes you feel full, therefore suppressing appetite. It reduces the feeling of hunger in the brain and slows down the emptying of the stomach, so people feel less hungry and eat less. Semaglutide helps to increase insulin production in the pancreas, which decreases blood sugar levels. The combined effects of reduced sugar levels and weight loss are positive outcomes for the diabetic patient. However, many physicians began to prescribe semaglutide to patients struggling with obesity because of its weight loss effect. Ozempic® is usually prescribed to reduce blood sugar levels. Wegovy® is a lower dose of semaglutide and is prescribed to patients who are significantly overweight and have associated health risk factors.
It’s important to know that semaglutide is generally prescribed for an extended period to stabilize blood sugar levels. However, the secondary effect of weight loss is beneficial to many individuals, including those with type 2 diabetes. The injections must be taken once a week to achieve the desired effects of the medication.
Weight loss can begin within 1-4 weeks of taking semaglutide. Individuals report experiencing significant weight loss, dropping 2-3 dress sizes within 3-6 months of taking the medication. An individual’s weight will plateau, and they will achieve a stabilized weight as long as they continue to take the medication.
Semaglutide is not a “miracle drug”. It is still recommended that individuals include diet and exercise to support weight loss. Studies have shown that individuals will regain weight when they stop taking semaglutide.
An increase in gallbladder disease and increased fat in the bloodstream, leading to heart disease, strokes, eye disease, and kidney damage, are linked to semaglutide. Individuals should be closely monitored by their healthcare provider when taking this medication. Some patients report feeling tired due to decreased calorie intake. Other side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, indigestion, dizziness, bloating, and gas. Some individuals report these symptoms do not go away once the medication is stopped.
Semaglutide should only be considered if other diabetes treatments and weight-loss strategies are unsuccessful. Consult with your primary care physician before taking semaglutide to ensure it can be safely taken based on your health history. Do not purchase non-prescription semaglutide from internet websites or take it without monitoring by a healthcare provider.
Semaglutide has revolutionized obesity treatment. Taking the medication produces positive results in patients with type 2 diabetes and facilitates weight loss, which also impacts sugar levels. Many individuals are promoting the value of semaglutide for weight loss. Discuss the pros and cons of taking this and any other medication with your healthcare provider to establish if this medication is right for you.

Run, Don’t Walk - I Cor 6:18 (KJV)
Many of us believe that God’s Word is literally the guidebook or pattern for us to live our lives by and there’s nothing in His Book that’s there simply for the sake of being there. Understanding this, we must pay heed or give earnest attention to it. If God tells us, “Don’t do so and so”, “Don’t talk like this”, or “Don’t go there”, His warning is to benefit us. However, even though we know this, we still find ourselves skipping down the wrong path with a happy-go-lucky attitude, as if the end of that road isn’t going to lead to our demise or destruction.
In our family’s “Major Beliefs” devotions this morning, we read I Corinthians, Chapter 6 and what captured my attention right away was Paul’s warning to the church at Corinth about not committing certain types of sins and sexual sins were among them. In verse 18, he instructed the Corinthians to “Flee fornication!” Even in a letter, I don’t believe the church heard Paul’s words come across as dull and lackluster. I believe they heard those words said with such power and might that they understood that Paul was speaking with the authority of a parent to a child. In other words, there is no room for debate or argument over this thing. Just do it!
I can remember raising our girls and how John and I gave them certain instructions that we knew, if obeyed, would prevent them from being hurt or injured in any way. One of those instructions was to stay away from the stove. Of course, the result of touching a hot stove is getting burned. Well, we didn’t start teaching them to stay away from the stove only when it was hot. No. They had to stay away from the stove period. So, whether the stove was hot or cold, it didn’t matter. All they needed to know is Mommy and Daddy said, “Don’t touch!” You see, the girls needed to learn early on, don’t play with fire or you will get burned. Even if the stove was cold when they touched it, there would still be consequences and repercussions. Touching
a cold stove would result in a good, old-fashioned spanking and touching a hot stove would yield the worst result, a burn and that burn would probably leave a scar which would be a constant reminder of their disobedience.
Looking at I Cor 6:18a (KJV), “Flee fornication”, Paul is clearly telling the church not to even play around with it. When you see it heading your way, RUN! Don’t take your own good time walking slowly away because you might just give it a chance to catch up to you. “Run, Forrest! Run!” I’ve likened committing fornication and adultery to being burned and as bad as a burn is, fornication is so much worse. Each time you join yourself to another in that way, you’re literally becoming one with that person, no matter what kind of person he or she is. You walk away from that person, yet you still carry him or her with you. A soul tie has been formed. Nothing but the power of our Almighty God can break that. Each time we “hook up” with the wrong person, we make it more difficult for the God sent man or woman. They’ve got to wade through all the stuff that was left by the people we became one with prior to them. Even though this is acceptable for the world, it should never be acceptable for those of us who proclaim that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We shouldn’t be playing house, living together without the benefit of marriage. That’s playing with fire. That’s out of order for a child of God. That is sin. Let’s do what Paul instructed the church at Corinth to do and flee fornication.
Father God, today, we ask for forgiveness for our disobedience to Your Holy Word concerning sexual sins. We repent on behalf of our nation. We ask that You cleanse us, wash us and make us pure. We want to do those things that will bring glory and honor to Your Holy and Righteous Name. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen and amen.

Tip 1
When we’re on a trip, what matters most is getting to the destination. If getting there includes a detour or an extra stop, we don’t give up and go home. We keep on going. As we’re on this journey to financial freedom, sometimes our plans don’t work. That doesn’t mean we give up on our vision. We adapt, restructure, strategize with new information and keep moving forward! “Be stubborn about the vision, but flexible with your plan!” #JohnMaxwell #vision #planning #refine #adjust
Tip 2
Before you head out to have fun with friends- make a plan for your money. You might decide to go to an amusement park with the vague notion of getting some food and riding a few rides- assuming to spend about $50. Without a game plan you could end up spending $200, because you didn’t come up with a comfortable amount to spend while getting what you want ahead of time. Go out, have fun, eat that turkey leg, but stay mindful of your budget. Your future self will thank you!
Tip 3
It’s time to add to the positive things we are confessing about ourselves and our lives. Say this aloud: “The Lord leads me in the way I should go.” The New King James Version says it like this, “I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit.” I find immense comfort in the fact that God has promised to guide me along the right paths. We don’t have to worry or wonder about our success, because we’re never alone. We can accomplish even what seems to be impossible when we follow His lead!
