FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR PENTECOSTAL TABERNACLE INT. INC. S. Robert Stewart – Executive Producer
The Drama Ministry of Pentecostal Tabernacle is excited to present the stage play - “Broken” written and directed by Annette Taylor-Spence. We are indeed excited because this presentation will be a vivid reminder to us of what this season represents - the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through His continuing ministry of reconciliation, Jesus is willing and ready to transform our broken state and make us whole. This is the message of “Broken.” Our congregation has supported this effort with fasting and prayers. The entire cast, everyone who dedicated their time and talents to this production, and the co-sponsors who donated their services have worked hard to dramatize the love that drove Jesus Christ, our Savior, to sacrifice His Body to be broken for us. As His blood flowed, He bridged the gap of man’s brokenness and made the provision for us to be covered with grace and mercy. Welcome to Pentecostal Tabernacle! It is our hope and prayer you will be reminded that: ● God loves you! ● He was victorious over death! ● You can be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit! Psalm 34:18 states that – The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Thank you for your support of this amazing stage play “BROKEN.” We celebrate the wisdom and direction God has given to Annette Taylor-Spence and her team to dramatically present the Gospel.
BROKEN
Songwriters: Paul Barker, Max Brody, and Allen Jurgensen I remember when… I told God yes I was eager to do… what He told me to, in obedience Looking out in the crowd… I see, eyes closed, tears falling Hands lifted, people praising and worshiping too They didn’t see me… they only saw You It felt good, but something was missing See I’m empty inside and I’m wondering why Will I ever feel… what they felt from me I didn’t know the price of yes, Would cost me so much... Chorus I’ve been broken and bruised… Wondering will God still use Crying out to You… Got nothing left to lose Father hear my plea… Need You to rescue me ‘Cause I’m broken I’ve got something to say… not sure where I’d start I’m afraid to begin… it’s all falling apart See I thought because, I was working for You everything wrong You will undo… but it wasn’t quite true It’s hard to admit that I can’t feel You like I used to ‘Cause I’m in ministry and I messed up I’m confused with, no one to talk to I need a breakthrough… I need a breakthrough cause this is the thing You won’t know the thing to do

THE STORY BEHIND “BROKEN” Annette Taylor-Spence; Playwright/Director/Producer
As I sat alone in my office on Thursday, February 6, 2020, I was playing the song “Broken” by Shekinah Glory and the words transported me back in time. “I remember when I told God yes” and it really was a transformative moment in my life… It changed the course of my life. As the words continued to stir my memory bank I could relate to - “It felt good but something was missing, see I’m empty inside and I’m wondering why.” I related because I too have been at that place. Even after surrendering to the call of God, I got to a place where I felt empty. It was not until I became truly broken before Him that He was able to do what He wanted with my life. The state of brokenness is vitally important for the ministry of the Holy Spirit to take place. As I reflected on my journey, thoughts of the value of brokenness flooded my spirit. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalms 51:17 As the Holy Spirit ministered and revealed to me, I began to imagine possible scenarios representing being broken in spirit and body. I recalled biblical stories of individuals who were broken, including our savior Jesus Christ, whose body was broken to heal our broken state. Finally, I even saw in my mind’s eye, a pictorial representation of Jesus’ blood flowing. His blood is the life-giving BROKEN THE STAGE PLAY

stream that was poured out at His death so that we can live. I knew that, despite my attempts to resist engaging in writing and directing a play at this time in my life, I had to be obedient to the leading of the spirit. That was two years ago. Between then and now came COVID-19 and along with it, many situations that have brought immense pain and suffering. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, this play was written as a reminder that God is still able to touch the broken areas of our lives. With only two exceptions, the characters in the play are not identified by a given name. They are described by their role or their condition. Without a name to create an identity boundary, we can each identify with at least one character. Who are you? Can you see yourself and your needs? My prayer is that this stage play “Broken”, will lead us to recognize our need for God and rekindle the passion and love that is synonymous with surrender. As we remember that Jesus allowed His body to be broken for our sins, let us be renewed in our zeal to share the Gospel of salvation. If you have never before responded to the voice of God calling you, “today if you hear His voice, harden not your heart”. As you fall before Him… broken and contrite, receive the gift of salvation that will not only change the course of your life but also your eternal destiny.

BROKEN THE STAGE PLAY
SYNOPSIS OF SCENES Intro Video – Are You “Broken” Have you ever heard God calling you to self-reflection? Well then, just imagine Him trying to get you to surrender so that He can mend you. Many times, we get to that place and instead of surrendering, we run away from the truth that confronts us. Scene 1 – I’m Broken The words of the song Broken, serves as a verbal reflection of the struggle in the mind and life of someone who is serving in ministry. The Ministry Worker represents those of us in the contemporary setting who are committed to the work of the Lord but not submitted to the Lord of the work. Song: Broken [Recorded version] Songwriters: Paul Barker, Max Brody, and Allen Jurgensen Artist: Shekinah Glory Scene 2 – Removing the Mask Listen to the Ministry Worker as, in her own words, she removes the mask and expresses the frustration she experienced prior to her transformation. Journey with her, as her imagination and knowledge of scripture takes her back to a time of extravagant worship.

Scene 6 – The Pool of Bethesda The sick and lame waited daily hoping for a miracle. The normal routine was changed when Jesus showed up for a divine appointment with the impotent man. Scene 7 – Healed In spite of skeptics, the man who was healed cannot be silenced. He leaps, shouts, and sings as he shares his testimony. Song: Broken But I am Healed Songwriter: VarnMichael McKay Performed By: Roberto McCalla Scene 8 – They Didn’t Know Experience mixed emotions as you take the journey on the road to Calvary. Identify with the suffering of Jesus and rejoice at the fact of His resurrection. Song: They Didn’t Know [Recorded version] Songwriter: Kurt Carr Artist: Kurt Carr Scene 9 – The Gospel/Finale Every story of brokenness and every broken life can find hope in the culmination of the life of Jesus. The Gospel of Jesus Christ – His death, burial, and resurrection, provides hope for everyone. After all has been said and sung the question remains, Who will believe the Gospel of Christ? MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT Annette Taylor-Spence first recognized her passion for drama as a teenager in High School at Hampton School in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, almost fifty years ago. Many years later, as a member of Pentecostal Tabernacle International, in Miami Gardens, Florida, she began to write plays based on biblical stories. The goal has been to make the Bible “come alive” on the stage in an informative, engaging, and transformative way. Based on her various experiences, including working at Pentecostal Tabernacle for more than twenty years; as a Grief Counselor; and as a Conflict Resolution Practitioner with Love CareFronting, she adds a ‘real world’ dimension to the dramatic presentations. Annette is a Poet, Teacher/Trainer, Public Speaker, Facilitator and Conflict Coach. These experiences have all been helpful in guiding the plots and can be detected in the plays she writes. Other plays written by Annette and produced by Pentecostal Tabernacle International’s Drama Ministry include: Behold the Lamb, Great Expectation, He took My Place, The Chase, Messiah, Beyond Today, and the highly acclaimed Unconditional Love which continues to enjoy an expanding and diverse audience on YouTube. Annette is the biological mother of two adult children, Orville and Peta-Gaye. Over the years she has gained many more spiritual sons and daughters who continue to challenge, motivate, and inspire her. Annette is a born-again Christian who is dedicated to using her Godgiven talents to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. BROKEN THE STAGE PLAY
