I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair When the saved diverse shall gather over on the other shore And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there When the roll is called up yonder When the roll is called up yonder When the roll is called up yonder When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there Let us lay before the Master from dawn ‘til setting sun Let us talk of all his wondrous love and care Then when all of life is over and our work on Earth is done And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there Chorus

POEM: I AM FREE Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call: I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found my place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow: I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my life seemed all too brief: Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now, He set me free. Unknown 4

BLESSED ASSURANCE Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. Chorus: This is my story; this is my song: praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story; this is my song: praising my Savior all the day long. Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight; angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Perfect submission, all is at rest; I in my Savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father There is no shadow of turning with Thee Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not, As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. Chorus: Great is Thy faithfulness Great is Thy faithfulness Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me Summer and winter and springtime and harvest Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow Blessings all mine with 10, 000 beside. 5

T

oday, we celebrate the life of Ms. Daphne L. Boswell. Daphne was the eldest of 12 children born to Lillian and Herman Boswell of Pimento Walk, Ocho Rios, Jamaica on February 14, 1930. Daphne received her early education at the Exchange Elementary School in Saint Ann, Jamaica. The then principal, Mr. Allen Byfield, and his wife, Mrs. Una Byfield, “adopted her” as their daughter. Later, she attended Mico Teachers College in Kingston, Jamaica. As an educator, she eventually served as a teacher’s aide at her elementary school and subsequently joined the staff of Trench Town Primary School in Jamaica. In 1967, Daphne migrated to the United States, where she began a purpose-driven life touching the lives of many people from diverse backgrounds. She joined and became an active member of the Jamaica Progressive League, developed to assist migrants from Jamaica to the United States. Always a people person, her home was open to many. Daphne devoted her time to collecting anecdotes surrounding the students of Exchange Elementary school, which resulted in her becoming an excellent historian documenting the lives of people, their culture, and folklore. Daphne is one of the founders of the Allen and Una Byfield Memorial Fund. The board comprises of past students of these two prominent Jamaican educators. Daphne did not require validation; she was God’s beautiful creation. For more than 30 years Daphne actively served as a member of Butler Memorial United Methodist Church. Daphne served on various boards and committees such as Member of the Administrative Board, United Methodist Women Ministry, Committee for Methodist Summer Day Camp, President of the Islands and Peninsula Club, and 6

the Secretary for Chancellor Choir, to mention a few. Her membership in the Butler United Methodist Church inspired her to mentor youths at the Leake & Watts Group Home where she worked for 30 years. To some, she was a minister as she provided spiritual guidance; to the family, she was wellloved. As mentioned, Daphne led a purpose-driven life; she wore many hats. Hospitality provided an outlet for Daphne’s entrepreneurial skills to shine and flourish. This profession was apparent by her zeal and passion for baking, cooking, traveling, and entertaining. Daphne was well known for her Jamaican rum wedding cakes, Sorrel, Ginger beer, and many coconuts-infused baked goods. It is the opinion of many that no one matched her culinary skills. She was that great in and out of the kitchen! She was the family matriarch and willingly offered support to family members. Daphne was firm yet humble. She enjoyed interacting with family members and challenged many decisions made by the family. She enjoyed a rich life, surrounded by family, friends, acquaintances, and church family. Daphne retired and moved from the Bronx to Fort Lauderdale in 2008. Here she embraced her retirement lifestyle. It was here, in Florida that she bid farewell to this world on February 28, 2022. Daphne will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Louise Lillian Boswell-Hall, Birdeline Lillian Dixon, Kathleen Gordon, Herminie Boswell, Enid Boswell, brother, Desmond Boswell, many nieces and nephews, friends, and well-wishers. According to her niece, Maxine, Aunt Daphne’s favorite saying was, “It’s alright…No matter how challenging the situation, she would say, It’s Alright. Today we say, may she rest in peace.

Poem of Life Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay... Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey’s quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord Author Unknown
