D

evin Christopher Emerson Brissett aka Devi D (as his dad would call him) was born on October 29, 1997, in the City of Mount Vernon, New York; to his mother Marlene Mallett and his father Sean Christopher Emerson Brissett. Devin was one of 7 children (a true middle child), but unlike other middle children, Devin was always heard and seen, because he wouldn’t have it any other way! Devin’s formative years were spent attending Sunday School and services at New Life Tabernacle Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Albert Randall. He looked forward to being picked up on Sunday mornings. Devin truly enjoyed attending Sunday School. He was an enthusiastic participant in our annual Sunday School Program and would come away with gifts for first place in attendance and offering. From a young age he showed interest in business as he made sure his class always won the prize for most offering. We learnt recently from his grandmother that once Devin returned home, he would demonstrate the highlights of each Sunday services. He would sing, shout, pace back and forth while preaching and even tried to speak in tongues. It got to the place where his mother purchased for him a microphone. We give God thanks for the indelible impression that was left on his life that he was even called “preacher man.” Devin was a happy child always smiling, laughing, and running around getting into people’s business because he thought he was grown (you can blame his older brothers for that). No matter what Devin was doing, he had a great big smile on his face and lots, of energy, because he was always truly enjoying life. His parents had high values on Christian Education, so they set a path for Devin to attend parochial schools from a tender age. During Devin’s elementary years (2000-2003), he attended Wake Eden Christian Academy, then on to middle school at Our Lady of Grace, where he graduated 8th grade. Devin was accepted in one of Bronx’s most prestigious all-boys schools, Mount St. Michael’s Academy. During Devin’s time at Mount St. Michael’s Academy, he developed a love for football. He wore number 23. Devin was a talented running back, cornerback, very athletic, and participated in track and field. Not only was he a lover of sports, but many of his accomplishments were also well documented. The highlights of most of his achievements can be found with just one google search of his name!

Devin Brissett was accepted to the Baccalaureate Program at Long Island University, where he planned to fulfill his mom’s dream and obtain a bachelor’s degree. However, after his sophomore years, he decided to pursue his true passion and his own dreams to become an entrepreneur. After leaving college in 2 years, Devin being industrious and wanting to know more about businesses, took his first job at Best Buy as a technician and customer support staff, and then he became a driver for PepsiCo and UPS. Devin LOVED cars, nice, luxury, fast cars! Devin would later turn his passion for cars into a career. He worked part-time at Enterprise Car Rental; there he learned his true business. Devin moved to California to live with his dad at the age of 21. It was in California where Devin fulfilled his dreams. Devin became the proud owner of his own rental car company called, Golden Car Exotic Rentals, where he was able to share his passion for cars with many others. Devin loved traveling, playing with his siblings, spending time with his family and friends, and lover of luxury watches. During Devin’s junior year at Mount St. Michael’s Academy, Devin met his high school sweetheart, Brianna Graman. Brianna and Devin were inseparable and would go on to date for 8 years. Their love and relationship produced a baby girl by the name of Brielle Emery Brissett, who was born on October 26, 2021. Devin was obsessed with his new baby girl and couldn’t wait to fulfill his role as a father. Devin passed suddenly, at the age of 24 on December 20, 2021. Although Devin is no longer with us in the physical, I know that he is with us in spirit and is as much of a “ride or die” in heaven as he was here on earth. Devin was a selfless, brave, and courageous human being and will be missed dearly. The memories shared will forever be engraved in our brains and the love we had in our hearts. His infectious smile and beautiful personality will forever be in our memories. Devin Christopher Emerson Brissett, we will love you forever. Devin is preceded in death by his grandparents Lissant Mallett and Dagget Winifred Wint. Devin is survived by his precious baby girl Brielle Emery Brissett, his girlfriend Brianna Graman, his mother Marlene Mallett, his father Sean Christopher Emerson Brissett Sr., and 6 siblings, Sean Christopher Emerson Brissett Jr., and wife Shamaree La’Ree, Anthony Emerson Brissett, Shelandah Brissett, Raisa Jada Brissett, Shanice Brissett, and his youngest sister Sophia Annmarie Brissett. As well as his grandmother Anne Marie Bennett, great grandmother Nehushta Gabbidon, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Devin will be laid to rest on January 8, 2022. I would like to thank everyone who is here today to help us honor and lay to rest a great soul, Devin Brissett.

SONGS OF HOPE I’ll Fly Away Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away; To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away). Chorus I’ll fly away, Oh Glory I’ll fly away; (in the morning) When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away). When the shadows of this life have gone, I’ll fly away; Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away) Just a few more weary days and then, I’ll fly away; To a land where joy shall never end, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away) When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more, And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair, When the saved diverse shall gather over on the other shore, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. Chorus When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. Let us lay before the Master from dawn ‘til setting sun, Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care, Then when all of life is over and our work on Earth is done, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Because He Lives God sent His son, They called Him Jesus, He came to love, heal, and forgive, He lived and died to buy my pardon, An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. Chorus Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone, Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. How sweet to hold a newborn baby, And feel the pride and joy he gives, But greater still the calm assurance, This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

When Will All Get to Heaven Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place. Chorus When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory! While we walk the pilgrim pathway Clouds will overspread the sky; But when trav’ling days are over Not a shadow, not a sigh. Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving ev’ry day; Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay. Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold; Soon the pearly gates will open– We shall tread the streets of gold

Thank You

Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers, that we saw sitting there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you viewed the service from miles away or the comfort of your living room. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for whatever part. We deeply appreciate your kind expression of sympathy in our time of great sorrow. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
