Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

I

regard it a privilege to be called to the kingdom of God in these last days. It gives me great honor to serve as Pastor of this great church and to celebrate with all its past and present members on this 20th anniversary. During these years, we have experienced the mighty move of God among our people, in healings, miracles, and blessings. This is a time of jubilee and revival among the saints of God and we give God thanks for keeping us in unity over these twenty years. Isaiah 40:33 declares, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” The vision is clear; the saints have seen it, and God has placed his blessings upon it. Therefore, let us move forward into the place that God has ordained for us. This journey will never stop, but it will continue until we reach our final destination. Let us not grow weary in well-doing for we know that we will reap if we faint not. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand…STAND..” (Eph. 6:10-14). In His service, Pastor Norris Gordon

Greetings in Jesus name,

Psalm 127:1 declares, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” For the past 20 years, Bishop Norris & First Lady Doreen Gordon, have allowed God to build this house and we rejoice today that their labor has not been in vain. God has blessed El Bethel Tabernacle to be a pillar in the Clair-mel City area and the surrounding communities as well. From our humble beginnings in Bishop Gordon’s home to our current sanctuary, God has enlarged our borders and our reach to be a force for endtime revival. Over the years we have seen many ministries, preachers, teachers, and evangelist birthed in this great church, but most importantly, we have seen hundreds of lives changed by the power of the Holy Ghost. Week after week, the faithful saints of El Bethel Tabernacle join together in the spirit of unity to worship the One True and Living God in the beauty of holiness. Our focus is unwavering as we hear the mantra of our Bishop loud and clear, “we must Connect people to God, Grow strong relationships, and Reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Bishop Norris and First Lady Doreen Gordon have not only been my earthly parents, but my spiritual leaders as well. My family and I are humbled and honored to be a part of their legacy and ministry and to share in its continued journey. It is our sincere hope and prayer that God will continue to bless, keep, and sustain them as they take us to the next level in Christ Jesus. We wholeheartedly join hearts and hands together with them as they continue to be “steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.” Congratulations Bishop & First Lady and all saints of this great assembly, on 20 years of faithful service! Sincerely, Assistant Pastor Dexter Gordon & Lady Sophia Gordon

The Call…. After several years of laboring faithfully for the Lord in Tampa, FL, Pastor Gordon began to feel the call of God to pastor and a strong burden for the area of Clair Mel City. While in prayer, Pastor Gordon received a vision from the Lord which directed him to stand before the people and “take them to the mountain top.” Pastor Gordon sought the Lord for confirmation of his will and was led by the Holy Ghost to Genesis 35:7. It was from this scripture that the name of the church was derived-- El-Bethel, which means, “The God of the house.”

The Beginning…. Together with is wife, First Lady Doreen Gordon, El-Bethel Tabernacle opened its doors in 1997 with a total of 5 people in attendance. During those first few months, services were held in the living room of Pastor and First Lady Gordon’s home. By the grace of God

and the use of effective evangelism through Home Bible Studies, the congregation began to grow and in a matter of only a few months, the need to relocate was evident.

In the Spring of that year, the church relocated to the former Milner Hotel on 50th St. in Tampa. Thus began a time of unprecedented growth as the Lord took the congregation from 16 to an average attendance of over 40 people in less than 6mths. It was also during this time that property was purchased in the Clair Mel city area in the hopes of one day constructing a permanent church building.

After about a year at the Milner Hotel, the need again presented itself for a new building. In an effort to move closer to the city of his original calling, Pastor Gordon relocated the church to a community center a few miles from the church’s property. Services were held at the community center while a modular building was being constructed on the church property that could hold the growing

congregation. After only a month, El-Bethel Tabernacle was relocated to a modular building at its current location on 78th St.

As a result of the grace, mercy, and favor of God, the vision of our Pastor, and the faithfulness of the saints, El-Bethel Tabernacle was able to construct a permanent building which was dedicated October 9, 2004.

The Legacy continues…. Today, El-Bethel Tabernacle continues to be a thriving church in the community. With its many ministries designed to reach out to the lost, hopeless, and needy, El-Bethel Tabernacle has become a beacon of hope to the city of Clair Mel. On any given Sunday, people of all races and nationalities can be found lifting their hands together in worship to the One True, and Living God. Together, we endeavor to CONNECT people to God, GROW strong relationships, and REACH the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
