As our lives speed up more and more, so do our children’s. We forget and thus they forget that there is nothing more important than the present moment. We forget and thus they forget to relax, to find spiritual solitude, to let go of the past, to quiet ambition, to fully enjoy the eating of a strawberry, the scent of a rose, the touch of a hand on a cheek...

K
halia Shanice Antoinette Banks was born with a smile on her face on October 21, 1988, at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida. She was the first daughter for her mom and second granddaughter for her maternal grandmother. She was special to all of us but she was definitely a grandma’s girl. At the tender age of seven months she was sent to Jamaica while her mom returned to school. She was taken back and forth frequently, especially during the first two years of her life. As the years went by, she spent most of the summers here in Florida. At the age of four she attended Meadowbrook Prep School and later attended St. Richards Primary School, both in Jamaica. She was an excellent student and athlete. She was also a very private person and one had to pry information out of her. At the age of 11 she and her 9 year old sister finally moved to Florida. She attended Treasure Island Elementary in Miami Beach where she excelled at the top of her class. She often challenged her teachers resulting in numerous calls from them stating that she was not following their format in teaching of all subjects especially Math. Khalia would respond, “I did not do this in Jamaica and this is not how it is supposed to be done”. She challenged those teachers and gave them ‘a run for their money’, before she and the teachers finally came to a compromise.

When the family moved to Broward County she attended Walter C Young Middle School. While there, she continued to excel academically and also in track and field. At Flannigan High she joined the Color Guard and ROTC and maintained her high academic standards. Such was her impact, that when her younger sister got to Flannigan High, Khalia’s picture was on the board in one of the Math classes. The teacher stated that she was the best Math student he ever had and he hoped Ashley would be like her. On graduating from Flannigan High in 2006, Khalia entered Broward College where she completed an associate degree. Her first job was at McDonald’s after which sheb ranched off into the retail service industry focusing on sales and marketing, where she excelled in various positions. She attended Nova Southern University to study Accounting. On January 30, 2010, she gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy who is every bit like her. We wish for him God’s richest blessing as he goes from strength to strength with all the support he has around him.
Khalia was an excellent student, a fun person, and a social butterfly. She was a fashionista who lit up a room upon entering, with her soft chuckle, stately figure, and was always well put together. On July 22, 2019, she transitioned from this world. We know she is in heaven smiling as she enters those gates. May her soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine on her. Khalia is sadly missed by: Son- Chace; Mom- Paulette; Sister- Ashley; Brothers- Jermaine and Willy Jr.; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.

Angel
Words cannot express how I miss my first born daughter. She was my mini-me, except she always had a smile. She had a strong personality, charming, competitive, strong, giving, loving, articulate and secretive. The consummate fashionista, when she walked in a room all heads turned. May she be my Guardian Angel. Rest in peace my angel. Mom – Paulette Banks

When We All Get to Heaven
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Revelation 21:4-7

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
BLESSED ASSURANCE
Great Is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father! There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Though changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine; Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus Great Is Thy faithfulness, Great Is Thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me!
Chorus This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Chorus
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. Chorus
Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest; Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love. Chorus
Pardon for Sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide, Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Chorus
WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, sing His mercy and His grace; in the mansions bright and blessed, He’ll prepare for us a place.
Let us then be true and faithful, trusting, serving every day; just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay. [Chorus]
Chorus When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.
Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold; soon the pearly gates will open; we shall tread the streets of gold. When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.
While we walk the pilgrim pathway, clouds will overspread the sky; but when traveling days are over, not a shadow, not a sigh. [Chorus]

Memories
She was very outgoing but quiet. She loved the best of everything. She loved to shop; hence she was my personal shopper. She was very jovial, mannerable and respectful. She loved her family very much and would do anything they asked of her. You will always be missed but never forgotten. Love Aunty Janet (Robinson) She was a charm to be with. We shared a unique kind of love which will never fade. She loved life and was very outgoing. Norma Robinson - aunt She had a beautiful smile with an echoing laugh that lightens up a room. Her goofiness was one of a kind. She was jovial and always smiling. Love you my cuz – Shauna Bruce She was very independent and strong willed. I was first aunt to introduce her to pizza in Jamaica. I will miss you always. Suzie Robinson - aunt Khaliah started her life out in Jamaica where I had the pleasure of growing up with and knowing her. She had many friends, always laughing and having fun, that’s the type of person she was. She was fun-loving and jovial with a genuine smile. When she migrated to America she would check up on me and find out if I am doing well in school. She was smart and talented; she was kind and giving; thoughtful and sincere. Whenever I would spend my summers in America she would make sure I am doing fine and enjoying myself. We would sit and play games like dominoes and scrabble with Ashley and the others and have a blast. She has this laugh that I will never forget. It was pure and electrifying so much so that you couldn’t help but join in. She was a great person and I will miss her dearly. I am sure all who know her will miss her the same. As long as we remember her and keep her in our hearts then she will always be with us. Love Shaq Shaquille Nelson – cousin She was mentor, my friend, my big sister and my shopping buddy. She lived her life to the fullest. Gone but not forgotten. Aisha Nelson – Cousin

Khalia was one of my favorite grand nieces. I watched her grow up to be a very quiet, pleasant, and adorable young lady. Somehow she has departed from us at an early age. The Lord Jesus, who is the great creator, knows all things best for all of us. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Rest in Peace Khalia. Aunty Rhee, Samuel (Devon) & family I love her and appreciate how she accepted me into her family. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She showed me a lot even though she was younger than I am. She allowed me to be part of her son’s life and that was very important to me. Her favorite saying to me was, “do not stress me out”. She will be missed. Samantha Baxter - Family friend She loved life and lived it to its fullest. Her son was her world. Never to be forgotten. Joan Richards - Family Friend

T he Dash
Annette Taylor-Spence
The Interval between The beginning and the ending Connecting the breath given To the breath taken Just a moment in time A fleeting gift that is mine Lord, help me to carve out this dash Not measured by its length For some it is soon spent Brief moments fleeting into eternity But valuable for its content A life lived with intent To fulfill the purpose that was meant Lord, help me to use this dash How often we celebrate the beginning Partying and rejoicing with no ending Recalling only the start Sorrowing gravely at the last When the dash - the all important part Lies between - underused and set apart Lord, keep me mindful of this dash This dash - The only time we have The Master’s plan to accomplish Measure not the days, the months, the years Measure not the content of life’s cares Rather measure the legacy of a Christ focused life Of one who will eternally rest from strife Lord, may my purpose be fulfilled in this dash No matter the length, the question remains Was my dash well spent? Did anybody gain? Did I serve my God? Did I bring Him Glory? Will He say, “Well Done, good and faithful son.” The all-important dash What story will you write on your dash?

Abide With Me
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.
Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see— O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies; Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

The journey of life comes with highs and lows, triumphs and defeats, ups and downs, gains and losses, births and deaths. We have to navigate them all while keeping our head above the water. When faced with the sudden death of a loved one in the prime of life, the task is exceptionally challenging. We could not do it without support. This family is grateful to every individual who has played a part in helping us through this journey.
