No time to cry. Do not shed a tear. For I am with God now. Do not fear. In spirit, I am here. I kept the faith. My spirit is light. I am at peace now. I fought a good fight. My maker has called me home.
B
orn in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on May 20, 1942, to Anibal Marquez and Luisa Garcia, Lilian’s life journey began. Raised by Antonia Garcia (Mama Tonia), from early on in life, Lilian was brought up in a disciplined and conservative household. Her Catholic School attendance in La Romana provided even more structure to Lilian’s upbringing. As a young teenager, Lilian met Rafael Suazo. They developed and maintained a friendship that eventually led to a 51 year marriage. Lilian migrated to America on April 19, 1967, and on December 25, 1967, Rafael and Lilian were married. From their union came three daughters: Jeannie, Yvette, and Lynette, who were raised in New York and New Jersey before calling Florida their permanent home in 1988. Lilian spent her life as a homemaker, who took pride in raising her three girls and maintaining a clean and orderly home – one of Lilian’s passions. Lilian’s dedication and devotion as a wife and mother were the cornerstones of her life because family was of top priority to her. Her love for her grandchildren was deep rooted and unconditional. Her tiny stature and sensitive demeanor were only one part of who Lilian was. She was also a feisty woman who loved getting dressed up, wearing her make-up, and simply looking good. Lilian was a genuine and sincere person, whose passions in life included flowers, dancing, and listening to music. Lilian was a free spirit, who enjoyed holiday festivities, cooking, and travelling. Anything that brought the family together made Lilian smile. Her love of family was one of her most beautiful attributes. Lilian was a lover of life. Most of all, she was a giving person. She was radiantly beautiful and exceptionally happy. Sadly, cancer took over Lilian’s body in 2015 and after a long, brave, and courageous fight, Lilian was called to God on January 14, 2018, with her loved ones by her side. Lilian wouldn’t leave this Earth without reassurance that her legacy would be carried on – that the love of family is the greatest gift one can give.
Lilian is survived by her birth mother, Luisa; her brother, Luis; her sisters, Ramona, Olga, Viviana, and Mercedes; her husband, Rafael; her three daughters, Jeannie, Yvette, and Lynette; her sons-in-law, Marcos, George, and Ray; her eight grandchildren, Alexandria, Christopher, Shemar, Krystle, Yazmin, Jean, Destiny, and Raylin; her special family members, Norma and Patricia; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and countless friends. She will truly be missed.
