the Pastors and Members of Zion South Beach Baptist Church as you celebrate the Fortieth anniversary of your Christian witness. These efforts, I am told, have resulted in positive changes in the lives of those who engage in these valuable services, and I take this opportunity to commend you for these important efforts which enrich the lives of many people and which serve as good examples of the true mission of the Church to its members and beyond. I am therefore delighted to congratulate Bishop Davis and all the leadership, as well as the members who unite to engage in the work of Zion, and I wish you every success as you continue your laudable efforts. I pray that Almighty God will continue to guide and bless your work for many more years.

MESSAGE FROM
THE HON. PHILIP BRAVE DAVIS QC, MP LEADER OF HER MAJESTY’S LOYAL OPPOSITION LEADER OF THE PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL PARTY
I offer congratulations to the Senior Pastor of Zion South Beach Baptist Church, Bishop B. Wenith Davis, the officers and members on the occasion of your fortieth anniversary. I am advised that the wider Zion Convention is among the oldest religious organizations in the Caribbean. As an important member, this is a tangible testament of the relevance of your message, community outreach programs, social work among the widows and orphans, Christian educational programs and evangelism. I commend you on your good work and contribution to our country’s national life as you have literally influenced and shaped the spiritual character of a generation of Bahamians. Your good work and allegiance to the uncompromising word of God over these many years continue to demonstrate your enduring strength through faith, and your relevance through the sincerity of your timeless message of love, peace, righteousness and kingdom building. You have certainly laid up many treasures in heaven in the form of charity, faith and in the souls won for the Kingdom
of Heaven. Our country is a better place because of your evangelism. I implore Bishop B. Wenith Davis and his team to continue to prick the moral conscience of our nation and speak out boldly on any number of issues of national import. Be bold in your moral conviction just as Jesus and His disciples were. Certainly, Zion’s contributions and Godly examples have and will continue to strengthen the future of The Bahamas. I encourage you to intensify your mission and expand your vision on the national level to combat the challenge of antisocial behavior which threatens our peace, security, prosperity and harmony while systematically weakening our social fabric. It is written that the race is not for the swiftest, but for those who endure to the end. At forty years and counting, Zion South Beach appears to be as enduring as ever. As you celebrate your 40th anniversary of labour in the vineyard, I join you in giving God thanks for the many blessings bestowed on your organization and our country over the last forty years.
If Zion South Beach continues with its mission, then you will be contributing significantly to a brighter future for our Bahamas. I implore you to continue to pass on traditional values from generation to generation. I encourage you to guard and protect your rich Christian legacy.
I challenge you to look to the future with immovable faith and fortitude and watch the windows of heaven open and pour upon us all a double portion of blessings that there will not be room to contain. Such is the faithfulness of God. Congratulations on your fortieth birthday and I look with confidence and optimism to the next forty years of growth, development and prosperity in Christ just as our souls prosper. May Almighty God bless the good work of Zion Baptist South Beach, the wider Zion Convention and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

REVEREND DR. LLOYD SMITH
Dear Bishop B. Although the path to this celebration was long, you have just begun. My prayer is that together you and the fine members of Zion South Beach Baptist Church will go on to perfection with God. Therefore, my beloved in the Lord; I salute you and pray Gods choice blessing upon you and I commend you to the one who is able to establish you according to the proclamation of Jesus Christ.

MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR
BISHOP B. WENITH DAVIS, OBE
The God that cannot be defined, can be experienced! My Family in Christ, Peace be multiplied to each of you for every unspeakable gift from our Father Jehovah who has called us to partnership with him to create change on this planet for a global change on this planet for a global success and so ignite the passion and persuasion to pursue the Divine even through forty years of wonderful travel up stream and at times downstream, yet airborne and flying without wings; unmatched, unbelievable and unstoppable and at times dancing without music. Hitherto hath the Lord brought us! To snatch a few words from the book of the prophet Joshua, “What meaneth these stones?” Travelling for forty years and giving leadership to this congregation was nothing short of miraculous. Every citizen in our company gave a unique behavior that propelled this leader to produce quality for the journey. The various types of specialized ministries produce qualified people.
The Lord burst through our enemies and brought peace in every wave God gave us new mercies in this scientific space age to compete and win in every difficult circumstance. I must pay homage to my wife, Pastor Ismae Davis and my children along with my family members for their unwavering support and partnership in Ministry over the many years. Each of my family members brought a unique gift to ministry. My years spent in College, Seminary, University and extensive training and travel have prepared me for the years of the journey. Even as we stood on the verge of “this Jordan” there were challenged and conflicts, but there are victories and triumph. We salute many of the warriors who have won the race and made their exists to the new Jerusalem who today are cheering us on. Stress and strain and worry and pain cannot detour us we are bound for the Land of Promise.
A backward glance revealed that the best is yet to come! The Latter House will be greater than the former! Zion South Beach Baptist Church has always been and will continue to be the Beacon in the South! The campus of Zion will always be known for Education, Theology and Worship. The children and youth of our church will always be included in the activities of the church. Reinforcement is the upward pull of realignment for our ministry. Zionites are encouraged to cast all your cares upon the Lord! Blessings Zionites on this fortieth Church Anniversary! Yours truly, Your Senior Pastor & Bishop
The Inception of Zion South Beach Baptist Church What Meaneth these Stones?
ExtractedfromOrderOutofChaos, by Bishop B. Wenith Davis Tis the Old Ship of Zion
Whatever else may be said about Bishop B. Wenith Davis, suffice to say, he has given qualitative leadership to the Zion South Beach Baptist Church for forty years. His leadership style has stood the test of time. Tested, trusted and tried leadership and remained true. Visionary, God-conscious and Spirit-filled. A humanitarian, educated, talented and creative. It takes more than a busy church, a friendly church, or even an evangelical church to impact a community for Christ. It must be a church ablaze, led by leaders who are ablaze for God. Leaders that are born still need development and to enhance their skills of leadership. The idea of leading a congregation was one that senior pastor, Reverend B. Wenith began thinking about after his conversation with Reverend Dr. Charles C. Smith in 1978. During Bishop Davis’ final year of Seminary, the idea of leading a congregation was introduced by the Reverend Dr. Charles Smith in the Spring of 1978. Bishop Davis had a Double Major in College which were Theology and Language. At Seminary emphasis was Education, Christian Education. Upon return to the Bahamas after Seminary Training, Reverend B. Wenith Davis tried to settle at his home church, Zion East and Shirley Streets; however, God had another plan. The late Reverend Dr. Charles Smith summonized Reverend Davis to a meeting in his office and once again presented the idea of a Mission in the South Beach area and that he would lead this mission work.
The Dream Became Reality
Reverend Charles Smith presented the idea to Reverend B. Wenith Davis who then took up the mantle to begin a Zion Mission work in the South Beach constituency. Under the leadership of Reverend Charles Smith, the Zion Baptist Church purchased and secured a parcel of ground in Bamboo Town from Mr. Neville Dorsette. On the 3rd Sunday in October 1979, there was an official ground breaking ceremony to launch the Mission in South Beach. It was he understanding of Reverend Davis that there was one acre of ground on Cow-Pen Road (east of Jordan Prince Williams Baptist School), where the present Sanctuary stands. Mr. Neville Dorsette took Reverend Davis to view the property. The stakes were pointed out by no less a
person. During the ground-breaking Ceremonies, several pledges were made. Many of the members from Zion East and Shirley Streets supported the work of the Zion mission in South Beach.
The Membership
Although the Church House is located in a very heavily populated area, the membership to a great degree does not draw from this immediate area. The membership on the Boulevard is a cross section from the various communities in New Providence. Every island is represented in South Beach. Andros, Acklins, Exuma, Mayaguana, Crooked Island, Cat Island, Long Island, Inagua, Grand Bahama, Bimini, Ragged Island, Abaco, San Salvador, Eleuthera and New Providence, all islands of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas have been touched by Zion South Beach. Professionals, Entrepreneurs and Vocational Workers of the main stream in The Bahamas. The congregation at Zion on the Boulevard includes Law Enforcement Officers, Nurses, Teachers, Carpenters, Masons, Secretaries and Administrators, Beauticians, Bankers, Government Offices, Clerks , Lawyers, Doctors, Taxi Drivers and Tour Operators, Insurance Agents, Seamstresses, CPA Accountants and others. The Congregation on the Boulevard is proud of their spiritual development as they have been exposed to sound theological Teaching and Preaching and encouraged to pursue excellence in which ever profession chosen. As a Educator Reverend B. Wenith encouraged the parishioners to be given to study.
The Music Ministry
The Sanctuary Choir has made a name for itself. Under the Direction of the Late George Bethel and Sister Veronica Ingraham, Zion South Beach Sanctuary Choir has made a name of itself nationally and internationally. This work continues now under the direction of Minister Charles Wildgoose and Ministe Desmond Davis. Musical Geniuses such as Minister Johnny Swan, Reverend G. Richard Davis and Psalmist Angie Neymour have all lifted this congregation through their musical gifting.
The Commissioning Service
After a stay of one year at the Jordan Prince Williams School Room, the South Beach Congregation convinced the masses that they were serious about Ministry. Hence, they were ready for a Commissioning Service, which would have officially categorized them as a duly constituted Baptist Church. MAy of 1980 was the chosen time. The third Sunday in May was the date chosen. The congregation met on the campus of Prince Williams School, but unfortunately the heavy down pour of rain prevented an outdoor service. Immediately it was suggested the we move quickly to Mother Zion to have the service there. The Membership along with Reverend Davis were present for this service of commissioning. All went well, until the Superintendent said: “By the powers vested in me, I name you Philadelphia Baptist Church”. That name died where it was born. It never became a part of the South Beach Congregation.
Naming of the Organization
Just as proud parents search the field for a name when they anxiously await the arrival of their first born, so also did the membership make their suggestions regarding a name for this local chapter. The Executive Board met in one of its deliberations and the agenda was the name of the organization. Needless to say, several names were debated and discussed. • Fairview Baptist Church • The Cathedral of Mt. Zion
• • • •
Zion’s Temple Baptist Church South Beach Zion Baptist Church Zion Baptist Church, South Beach Zion South Beach Baptist Church
These were all well defined names, but only one was chosen. It was all agreed that the name shall be: Zion South Beach Baptist Church. For many years the local organization was known as Zion’s Mission South Beach, but after the Dedication, the Official name was adopted, the deeds were all named in the official name of the church.
Building a Congregation
Reverend B. Wenith Davis has always practiced the philosophy that to build a Congregation, the leader must be available, dependable, reliable, knowledgeable and accountable. Long before the Administration wing was completed, Reverend Davis kept Pastoral Office Hours. His major interest was building and developing the lives of people. Programmes were people oriented and ministry has always been inclusive of persons of all ages. Reverend Davis enlisted and engaged persons from all walks of life to be a part of the Zion South Beach Baptist Church. Man y persons accepted the invitation to join the ministry. Reverend Davis was always creative, determined and committed to ministry. He operated office from a small room at the front of the church building. Mrs. Gina Evans was hired as the first full time Secretary to the church. When the Administration Offices were completed there was still no phone lines in the immediate area. Thanks to the late B.J Nottage, who allowed the church to have telephone services. This meeting was held in the office of Bishop Neil C. Ellis.
The Erection of the Structure
The Structure of Zion South Beach Baptist Church stands as a Monument to the Nation and a landmark to the community and a testimony to the World of the miraculous power of the Living God. The People, The Congregation, the Saints are “Lively Stones” as stated by the scripture, they are ever erecting a spiritual house; their lives to the Glory of God. Key persons that are to be saluted and applauded for the erection and the upkeep of this structure are: Mr. Neville Albury, Brother Patrick Rahming, Minister Japheth Strachan, Brother Willard McKenzie, Captain Fernly Palmer, Mr. Freddie McKenzie, Brother Johnny Swan, Deacon Calvin Morley, Mr. James Morley, Mr.Hubert Fowler, Mr. Dudley Coverly, Elder Leslie Brown, Deacon Robert Massie Pennerman, Brother Kendal Strachan, Philip Casius, Deacon Gerard King, Dr. Raquel Davis-Hall and Walltech Company.
The Red Letter Day
The fourth Sunday in March 1979, will be the Day that always stands out in the minds of the people of Zion SOuth Beach Baptist Church because it marked the beginning of that which God had srated in the lives of a few chosen, elected and appointed by God. Reverend Dr. Charles W. Saunders, then, President of the Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention and Principal of Jordan Prince Williams High School must be recognized for the splendid support given to this new group of pilgrims. Reverend Dr. Charles Saunders gave permission for the use of the school building and its facilities which house our activities for five years, 1979 - 1984. The service was conducted by senior pastor, Reverend Davis who preached from the subject, “The Untrodden Path of the Unknown Future”. The offering for this service was sixty-three dollars and fifty cents ($63.50)

DEACON SHERWIN DANIEL FERGUSON
Born to the late Christopher and Keturah Ferguson née Duncanson on the 26th February 1964, the third of seven children at Andros Avenue in Coconut Grove on the island of New Providence. Believing in the biblical principles of dedicating one’s child to God, he was christened Sherwin Daniel Ferguson by the late Reverend Talmadge Sands at Zion Baptist Church East and Shirley Street where the family attended. He was taught about Jesus before he actually understood who the Saviour was. During the late 1960’s the family moved to Bamboo Town in the South, quite a distance from Zion East and Shirley Street. Transportation became a challenge, so they sometimes visited other churches near home when unable to get to Zion. In the 1970’s Sherwin and his siblings along with other young people, mainly from the southern area of the island attended Joy Bible Camp on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. The late uncle Jack and aunt Audrey Adams two missionaries from Canada, owned and operated the camp. This was where he gained Godly wisdom and learned to fear God, and respect his fellowmen. Indeed, Joy Bible Camp was a place to develop the youth in Christian
principles. For young Sherwin, it was here where those principles were developed in his life. Over the years the campers visited many churches especially on Sunday nights. It was at one of those visits to a crusade held at Grace Gospel Chapel where a soul-stirring message was preached, and subsequently an altar call was given by the late Ed (Edward) Allen. Young Sherwin answered the call and made Jesus his Lord and Saviour. As God would have it in late March 1979, Zion South Beach Baptist Church lead by the then Reverend B. Wenith Davis, moved to the South and had its services in a classroom at Jordan Prince William Baptist School. This move established a church home for the Ferguson family, where they became an active part of the fellowship. Deacon Ferguson’s initial introduction to music was from his dad, who played the guitar and also taught him. His first music theory came from the then choir director the late Mr. George Bethel who put him in the church choir. Eventually he found out that singing was not his calling, and gracefully bowed out.
MINISTER DESMOND DAVIS
Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand ~ Stevie Wonder. Mr. Desmond Davis grew up in San Salvador from humble beginnings but from a tender age developed a keen passion for music. Not many people can boast that they are self taught professionals but Desmond can simply listen to the tune of a song and mimic it; sometimes taking listeners back to the “good ‘ol days” of uplifting music with his captivating, high energy performances. He was recognized by the America Bahamas Chapter in their Gospel Music Workshop in 2013 and was
honored in 2015 as the Minister of Music but prior to that has always been musically active in church. “Des” or “Bro. Des”, as he is affectionately called, is a member of the church’s choir and has served as the chief organist at Zion South Beach Baptist for the past 20 years. He enjoys singing, playing the organ/keyboard at different events, watching sports and his early musical influences include the Chuck Wagon Gang Consolers. He is married to Deacon Sheilamae Antonio - Davis and has 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 2 son-in-laws.
As a youngster, Sherwin was actively involved in the Church ministries like Sunday School and the Boys Brigade. A few years later he was encouraged by the late Mr. Collin Hall to play guitar in church, that’s when he found what his God-given talent was. He persevered through practiced and dedicated himself to become better each day. He also went on to receive many music certificates in both theory and instruments from The Associated Board Royal School of Music in England. He has been a part of the music ministry at Zion ever since, playing the bass or rhythm guitar and was elevated to Deacon while there. He is a 27 year veteran Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and is married to his dear wife, Yvonne. He has two children Sherwaine and Sherwin Jr. and a granddaughter Jacey. He loves the Lord and playing music on his instrument with and for others. Music is his life, and his life is music. He thanks God every day for the ability to share the gift of music, which keeps giving back.

DOUGLAS BANNISTER
I started Zion South Beach Church in 1987, and was Baptist into the house of the Lord. We started the first Youth Choir at that time. I am committed to doing my best for the Lord by rendering my services to his Church with free Locksmithing services any time it is needed to Zion South Beach and any other church for that matter. Currently, I serve as a Temple Guard for our church. Also, in keeping with the works of the Lord, I make myself available for whatever I can do with for my Church. I thank God for a good wife that I met and married right here in Zion. She currently serves as the Chapel Director. Hopefully
my son will follow in our footsteps in giving of his time and talents to the Lord when his time comes. My favorite Scripture verse is II Timothy chapter 2: 15, which says: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” I am the Lord’s servant, may I continue to do his bidding until it is time for him to call me home.

The hill of Zion yields a thousand sacred sweets before we reach the heavenly fields, before we reach the heavenly fields, or walk the golden streets, or walk the golden streets.

And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before. 18
And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho. 19
And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.
20
And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? 21
Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
22
For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
23
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

The Hon. Philip E. Brave Davis, M.P. Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition Congregational Hymn…………………………………………………………..Jesus Saves We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Spread the tidings all around: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Bear the news to every land, climb the mountains, cross the waves; Onward! ’tis our Lord’s command; Jesus saves! Jesus saves! To the uttermost, Jesus Saves To the uttermost, Jesus Saves He will pick you up and turn you around Hallelujah, Jesus Saves! Waft it on the rolling tide: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Tell to sinners far and wide: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Sing, you islands of the sea; echo back, you ocean caves; Earth shall keep her jubilee: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Sing above the battle strife: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! By His death and endless life Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Shout it brightly through the gloom, when the heart for mercy craves; Sing in triumph o’er the tomb: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Give the winds a mighty voice: Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Closing Hymn…………………………………………......…….Guide me O Thou Great Jehovah Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more; feed me till I want no more. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow; let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through. Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield; be thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; death of death and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side. Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee; I will ever give to thee. Benediction....................................................……………………Bishop B. Wenith Davis, OBE Thank you for remaining in your places until the Benediction has ended.
