If anything, Hotel Seehof Nature Retreat feels like a piece of paradise. For a few years now, the builders in South Tyrol have been showcasing how one can combine innovation with regionalism in a big way. Wood, stone and glass are ingeniously deployed. Everything comes across as airy, light and exhilarating. What you have here is a typical mix between the South Tyrol down-to-earth way of life and the Italian lightness of being.

This rejuvenation spot lies directly on a private (!) natural lake. How much effort hosts Tamaris and Andreas Auer have put into making this the perfect setting for their guests to unwind in, definitely shows. There are ample secluded spots to retreat to and to let the spirit wander.

What really captures the imagination is that many items in this hotel are round, in the literal sense of the word: Mirrors, baskets, lamps and headboards. The establishment has been designed to tantalise our visual, taste and tactile senses, overturning what we perceive as the norm, guiding us into a world where nature and living space, both inside and outside, meld together. Indoors guests are offered regional gourmet cuisine by Borgo dei sapori with the restaurant set up like a culinary market; a library, a long-distance heating system, a panorama sauna and a spa with a variety of treatments. While for its part, the great outdoors, with all the area’s bike and hiking paths, is almost like something out of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings – with only the e-bikes by Cube a reminder of what day and age we are really in.
