WHERE TIMBER ACHITECTURE MEETS ART

ADLER LODGE RITTEN

Already in 1911 Sigmund Freud chugged up to the 1000 m high sun plateau above Bolzano in the oldest narrow-gauge railway in Italy’s South Tyrol.

Here a whole array of dreamy art nouveau villas bears testimony to the fact that the locals have been vacationing here on weekends for centuries. The Sanoner family, which has already created a unique retreat with the Adler Lodge Alpe in the Seiser Alm, has exceeded all expectations here once again relying on the expertise of a dedicated team: the design is by architects Demetz, the ingenious woodwork is by Hubert Gruber, the powerful eagle and dragon heads have been staged by artist Markus Delago, and leaving their own unique signature on the woodwork are master carpenters Michl Harder and Rier. The result is a fascinating integral work of art.

The exterior manifests itself as a neo-cubist form of black wood and light timber, with the roof gables reminiscent of old protective symbols. The quest for all things natural means the oak floorboards are only oiled once a year. High glass sliding doors, wide balconies and comfortable bathrooms, give the suites and 22 chalets a feel of openness and generosity. This is also true for the spa, where the trunks of the trees on the terrace reach for the skies. In a nutshell, the concept inspired by a trip to Namibia, revolves around fresh spring water, mountain fruit juices from the Kohl brand, salad and cheese buffets, homemade cakes, a forest spa boasting the Adler Resorts’ own cosmetics line, an infinity pool heated year-round and relaxation with a view of the mountain peaks.

Last but not least, after five years in the Seiser Alm, now cooking up a culinary storm at Ritten Lodge is Head Chef Hannes Pignater – delighting his guests with culinary creations like Leek Risotto with Speck Alto Adige and Calamarata!
