rollerblade [ `rol0%bled ] v.

20

lollipop [ `l3l6%p3p ] n. pain [ pen ] n.

Corrections

修正

1. They skated very fast and . . .

V. + very much

fast 的形容詞和副詞同形,所以沒有 fastly 的說法,要說 They skated very fast.

• They enjoyed the meal very much.

• Elaine ran so fast that I couldn’t catch her. adv.

• That roller coaster is too fast! • I seldom get up early on weekends. adv. • You’re early! It’s only eight thirty! adj.

v.

Lucy’s knee hurt very much.

3. She had a very bad cut. • Jeff got a cut on his right hand. • That rabbit is so cute.

2. hurt very much

4. buy (something) for (someone)

adj.

A buys (something) for B.

= A buys B (something).

• Cindy is/gets hurt.

(Someone) hurts +(身體部位).: v.

• Cindy hurts her back.

A gives (something) to B. = A gives B (something).,請注意介系詞的用法。 • My aunt bought a beautiful necklace for me.

(Someone’s)(身體部位)hurts.: v.

• Cindy’s back hurts.

= My aunt bought me a beautiful necklace.

• Ian gave some old magazines to his friends.

w very 和 very much 都可當副詞「很……;非常……」

very + adj./adv.

= Ian gave his friends some old magazines.

• The room is very big.

• Sean isn’t feeling well. He wants to go home.

• Nancy drinks very quickly.

• Dad came home late yesterday.

adj.

adv.

• Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll win by a mile.

Pigeon racing is one of Taiwan’s most popular sports. In fact, in the southern Taiwanese city of Dalin, pigeon racing is more popular than baseball or basketball. Every year, Dalin has a huge pigeon racing festival. Sometimes, more than 30,000 pigeons join the race. Training2 a pigeon to race is very difficult. Trainers spend months helping their pigeons prepare. First, when a pigeon is very young, trainers must check it closely. They must look at the pigeon and decide whether or not 3 it will be fast. Trainers check the pigeon’s feathers,* wings, tail, eyes and

bones. 4 Then, they have to train the pigeon to be smart, strong and loyal.5 That is why some of the best racing pigeons are worth* more than cars. Many pigeon races are more than 400 kilometers long. The pigeons have to fly as fast as they can for five or six hours. The racing is very hard. Some of the pigeons die during the race. Other pigeons fly away and never return. Nevertheless,* pigeon racing is still a huge sport. If a pigeon wins a big race, its owner6 could make hundreds of thousands of American dollars.

1. pigeon [ `p6d.6n ] n.

Nick is feeding the pigeons.

2. train [ tren ] v. 訓練(trainer 為「訓練者」,在文中指「鴿主;賽鴿人」) Joseph is training his son to play tennis.

3. whether or not [ `hw5\0 ] [ 7r ] [ n3t ] 是否……;能否……

I don’t know whether or not the show will be good.

bone [ bon ] n.

Bill broke a bone in his foot.

5. loyal [ `l764l ] adj.

My dog Toby is very loyal.

6. owner [ `on0 ] n.

The owner of that shop is very young.

feather [ `f5\0 ] n.

The Three Musketeers 《3D

Tue
