Peter Pan

Walking in the Rain

Corrections

修正

1. a really lovely day

4. suddenly vs. quickly

quickly adv.

• Sally was fine, and

then she suddenly started crying.

• I can’t tell if that’s a real Prada bag or not.

• Terry’s dog is really cute.

suddenly adv.

• The fire started very

suddenly.

• Matt really loves music, so I bought him concert

tickets for his birthday. • Sue walked really slowly.

2. make a decision make a decision「做決定」是固定用法,切記不可說 do a decision。英文有許多動詞與名詞的固定搭配用法, 例如 make a plan「訂定計畫」、make money「賺錢」、 do the dishes「洗碗」、do the laundry「洗衣服」等。 •

Mark proposed to his girlfriend, but she hasn’t made a decision yet.

I have to do a lot of laundry this weekend.

3. forget my troubles

• Finish your meal quickly.

We need to go! • Jason quickly got out of

his car and entered the store.

5. I have enjoyed walking in the rain . . I have enjoyed walking in the rain and having those feelings. 相同用法的動詞還有 finish/practice/ keep。 •

Fanny enjoys going to the beach.

I don’t know when Karen will finish talking on the phone.

Melody is going to practice singing tomorrow.

I hope it doesn’t keep raining all day.

into trouble「惹麻煩」、have trouble with (sth) 「做某事有困難」等。 •

Erin told me about her troubles.

Barry got into trouble because he lied to his mom.

New York’s One World Trade Center

Think About It! 1. (C) A by the way 順帶一提 By the way, good luck on the job interview tomorrow.

B around the time 大約在某時 Around the time Charles was 25 years old, he got rich.

C by the time 到了……時候 By the time the news ended, I was already asleep.

D from time to time 有時 Sylvia visits her parents from time to time.

{

One World Trade Center will replace the twin towers. The twin towers were destroyed on September 11th, 2001.

One World Trade

Center will replace the twin towers, which were destroyed . . .。

{

I want to hire Adam. Adam can speak Spanish.

→ I want to hire Adam, who can speak Spanish.

(A) A include [ 6n`klud ] v. 包括 The meal includes dessert and a drink.

B exclude [ 6k`sklud ] v. You shouldn’t exclude Leanne from your club.

C allow [ 4`la8 ] v. 允許 Your boss won’t allow you to take seven days off.

D cover [ `k9v0 ] v. Georgia always covers her mouth when she coughs.

4. 正確答案為:(D) A place [ ples ] n. I need to find a place for all these tools.

B area [ `5r64 ] n. This area of the forest has lots of monkeys.

C land [ l1nd ] n. Darren owns a lot of land.

D space [ spes ] n. 可用空間(文中指建物裡面的地坪) There’s not much empty space in this building.

• The second song on the album is called I Love You. • Today is Pat and Melissa’s fifth wedding anniversary. • On holidays, the price of that hotel is triple. • Let’s divide the popcorn into thirds, so everyone

In the Mediterranean Sea,* on the tiny island of Malta, there’s a temple called the Bone Chamber. It’s older than the Pyramids and Stonehenge.* It’s also the only ancient underground3 temple in the world. Something else is special about it. Inside, there are more than 6,000 human skeletons.4 We don’t know what this temple was for. Did people go there to pray? Was it only used to store dead bodies? For thousands of years, people have wondered about it. Many locals fear the temple. Some believe that if you go in, you’ll never come out again. Some even say that giants live there.

54

Now, scientists believe that they’ve learned the temple’s true purpose. They’ve discovered that in the temple, a human voice changes a great deal.5 This is because the walls are made of a strange kind of stone, and because the temple is underground. When a person speaks, his voice sounds deeper and louder. He almost sounds like a god. Scientists believe that ancient priests knew this, and that’s why they came here to pray. They wanted to sound more powerful.6 Slowly, modern science is learning m o r e a b o u t t h e B o n e C h a m b e r. However, we’ll never know all the secrets of this strange and scary place.

Angkor Wat: The Jewel of Asia

He liked music and learned a lot of instruments on his own. One day, his mother posted a video of his performance on YouTube. A music manager saw the video, and decided to sign Justin to a contract. At the beginning of his career, Justin spent lots of time visiting many important DJs around the US and going on their radio programs. By doing this, he gained lots of popularity.* His popularity and musical talent finally gave him the chance to release his album.
