Helping Others

Corrections

修正

1. have dinner

4. say vs. tell

另一個常見用法為 have + N. + for breakfast/lunch/dinner,意為「吃……

• We had dinner at seven o’clock last night.

• Tammy had fish for

lunch today.

• Ruby said, “Good morning” to Sabrina.

 tell 是「告訴」的意思,用法為: tell (sb) (sth)「把(某事)告訴(某人)」 • Please tell me your opinion.

由上述可知,文中應以 said goodbye to me 來表達才正確。

2. . . ., but she stood up fast. go up • Sean stood up and talked to his friend.

• Oil prices are going up everywhere.

3. You’re welcome.

5. help vs. save save [ sev ] v.

help [ h5lp ] v.

常以 save (one’s) life

• Last year, Chris

• Adrian helped me pick a

saved seven dogs.

new shirt.

It’s OK. • A: Thanks so much for the birthday present.

B: You’re welcome. • A: Sorry I broke your cup.

B: It’s OK. I’ll buy a new one.

Most people think that kites1 are toys.2 It’s true that if you go to a park, you might see lots of kids flying kites. If you enter3 a toy store, you’ll see kites there, too. But kites aren’t just for kids. They’re also used to make art. People have done this for thousands of years. Ancient* China is a good example. People put lanterns4 on their kites, and then flew the kites. This made the sky beautiful at night. Ancient Chinese people also used kites to make music. Before they flew the kite, they put pieces of bamboo* on it. The wind5 passed through* the bamboo and made a nice sound.6 These days, kites are still art. Some of the world’s best kite makers are from Taiwan.

You’ve probably played with Lego bricks before. Think of what they look like. They’re just small, rectangular* pieces of plastic.* Most have eight studs on the top, and eight holes in the bottom.1 They’re simple,2 right? Wrong! Making Legos is a science. Engineers design 3 every new kind of brick. They pick the brick’s size, shape,4 and color. They must also make sure that the bricks are safe for kids. After that, children play with the new bricks. If the kids like the bricks, the company might sell them to the world. If the kids think they’re just so-so, then the company has more work to do. But that’s just the beginning.5 When the Legos are ready, offices around the world have to sell them. Lego makes about 36 billion* bricks every year, and sells seven toy sets every second. Since 1934, Lego has made more than 400 billion bricks! These days, there are also Lego movies, TV shows, and computer games. Lego is growing all the time, but people still love its bricks the most. You can use them to build almost anything. With six basic6 Lego bricks, you can make more than 915 billion combinations!*
