LISTENING & SPEAKING

句子當中包含 wh- 疑問詞引導的名詞子句(wh- 疑問詞 + S. + V.)稱為「間接問句」,wh- 疑問詞包括 who/what/how/

why/when/where 等。

Who is Sue?「

Tell me who Sue is.「告訴我蘇是誰。」 

{ What is the singer’s name?

I wonder.

Do you know?(主要子句) → Do

you know what the singer’s name is?

{ When can I meet her?

Please tell me.(主要子句)

→ I

{ Why do cats eat mice?

you know why cats eat mice?

I have no idea when Kathy came back.(直接把原句 When did Kathy come back? 改寫成 when Kathy came back)  我不知道凱西何時回來的。 但若遇到其他助動詞如 should/can/could 時,則要寫成:主要子句 + wh- 疑問詞 + S. + should/can/could + V.

• My mother told me what I could make for dinner.

• I wonder when we can buy the tickets.

• I don’t know why I should lend you money.

1 . . . things that can make me feel

4 more confidence

sad.

In my life, there are many things.

{ Many things can make me feel sad.

there are many things that can make me feel sad.

• All you need now is more confidence. • Calvin has less confidence than his brother.

5 appreciate 的用法

Is there any plan?

A thanks B. 、A is grateful to B. 。

→ Is there any plan that you have for today?

• Connie appreciates me because I’m always

{ Do you have any plan for today?

patient.

2 getting bad grades on tests 考試成績」要說 get ... on tests,介 系詞固定使用 on,如 get a good/bad grade on a history test「歷史考試得到好/壞成績」、get a 78 on a math test「數學考試得了七十八分」。 • Sandra got very good grades on her final tests. • Derek got a 95 on his English test.

• Sherry thanked Peter for the gifts. • Tony was grateful to Wendy for her advice.

3 When something bad destroys . . . • Anything loud hurts Carl’s ears.

• There is nothing interesting in this article.

Once in a while, you probably have to deal with computers. If you get angry, does the computer care? Will it apologize1 to you? Of course not. You can yell2 at the computer, but it will always ignore you. In the future, this is going to change, too. Scientists are making robots that can judge 3 human emotions. The robot will look at your face and listen to your voice. If you raise4 your voice, it will know you’re probably angry. If you smile, it will know you’re happy. The robot will adjust* and meet your needs. Science 5 is improving and making progress6 every day. Right now, a robot can clean your floor. On maps, dots1 represent* places. On a map of Taiwan, one dot represents Taipei. Another represents Taitung. Recently,2 an American man made another kind of map. His map also has dots, but the dots don’t represent places. They represent people! His map has one dot for every American. The dots show where people live. In total, there are 341,817,095 dots. From a distance, the dots look like black clouds.3 When you zoom in, the dots spread out and become individual* dots. The east4 of the new map has huge, black clouds, because the population5 there is bigger. In the west,6 there are fewer dots because fewer people live there. This map could change the world. S.H.E: Love and Friendship During the last three years, the girls of S.H.E have had many changes in their lives. Both Selina and Ella got married. Hebe released two very successful solo albums.* The biggest change for them came in 2010, when Selina was burned in a terrible accident in Shanghai. However, although their lives have changed, their feelings are the same. Selina, Hebe and Ella still care about each other very much. Once they even burst out crying when they thought of the idea that everyone gets old and dies. This made them sad because they knew that they couldn’t be together forever. The girls of S.H.E stay strong because of love. Even Selina’s accident couldn’t stop them from doing their favorite things. In 2012, they released a new album, titled* Blossomy.* Later this year, they’re going to hold concerts in Taipei. They will continue to show us the power of love and friendship through their singing.
