The actor and his wife have a very high-profile relationship.

I don’t want the party to be big. It should be low-key.

Knock it off! I hate when you make fun of me.

Knock it off! 也可以說 Cut it out! 或 Stop it!。 You’re making so much noise. Cut it out!

Barney was joking, but he took his joke too far.

take (sth) too far 意為「做某事做得太過火」,另外 go too far 也能表達相似語意。 It’s OK to criticize other people, but you went too far. 2

1 Although his behavior was

3 care about vs. care for

care for 和 care about 的用法整理如下: 人 照顧(某人) ,相當於 take care of 。 (sb) care for +

strange, he was still important.

Although his behavior was strange, he was still important. 或 His behavior was strange, but he was still important. • Although this market is a little crowded, it’s still pretty nice. = This market is a little crowded, but it’s still

pretty nice. • Although I will be late, I’ll definitely come to

your birthday party. = I will be late, but I’ll definitely come to your birthday party.

{

care about +

{

• Anthony doesn’t care about politics. • Carl didn’t care for his jacket, so now it doesn’t

look very good.

複習 many 與 much 的用法:

{

4 . . . a light bulb that could shine for over 1,500 hours.

many: 修飾可數名詞,如 many books, many shirts, many umbrellas 等。

• The stars are shining so brightly.

much: 修飾不可數名詞,如 much water, much energy, much rain 等。

• It’s really loud outside, so please don’t open

• The forest has many old trees. • The tank doesn’t have much hot water.

q What Kind of Music Do You Like?

the window.

I wish you a happy birthday!

• I hope we can rent a good DVD. (可能實現的願望) • I wish I could fly like a bird.

• That Kyle was late again is not surprising. = It is not surprising that Kyle was late again.

• That Janet was lying was obvious. = It was obvious that Janet was lying.

• That Charles is angry is understandable. = It is understandable that Charles is angry.

• Jeremy thinks (that) the painting is beautiful.

• Larry loves (that) you bought him a present.

• The problem is (that) the stores are closed.

• The truth is (that) Kenny hates his job.

• I am unhappy about the fact that Taiwan has many stray dogs.

Skip’s World

二、if/whether . . . (or not) 引導的名詞子句 if/whether . . .

q whether 引導的名詞子句當主詞 • Whether Terry comes to the party (or not) doesn’t matter to me.

• Whether it rains (or not) isn’t important.

w if/whether 引導的名詞子句當受詞 • I asked Henry if/whether he has free time this week (or not).

• I don’t care if/whether you believe me (or not).

e if/whether 引導的名詞子句當補語 • The question is if/whether you want to go to this school (or not).

• The key is if/whether Anna can lend us her car (or not).

Try it!

Sullivan and Mike are the world’s scariest monsters. Before they became experts* on fear,1 however, they had to go to school. Years ago, they were classmates at Monsters University. They both took courses2 that taught them how to scare kids. Back then, they weren’t friends yet. Sullivan thought that his skill level3 was higher than Mike’s. Mike wanted to prove4 that he was scary, too. Monsters University is the prequel* to Monsters, Inc. It will show you a whole new school experience.

However, he enjoys other kinds of music, like pop music2 and jazz.3 He likes musicians from Taiwan and other countries as well. Yuxiang says that music students shouldn’t just copy music from famous composers.* They can also play their own style of music. This can give them more pleasure,4 and help them let their feelings out. He says that when people play music, expressing emotion is more important than playing well. Yuxiang has a lot of plans for the future. If he has the opportunity,5 he would love to go abroad and study music in graduate school.* Second, he wants to write music for foreign6 movies.

Twelve Years of Great Music

I remember that when I first listened to Sodagreen’s songs, I was caught by Greeny’s unique voice at once. His voice is like a painting with light and heavy colors in it. Sometimes it can be light and simple, as in Little Love Song. Sometimes it’s thick and touching, as in Childhood. Listening to him gives me goose bumps!* Their live shows are fun to watch. Besides singing their beautiful songs, they often share their life stories with fans. The members are all best friends. Sometimes they joke around, and sometimes they shed* tears for each other. Perhaps they’re so popular because they’re passionate,* sincere, and natural. Most important of all, they cherish every chance to stand on the stage and share their lives with fans. Sodagreen formed in 2001. For the last 12 years, they have continued to write great songs. Fans believe that Sodagreen will continue to make them happy, year after year.
