Although she’s tired every day, she smiles all the time. 或 She’s tired every day, but she smiles all the time.

• Max and I got married last year.

• The principal talked to Terry and me.

2 from day to night 表示「從早到晚」,要說 from day to night, from A to B 是固定用法,可修飾時間或地點。 She works day and night.。 • Molly stayed with her friend from day to night. • It rained day and night for a week.

• Although penguins have wings, they can’t fly. = Penguins have wings, but they can’t fly. • Marianne loves kids, but she doesn’t want to

be an elementary school teacher. = Although Marianne loves kids, she doesn’t want to be an elementary school teacher.

4 worry about 要表示「為(某人事物)擔心、憂慮」的固定用法為 worry about + N.,英文中並無 worry of 的說法。 • My grandma worries about her health. • I’m worried about Roberta. She seems so

unhappy.

5 I learn a lot from my mom.

● Love Is Everywhere

V. + very/so/too much。 • Chris has done a lot/very much to help me. • Johnny didn’t eat much today. • Do you come to this coffee shop much?

In English, we say “prevention is better than cure.” This means that it’s better to prevent a problem. It’s not wise1 to wait until you see a problem and then fix it. Here’s one example. Perhaps you want to get a puppy. 2 Think ahead and ask yourself questions. Which kind of dog suits your home? What medicine3 will your puppy need? Do you have enough free time? Asking these questions in advance will prevent future problems. Preparing requires* more effort, but you should always do it. It tends to lead to success.

Million Dollar

Collections

When Jim Taylor was young, his father had a simple car called a Model A Ford. Taylor learned to drive that car behind his father’s barn. 2 Later, Taylor’s dream was to collect cars, but he didn’t have any money. Today, Taylor is a successful businessman. He owns a company that sells boat parts,3 and he’s making his dream come true. On Discovery Channel’s new series4 Million Dollar Collections, you can see Taylor’s collection. He has more than 100 cars. He keeps them in a garage5 that is the size of a football field.6 When you walk through the garage, you feel like you’re in a car museum. Many of Taylor’s cars are important to him and his family. After Taylor started his collection, he bought his father’s Model A Ford. Taylor also has a 98-year-old Model T Pickup. He has that one because his grandfather once drove the same kind of car. Taylor has many other cars that teach people about history. He says that when he sits in those old cars, he feels like he’s traveling to the past. Sometimes people tell Taylor that he should sell some of his cars. He says that he can’t do it. Why? Each car tells a story.

Culture Corner

Let’s Go to the Movies
