he Greensboro Builders Association invites you to join us in our support of A Simple Gesture Greensboro during this year’s Parade of Homes…by bringing canned foods when you tour the Parade homes. Last year, Greensboro and Guilford County were designated as one of the hungriest places in the country. Food insecurity, defined as the condition of not having regular access to enough nutritious food for a healthy life, affects 18.3% of people in North Carolina and 19.2% of people in Guilford County. Almost 30% of children in Guilford County are considered to be food insecure… that’s more than 47,000 children possibly needing food assistance. A Simple Gesture is a food collection program that supports the food banks and food pantries in Greensboro and Guilford County…especially those that are assisting the children in our community. Food items most needed

Volunteers will come to your home every other month, on the date specified on the tag on your green bag collect your bag of food - and leave another reusable grocery bag for you to use during the next two months. The collected food is delivered that same day to several food banks for distribution to school pantries. Businesses can also sign up…providing employees with grocery bags to fill and bring back to the office on designated collection days every other month…as well as provide financial donations to support the growth of this initiative. It’s that simple! Pick up an enrollment card at any Parade home or sign up online at www.asimplegesturegso.org. Your donations will help support area food pantries that are working to address hunger needs in our community, including BackPack Beginnings, Greensboro Urban Ministry, Jewish Family Services, and Out of the Garden Project. Working together throughout our community, we can begin to make a difference… providing much needed food support for hungry families and children in Greensboro and Guilford County.

Giving Back to the Community

reensboro Builders Association members are active, concerned citizens who live and work in Guilford and surrounding counties. The Greensboro Builders Association is involved in numerous community service projects on an ongoing basis, giving of both financial resources and in-kind contributions. GBA members are committed to ensuring Greensboro and Guilford County remain a great place to live, work and raise a family. Providing affordable housing is an ongoing area of emphasis for the Greensboro Builders Association. We have worked with various organizations such as the City of Greensboro, Home Inc., Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro and Community Housing Solutions to assist with new construction and renovations to existing homes. Raising Roofsâ&#x20AC;ŚBuilders for Habitat In 2003, we entered into a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to build 12 homes in one week...called Raising Roofsâ&#x20AC;ŚBuilders for Habitat. This initiative continues to be tremendously successful due to the generous contribution of Association members. To date through this every other year build, GBA members have constructed 55 Habitat homes in the past 12 years. Planning is underway for our next build in 2017. ReBuilding Hope In 2011, GBA Remodelers Council members formed a partnership with Community Housing Solutions to conduct home repairs and renovations called ReBuilding Hope. To date, GBA members have completed more than 10 home renovations. In 2014, we completed an entire house renovation on a 1920â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s home in the historic Glenwood neighborhood. We will be constructing a new home this fall in the Ole Asheboro neighborhood.
