President’s Message
Tim Marion 2024 GBA President
Hope everyone is having a great summer. As we approach September, which is national Associate Member Appreciation Month, I want to personally encourage you to join in the celebration!
Our company is both an associate member and a builder member, as we maintain an active general contractor’s license. We enjoy doing business with a variety of members…whether it’s for business or personal needs…new construction or renovations.
From my involvement over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to build tremendous business relationships with other associate and builder/remodeler members, as well as develop valuable friendships. Even though we may be competitors at times…we come together and work side by side for our association and industry.
Some associate members question the value of their membership saying they didn’t get any “builder” business. I tell them they are overlooking the greater value of membership…as builder business is only one component of our association. Building name recognition and developing relationships with other associate members can lead to valuable referrals for your business to other members, builders, remodelers, and consumers. Those referrals are much more powerful than a cold call or handshake introduction at an event.
As an association…we value doing business with members. We all prefer to do business with people we know and can trust. Utilizing your GBA membership to build those relationships is important…as well as just being listed in our membership directory. Members and consumers utilize our online directory as a starting point when looking for a particular product, service, or trade contractor.
During September, we are planning a social media campaign to spotlight the value of our associate members…find additional details on the next page. I encourage you to share information about your company and the benefits of membership…or provide a testimonial/ referral for another member that is a trusted industry partner.
As we move into the fall…there are numerous opportunities for education, marketing and networking. We just completed our annual TOUR of Remodeled Homes…and our Fall Parade of Homes will be held the first two weekends in October.
First Wednesdays continue to grow…these are great informal networking events providing the opportunity to meet other members as well as bring prospective members to introduce them to the Builders Association. Our councils have several upcoming education programs planned which are open to all members. If you are looking for marketing and networking opportunities…take advantage of the fall golf and skeet tournaments, as well as our annual Associates Expo. All sell out quickly…do don’t delay submitting your registration.
Our Leadership Development team is currently focused on identifying council and committee leadership for the coming year, along with nominations for our Board of Directors. If you are looking for ways to be more involved…and or have an interest in leadership opportunities… reach out to Brian Disney, our incoming president or Cheryl Collins, our Executive Officer.
It’s been a busy year thus far…and I look forward to the same over the next several months. Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can help you make connections within our Association. Thanks again for your membership!
Celebrating Our Associate Members
Join us in celebrating and recognizing our Associate Members throughout the month of September during Associate Appreciation Month. Associate members play an essential role in our organization…they are our suppliers… trade contractors…and service providers. Associate members account for 68% of our membership and we couldn’t run our businesses, build or renovate homes and buildings without them!
Thank You…
To our Associate Members…your hard work, dedication, and expertise are what make our association strong and successful…providing trusted and valuable support to both builder and other associate members.
During September, we want to share our appreciation and celebrate the impact you have on our association and industry…and we encourage your participation.
Associate Member Celebration
Plan to join us as we kick off the celebration with our First Wednesday Member Connections on Wednesday, September 4 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm at The Speakeasy Tavern. Sponsored by Vanir Installed Sales, complimentary beverage coupons will be provided for all Associate members. Bring your business card for admission and drawings for special prizes. There is no charge to attend…but we do ask that you RSVP by September 3.
Associate Member Spotlight
Throughout the month of September…our goal is to promote the diversity and contributions made by our Associate members to our Association, industry and community. Utilizing our social media platforms…we are looking to profile members and their testimonials.
Share your story with us…why you are a member…areas of interest…member involvement…value of doing business with members and working with trusted professionals.
To participate, simply share 2-3 sentence testimonial along with a photo… or a video that we can share. We can also record a quick video with you at First Wednesday. Email your submissions to Cheryl Collins at ccollins@ greensborobuilders.org.
Make sure you are following us on Facebook – GBA Members & Greensboro Builders Association, as well as on Instagram – Greensboro Builders.
We look forward to sharing your stories with our community. Together, let’s make this year’s Associate Member Appreciation month a memorable celebration of the people who are essential in driving our industry and association forward!
Associates Expo
Save the Date: Associates Expo will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 5-7 pm at Florida Tile. This is an opportunity for associate members to exhibit and share products and services with our builder and remodeler members. This is not a general membership meeting…it is only open to builders, remodelers and exhibiting associate members.
Associate Members
MI-BOX has been a proud member of GBA for the past 4 years. From the beginning I participated in many activities, and that involvement helped me build relationships and learn from industry veterans! I’ve had the pleasure of doing business with many GBA members for both my business and personal needs. I truly enjoy the comradery amongst members and greatly appreciate the support. I have enjoyed being an Associate member of GBA for many reasons. This is my industry and I want to serve and network with all my business partners. I have met so many great people and their businesses and in fact, learned about businesses I didn't know existed, through the Builders Association. I love making a call and telling a GBA business partner that I have some business for you. It is a great feeling!
I feel like consistently attending events and meetings has helped grow my business contacts substantially within GBA. People like to do business with people they know and trust. It may not be immediate…but it’s great when those referrals come from people I’ve met within the Builders Association. Yes, you have to make the time…but I promise it’s worth the investment.

Building for the Future
Our Building for the Future Casino Night was held on Friday, June 14 at Starmount Forest Country Club with all proceeds supporting our Construction Careers Scholarship Endowment.
Special thanks to the following companies for their support of our workforce development initiatives…enabling us to grow our endowment and provide scholarships for skilled trades training.
This year’s event raised more than $9,000 for our Scholarship Endowment…and was so much fun! Make sure to check out the photos on page 9 as well as on our GBA Members Facebook page.
Again…thank you to everyone who sponsored, provided prizes and attended this year’s event…we look forward to doing it again next year!
