Do Your Research Make sure the remodeler holds an active NC General Contractor license...which is required for any renovation exceeding $30,000 in value. Ask the contractor for their license number. You can search the status of their license on the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors website at www.nclbgc.org. Begin your search for a licensed general contractor on the Greensboro Builders Association website at www.GreensboroBuilders.org. If you are looking for a contractor who specializes in a specific type of remodeling, such as accessibility and agingin-place, you can find a list of Certified Aging-inPlace Specialist (CAPS) on the GBA website under Councils. Ask family, friends recommendations.
and
coworkers
for
Make sure the contractor has a permanent business location and a good reputation with suppliers and financial institutions. Make sure the contractor carries sufficient workers compensation and general liability insurance. If not, you may be liable for any construction-related accidents on your premises. Ask for a copy of insurance certificates. Look at the prospective remodeler's company website and social media accounts to see photos of their work. Ask the contractor to provide you with names of previous customers. Ask to see the contractor's work, both completed and in progress. Check for quality of workmanship and materials. What is their working knowledge of the many types and ages of homes in the area, and what sort of issues could arise? Make sure the contractor arranges for the building permit (the person who obtains the permit is the contractor of record and therefore liable for the work)
Verify that your contractor is a NC Lead-Safe Certified Renovator if you are planning work in a pre-1978 home that will disturb more than six square feet of painted surfaces inside the home or 20 square feet on the exterior of the home.
Contracts are Critical Make sure the contractor provides you with a complete and clearly written contract. The contract will benefit both of you. Be cautious of unusually low-priced bids. If the contractor is unable to pay for the materials and labor as the project proceeds, this may indicate a potential problem. Keep in mind that less expensive does not necessarily mean better!
Trust Your Instincts Do you feel you can easily communicate with the contractor? Remember you will be in close contact with them throughout the construction process. Make sure you are compatible with the contractor you select.
Beginning your project with mutual expectations will go a long way towards a smooth remodel. You'll spend a lot of time with your remodeler so it's important to have a good rapport and trust in him or her. Remember when you hire a remodeler, you are buying a service rather than a product. The quality of the service the remodeler provides will determine the quality of the finished product and your satisfaction. Trust your home renovation with a professional, licensed general contractor. For additional information, utilize the resources available from the Greensboro Builders Association. Begin by taking advantage of the annual Tour of Remodeled Homes to meet with professional contractors to discuss your future home renovation needs.

Make Your House a Home for a Lifetime
L
ooking to renovate your home to provide greater accessibility, adaptability along with aging-in-place features? Here are some of the more common universal design features that are incorporated into new construction and aging-in-place renovations: No-step entry. Build a step-less entry that will increase access and convenience without comprising aesthetics. One-story living. Many new homes are incorporating a bedroom and full bath on the main level which is barrier-free. Wide doorways. Doorways that are 32-36 inches wide let wheelchairs pass through. They also make it easy to move big things in and out of the house. Wide hallways. Hallways should be 36-42 inches wide. That way, everyone and everything moves more easily from room to room. Open and accessible floor space. Everyone feels less cramped. And people in wheelchairs have more space to turn and increase mobility. Floors and bathtubs with non-slip surfaces help everyone stay on their feet. They're not just for people who are frail. The same goes for handrails on steps and grab bars in bathrooms...as well as comfort height toilets.
Central Carolina Concrete, L.L.C.
Thresholds that are flush with the floor make it easy for a wheelchair to get through a doorway. They also keep others from tripping.
R. L. Buchanan, President
Good lighting helps people with poor vision. And it helps everyone else see better, too.
336-315-0777 office 336-215-2900 cell 336-215-0073 fax
Lever door handles and rocker light switches are great for people with poor hand strength. But others like them too. Try using these devices when your arms are full of packages. You'll never go back to knobs or standard switches. Kitchens designed with multi-level counters; accessible storage and easy access appliances.

Project Description "Update this spacious 1960's brick home by modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms Before without having to add extra square footage". This vision became reality by taking down the wall between the kitchen and den while completely remodeling the kitchen. The original master bathroom was dramatically overhauled by using adjoining closet space to make it more spacious and luxurious. Two additional outdated bathrooms were completely remodeled to make them brighter and more inviting. The original hardwood floors were refinished, an efficient energy-saving tankless hot water heater was installed, new HVAC and new paint made this remodel complete.

After living in their home for nearly thirty years, the owners were ready Before to move the kitchen into the 21st century. More functional cabinetry and space planning was an important concern in this area that is so intimately connected to the rest of the house — through five doorways taking precedence over usable space. Original site-built “problem-solving” storage was replaced with a designed, integrated solution yielding greater storage space than before. Booe Building & Remodeling
Relocating to Greensboro...the new homeowners wanted a complete remodel of the kitchen to accommodate their large family. An open floor plan was desired which required the entire back of the house to be opened up. The kitchen was gutted and relocated to the former dining room. New appliances were installed, new light fixtures, new hardwood floors and paint. All the cabinets were designed and custom made for this house. An accommodating space for this big family was created along with the oversized island in the new kitchen. The overhaul of this space brought out the best in what was a kitchen stuck in the past.

Project Description

As empty nesters, the homeowners requested a fresh update to their Before kitchen that would align to their needs and personal aesthetic without doing a complete renovation. They also wanted each room on the first floor to be designed and decorated, incorporating cherished existing furnishings along with new furnishings and decor. Timeless design was the goal for the kitchen remodel as well as the decoration throughout the first floor. With strategic design and high quality selections, the kitchen was updated with minimal invasive construction. By painting the existing cabinets, beefing up the crown molding and redesigning the island; it gave the homeowners a cost-saving alternative to buying all new cabinetry. Gorgeous quartz, beautiful marble backslash tile, hand-painted cabinets, custom-made window treatments, designer furnishings and special finishing touches enliven the beauty and grace of the whole house.
