GREENSBORO BUILDERS ASSOCIATION - BUILDER UPDATE
I
sn’t it great to finally see sunshine and warmer weather…which means our spring housing market is in full swing! We are excited about our Spring Parade of Homes, showcasing more than 50 newly constructed homes. Special thanks to our participating builders, trade contractors, suppliers and sponsors who make this event such a success each year. Make sure you download our NEW mobile app – Greensboro Parade of Homes – to plan your tour.
Our Association’s calendar is full of activities and ways to get involved throughout the year. Attending membership meetings and events are a great way to connect with other members to build new business relationships. Everyone prefers doing business with someone they know. If you don’t regularly attend events, we encourage you to at least attend one function per quarter and hopefully more. As we continue to focus on our key initiatives – Construction Careers – Membership - Community Service - Young Professionals – each of these has a planning team that would welcome your participation. You can find additional information in this issue and on our website for ways to get involved…or simply call the GBA office for additional information. We’re excited to be supporting Habitat Greensboro’s Women Build this year as they are building a Habitat home funded and constructed by women! We’re forming a GBA Women’s Team and encourage your participation. We are looking to schedule a few workdays during the construction build which kicks off in May and concludes in September, working alongside Habitat’s construction staff and the homeowners. No experience is required. Everyone (male & female) can support our efforts by making a financial contribution to our GBA Team. We have a fund raising page set up with a link on our website and Facebook page. Advocacy is a major part of what we do on the local, as well as state and national level. In May we will be co-hosting the 4th Annual Stop Work Order Party – a regulatory appreciation event – with TREBIC and PTAA. This is a great chance to spend some time (not on the jobsite) with local inspectors and plan review staff in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. The event this year will be held at the new baseball stadium in High Point. On May 21-22 we will be traveling to Raleigh to join others from across the state for the NCHBA Legislative Day visiting with members of the Guilford County delegation to share industry issues and concerns. In June we will be traveling to Washington, DC to meet with our federal elected officials as part of NAHB’s Legislative Conference. All members are encouraged to participate in these trips. I look forward to seeing you this spring at one of our many upcoming events. As we move into the summer months, I hope everyone can schedule some “down” time to relax with family and friends!

Take advantage of New Homes Month to share information on your company, along with photos of your homes and communities. Share industry resource articles and posts from various sites, including those found on the Greensboro Builders Association, NCHBA & NAHB Facebook pages. Join us in promoting the value of new homes throughout the month! Hashtag posts with #GreensboroBuilders #NewHomes During the Parade of Homes, share photos with the hashtag #GSOParadeofHomes
May…National Home Remodeling Month It’s the perfect opportunity to bring added attention to the benefits of hiring a professional remodeler for home renovations and improvements during National Home Remodeling Month. Share your remodeling photos using the hashtag #GreensboroRemodelers #ProfessionalRemodeling. According to NAHB, the median age of the American home is 38 years old. Add to that the growing popularity of television programs featuring dramatic home renovations, it helps explain why Americans are spending an estimated $148 billion on home remodeling each year. Remodeling offers numerous benefits to home owners who want to change their living environment without uprooting their family and moving. Home improvements can add more space for a growing family or aging parent, improve energy efficiency and increase the resale value of your home. As a remodeler, we encourage you to consider participating in our 22nd annual Tour of Remodeled Homes – Saturday & Sunday, August 10-11. It’s a great way for both remodelers and associate members to showcase professional renovations, products and services.
